Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 168 Welcome Here

Natalie didn't feel like tidying anything up herself, so she figured she'd just use that stuff as payment. Since that guy seemed friendly, she decided to test her luck with more questions. "So, what's your leader's name?" The guy at the registration desk answered, "Magnus Bowen is the leader, and the second-in-command is Kelvin Hansen." Natalie thought it over. Kelvin was Cyril's elder brother, and he was the one she'd been after the whole time. "But ... " That guy leaned closer with a secretive look. "People say the real power behind this place is the Holland Group." Her eyes widened. "The Holland Group?" He nodded. "Yep. Why else do you think the line is so long? Everyone heard the Holland Group was backing this base and rushed over." He glanced at Natalie in confusion. "Wait, you're not here for the Holland Group?" Natalie shook her head. "Nope. I just want a safe spot to settle down. Your base seemed popular, so I came." Still, she hadn't expected Cassian to be the one pulling strings here. Her gaze went to the big sign over the gate. No wonder it was called Cassiland Base. Its name was derived from Cassian's full name. She frowned a little. Did that mean Kelvin was working under Cassian's protection? That complicated things. She'd once spread rumors about him right to his face. And now, she sneaked into his base, planning to kill his man. The grudge between them was only getting worse. But with Cyril already gone, she couldn't back down. Kelvin had to die.Luckily, Cassian stayed far away in his hillside villa. He wouldn't find out. She'd signed up with a fake name anyway. She'd just wait for the right chance, strike quietly, and disappear. No one would ever know. After explaining everything, that guy introduced himself. "My name is Rocky Baker. If you ever need something, just come to me. I'll look out for you!" He'd seen the strong dog with her and figured she had a future here, so he wanted to stay on her good side. Rocky, huh? Natalie glanced at his bulky muscles. The name truly fit him, and it was easy to remember. She smiled. "Alright, Rocky."Rocky waved a coworker over to take over registration. Then, he rolled out a bike. "Miss, I'll take you there myself. Follow me." He hopped on and led the way. Natalie started her van and drove right behind him. As they entered, she kept her eyes on how the base was set up. The villa district used to be called Grace Villas, full of little three-story houses, each about 1,000 square feet. Right past the main gate, it was the outermost row of townhouses. Those were the dorms for the ordinary folks. One house could hold a crazy number of people. Plenty of residents were outside now, hanging out in small groups. The nice villas compared with the ragged survivors made a striking picture. The original owners probably never imagined their homes would one day be filled with starving people. Because she was following Rocky, everyone stared at her car curiously. Good thing she'd already put up a privacy film. She could see out, but no one could see in. Lucky stood up on the seat, watching the crowd carefully. Before long, a heavy iron gate came into view, guarded by two men with long knives. The iron gate didn't match the villas at all. It was clearly built later. Rocky whispered something to the guards, and one walked over to her van. Natalie rolled down the window. He saw her and Lucky, then grinned widely. "Welcome, our honored new member!"He signaled to open the gate, and the other guard handed Rocky a key. Rocky took the key and guided her deeper inside. The houses looked the same, but it was way quieter here. Almost no one was around. Soon, Rocky stopped in front of one villa and unlocked it. "Miss, this is your place." Natalie stepped out with Lucky and followed him in. The entry led straight to the living room on the first floor. Rocky explained, "This place has three floors, each with a bedroom. Nobody has moved in yet, so you can pick whichever floor you like." Natalie asked, "So one floor per person?" He replied, "One floor per family."She nodded. She'd never expected to be given a whole villa to herself. Having a floor of her own was already better than being crammed into a dorm with strangers. Looking around, she felt satisfied. She wasn't planning to stay long anyway. Once she killed Kelvin, she'd be gone.
