Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
The woman shook her head. "They don't need us. They've got their own chef cooking in the villa." Natalie smiled. "Makes sense. Leaders never eat the same food as the rest of us." Trying to take them out through food was a dead end. Magnus was extremely cautious. He left no openings for anyone. He was even more paranoid than Owen. Only a handful of trusted people could get anywhere near him. With such a sharp guy by Kelvin's side, it was difficult for her to make a move. The woman chatted with Natalie for a moment before hurrying off to the next building with her food cart. Natalie said goodbye to Cassian, grabbed her meal and water, and headed upstairs. Back in her room, she opened the food container with curiosity. Yep, it was beef pasta. There was a decent amount of meat, but it didn't quite smell like beef. She sniffed it. A faint sour scent lingered, though the seasoning mostly covered it. The pasta underneath wasn't the usual mix she ate. It looked like they'd just tossed whatever they had together and cooked it. Some ingredients were probably old or moldy. No way she was eating outsiders' food. She inspected it, dumped it into a plastic bag, and stashed it in her storage space. The water, however, wasn't wasted. She used it to mop the floor. After cleaning, Natalie made a simple pasta for herself and poured Lucky's food. Just as she was about to dig in, someone knocked on the door. It was Cassian. Standing there with that cool, calm aura, he held two small plates. He asked, "Did you eat the food they brought?" Natalie hesitated, then decided to be honest. "Not yet. Why?" He shoved the plates into her hands. "Don't eat that. Eat this. You and ... " He glanced down at Lucky, who was pawing his leg and wagging her tail. " ... Lucky. One plate each." Lucky let out an excited little sound. Natalie looked at the plates. It was steaming spaghetti with tomato meat sauce. "You made this?" Cassian nodded. "Yeah." She remembered his setup yesterday—fridge, generator, plenty of supplies. Cooking something like that made sense. Still, she didn't expect a big-shot CEO to cook. And it looked amazing. She hesitated. She didn't usually eat food from others, so she politely said, "Thanks, but you just keep it. I've got my own—" Before she could finish, Cassian was already heading downstairs. "I made too much by accident. Just eat it. It's not poisoned." With him gone, Natalie had no choice but to set the plates on the table. After she went to lock the door and turned around, Lucky had already jumped on her chair, wolfing down one of the spaghetti plates. Natalie jumped back in shock and hurried to snatch her dog away. "You silly dog! Who said you could eat that?"By the time she managed to pull Lucky off, half the spaghetti was already gone. She watched the dog nervously. Even though she and Cassian weren't at odds, it was Lucky's first time tasting someone else's food. After a while, Lucky was still bouncing around, staring longingly at the plate and whining for more. Natalie finally relaxed a little. She sat down to eat her pasta. But after all that chaos, it had turned into a soggy mess that fell apart as soon as she tried to pick it up. Sighing, she glanced at the untouched spaghetti on the table. Honestly, it looked amazing and smelled even better. She looked at the lively Lucky again. Then, she couldn't resist grabbing a strand and popping it into her mouth. Her eyes widened instantly.Cassian made this? It was way better than anything she'd ever had at a fancy restaurant. The tomato sauce was rich and flavorful, coating every spaghetti perfectly. She grabbed another bite without hesitation. It was already surprising that a big-shot CEO could cook, but his cooking skills were so good! Natalie loved trying new foods and had eaten at a ton of places, so her cooking was pretty solid. But Cassian's skills were on another level. She imagined his ridiculously handsome face. Did he even have a flaw? He was good-looking, talented, humble, and now ... an amazing chef. Plus, he'd been patient with Lucky the whole time, even after the dog bugged him nonstop.Lost in thought, she didn't notice she'd eaten the whole plate. "Wait, did I just finish all of it?" She'd only meant to take a bite! Lucky was fuming, hopping around on the floor. Natalie hadn't let Lucky eat, yet she'd polished off everything herself. "Ow, ow, ow!" Seeing Lucky so upset, she cleared her throat awkwardly and quickly made something up. "I was just checking for poison for you. See? Totally safe. You can eat now."
