Harvest Moon: Bound to My Four Stepbrothers

Chapter 649 Hidden Dungeon

Joseph’s p.o.v. What would have happened if Jocelyn hadn’t remembered the maps or if she had never taken a look at both of them at the same time? Griffin and I don’t want to think about what could have happened if we had been traveling faster or if their enemies had attack later or taken more time to burn the entire territory down. Erylis puts her snout in the air and Griffin follows her lead, the scent of fire and burnt flesh hitting our nostrils. “Damn, that smells bad.” Jocelyn says in my head and I can’t help but smile, it feels nice to hear her voice in my head. Our Warriors spread around the territory and start running patrols in the same pattern as back home, while I follow Erylis to the center of the territory. The Pack-house is still burning, but there are no noises coming from the building. Either no one was there or all of them are already dead. The SUVs are parked a few feet away and Indigo is making sure that all the Pups and Youngsters stay inside. None of us wants them to see too much of this carnage or any of the dead we may find. I see a syringe in Doc’s hand that I have seen before, not too long ago I might add and it is clear that whoever he is treating is at death’s door. A second passes and then we hear a blood curdling scream, but it does sound muffled for some reason. I look around me to see if anyone was able to pin point the location, but no one seems to have an answer. “Look for an entrance to the dungeons, it came from below.” Jocelyn says through the mind-link and the Omegas help her search for a way into the Pack’s dungeons. I follow close behind her, because Griffin doesn’t want me to leave her side. We have walked around the Pack-house three times already, but we haven’t been able to find an entrance. This Pack must have a dungeon, even if they are a small Pack and every Pack has their dungeons build under their Pack-house. “Almost every Pack or did you forget Pappi’s teachings?” Griffin mumbles and I stop for a moment to take a look around, trying to find the perfect place to hide a dungeon. I walk to a small building to the left of the Pack-house and I kick in the door with a lot of force, splitting the door in two. Jocelyn pushes me to the side and enters the small building quickly, a flash light pointed at the floor. She walks towards a closet against the back wall and gestures for me to look at the floor, marks of moving the closet to the left and right. I pull the closet towards me, allowing whoever is behind it to see Jocelyn first and that was my mistake because someone rushes forward. They knock Jocelyn to the ground, but I am able to grab them by their shoulder and turn him or her around. “We won’t harm you, we are looking after the wounded and want to help those that survived.” I speak gently, I don’t want to scare them. “My Dad….” She whispers, tears running down her cheeks. “He just died… A minute ago..” I know who she is talking about and I nod at one of the Omegas to guide her out of here, to guide her to Doc. He can tell her what happened and how bad his injuries were, that there was nothing anyone could have done for her Father. Jocelyn and I slowly walk into the corridor behind the closet and the distinct smell of dungeons floats our way, making Jocelyn wrinkle her nose. Soft whispers are being carried up the stairs, combined with soft whimpers and crying. I don’t think I want to see what is at the bottom of these stairs, but I also know that I don’t have a choice and I keep following Jocelyn down. I see females, Youngsters and Pups sitting against the walls, most females are holding on to someone and a handful are curled up on their side. Some of our Omegas walk past me with bottles of water in their hands, handing them out to whoever is reaching for it. Jocelyn walks around to take a look at all of them, making sure I stay near the stairs and give her time to calm everyone down. “Joseph, you need to carry her up and get her to Doc. She is in labor, but in no condition to give birth.” Jocelyn calls out and I walk to her without looking at anyone. I pick up the female and understand immediately why I heard panic in Jocelyn’s voice, she is dying. “Doc, get ready for a C-section.” I say over the mind-link, taking the stairs two at the time and I run to the front of the building at high speed. Indigo is waiting for me with Doc and after I have placed her on a stretcher I head back to the dungeons, four female Warriors on my tail. Even two nurses are following me down into the dungeons, neither one of them blinks as they see what is waiting for them. Each person gets checked, before they are send up with a female Warrior and they keep working until they have checked all of them. Six females, eight Youngsters and five Pups were hiding in the dungeons, one female didn’t make it but at least her Pup did. None of the Pack-members we found in the territory survived and we take the time to bury them all. It takes some time to convince them to join us, but Jocelyn and Indigo take their time to reassure each of them and in the end they are able to take away their worries. We place the survivors in the SUVs and head back to the open road, hoping to get a few hours of rest at our next stop. Maybe even spend a night at that stop, but that will be a last resort and I will only suggest it if I need to. It is safest for all of us, if we make it to White Mountain Pack sooner than later.
