Harvest Moon: Bound to My Four Stepbrothers

Chapter 641 Jocelyn's Story

Joseph’s p.o.v. Whatever is was that Inti wanted Jocelyn to see, has upset her greatly. She didn’t say a word to Indigo’s Wolf, she just put on the dress and got into the SUV. “We found Beta Jordan’s body, he put up one hell of a fight and still lost in the end.” Inti says through the mind-link and the demeanor of all our Pack-members changes, we all mourn the loss of Jenna and Faye’s Father. The rest of the night is uneventful, but I am glad we didn’t run into any trouble after the devastating news we got. I even forget about Griffin’s strange behavior, too busy with wondering who will raise the girls. None of our Pups and Youngsters know about Beta Jordan, but even they are more quiet than usual and it leaves me with an eerie feeling. After breakfast Joey takes Faye from Jocelyn and he takes Jenna with him to the other side of the circle, as far away from us as he can. Jocelyn folds out a map that I have never seen before, two little marks in the middle of nowhere and all our attention turns to her as her finger touches a mark. “That is where we buried Beta Faye, she bled out after giving birth to Faye.” Jocelyn says. “This is Beta Jordan’s grave, both of them have the same marking and I hope that we can bring them home one day.” Indigo tells us how they found Beta Faye and how they were able to determine that she had given birth recently. Jocelyn is drawing on a piece of paper, while we listen to Indigo and Griffin forces me to place my hand on her shoulder. I can feel her shoulder shake and as I take a closer look I can see that she is crying, I pull her in my arms without hesitation. Her drawing softly glides onto the map, a Celtic cross knot with a circle through it and it lands between the two markings on the map. No one says a word, we just sit there as Jocelyn is softly crying and I can muster a small smile when I see Inti with his arms around Indigo. I hear Inti inform the rest of our Pack-members about the latest piece of information that concerns the Beta family through the mind-link and you can almost touch the sadness that hangs in the air. This wasn’t what any of us had hoped for, we all wanted to find them alive. Griffin is lying in the back of my head, not really in the mood to talk and I believe he is using this time to think about something that is bugging him. “Jocelyn, can you tell me why you and Indigo ran away from your Pack?” I ask, just hoping to get her mind of what she saw. Most of our Pack-members are gathered not far from us, able to hear her answer when she is ready and I patiently wait to find out more about the female in my arms. “Our Alpha realized quickly that the lack of finding once fated Mate would cause trouble and he made it known that every female would have the last say in her Mate. We have until we are twenty one to go the Alpha, on our twenty first birthday he will invite you for a conversation. He hoped that he would be able to help every female find a Mate and so far it has worked for our Pack. However, the amount of unmated females that are of age was dwindling and I believe that is why our Fathers and our Brothers came up with a plan of their own. We ran after hearing our Brothers discuss our forceful marking and we both believed that our Mothers were involved as well. Shithat told me that Mom wasn’t aware of their plans, that she rejected Dad.” Jocelyn finally speaks. We all digest this information in silence, her Alpha had been a wise man and I believe he made the right decision in leaving the final choice up to the unmated female. Every Pack is facing the same problem, the amount of unmated females a male can chose from is becoming smaller each day. Especially if a Pack has more males than there are females, another problem is that some might be related somewhere down the line and that may decrease the chances of a male to find a suitable female. Maybe we should tell Mom about this Alpha’s solution to an ever increasing problem, we might be able to use it to our benefit somehow. It does mean that we need to go through every family file there is and that will be a long and tedious job, not something I am looking forward to. But maybe Mom will be against the idea and then I can avoid going through all those files or we can use only a part of this plan. Maybe it is best if I stop thinking about this for a while, before I drive myself stir crazy. “Mom was always present during those conversation, after all our Alpha couldn’t give her an Alpha order and she told me that he never forced anyone’s hand. Family members sometimes tried, but he always put a stop to it.” Jocelyn says to a question I didn’t hear. Griffin is softly snoring in the back of my head and I can’t stop the chuckle from escaping my mouth, it is a sight I haven’t seen since we left for Little Crescent Pack. I explain myself to the others and I see a shocked look on Inti’s face, seems that Griffin isn’t the only one that is in a deep sleep. “Hello, Baby. Are you sleepy?” Jocelyn asks, while Jenna crawls onto her lap and tries to suppress a yawn. I shift a little to support Jocelyn and Jenna makes herself comfortable, off to dreamland within seconds. Joey hands Faye to her and I watch as she places her in her arm to feed her a bottle, it looks so natural for Jocelyn to feed a baby. “Done this a lot, haven’t you?” Herold asks and she just nods her head. Indigo tells us a few stories about their babysitting experiences and the atmosphere turns a little lighter after the sad news we got earlier. It sounds as if looking after a Pup isn’t the easiest job in the world, not that you have a choice when you become a Father.
