Harvest Moon: Bound to My Four Stepbrothers

Chapter 625 Celtic Songs

Inti’s p.o.v. I watch Griffin as he walks through the high grass and I am curious what he will find out there. It isn’t high enough for someone to hide, at least not someone that might pose a threat to us. Our convoy has slowed down, but is still moving. We don’t want Joseph and our Warrior to be left unprotected and we don’t want our convoy to come to a full stop, so everyone is continuing at a slow pace. Griffin shares a look with the Warrior, but neither one of them says anything over the mind-link and Ronion is at high alert the moment Griffin stops dead in his tracks. Ronion walks over to Griffin, making sure he does is slowly but steadily and we both hope it isn’t some sort of explosive that someone hid in the high grass. I don’t think anyone could have been prepared for what we saw and it makes me understand Griffin’s actions better. The three of us are staring at a very young girl, her body wrapped around a new-born and both of them seem to be in a deep sleep. One of them stirring a little from time to time and that is what makes the grass around them move. “Doc, get your ass over here and take a nurse with you.” I order through the mind-link. Both of them have shifted back to their Human form and both gasp at the sight of the two little Pups. The nurse lifts the girl in her arms and walks back to the convoy, while Doc sits down in the grass to check the new-born. He slowly removes the sheet that is wrapped around the new-born and it is clear to see, that whoever left them behind, cared enough to clean the new-born. “A girl, carried to full term and perfectly healthy. My best guess is that they were left here by their parents, probably to keep whoever was after their parents from finding the Pups.” Doc says, before he wraps the sheet around the new-born again. I make the decision to take the Pups with us, I can’t leave them here in good conscious and after making sure that both of them are healthy, we continue our travel. We don’t have any Pups this young and clothing for this little one might be a challenge, but we will take care of them the best we can. “Keep an eye out for bodies or injured males and females. Their parents might be around here somewhere, we need to find some answers.” I say through the mind-link. Our convoy picks up speed again and Herold stays close to the SUV that holds the two little Pups, one of us needs to stay close, just in case one of them wakes up. I can’t imagine what went through their parents minds or why they were willing to risk their Pups lives by leaving them out there. It is something only a parent on the run during a time of war can answer, but we will keep them save. “Let’s hope we won’t encounter to many situations like this one. If I find whoever is responsible for this, I will tear them apart.” Ronion growls and I know I won’t be able to stop him, if we do run into whoever was chasing them. It is getting close to dawn when the first Pups start to wake up and from the first SUV I can hear a soft humming. I have heard this before, but I don’t know the name of the song or the Human that sang this centuries ago. I don’t think I have ever heard the words to this song, but the melody is a soothing one and I smile when the humming stops. Only to be followed by a soft voice that sings “Ailein Duinn” in a whisper, while others softly hum along. Why our Pups like these songs is beyond me? They are in a language that isn’t spoken anymore and yet they seem to enjoy the melody and the lyrics. Okay, there is still a Pack out there that uses this language. Crystal Blood Pack used it before the war, but only when strangers were visiting their territory. It was their code, their way of alerting others to danger and they were able to recover many of the songs in the Celtic language. Those songs were always playing in the background in the Pack-house at White Mountain Pack and once Joseph found out that our Pups and youngsters had an interest in them, he made sure it was heard throughout our Pack-house too. While most of the Pups in the SUVs are humming a melody, one of the drivers starts softly tapping on the outside of his door and soon most of our Pack-members are moving left to right to the rhythm he is tapping. I prefer the instrumental songs, there is nothing to distract me and I have caught Ronion a time or two humming along. “Alph, our guests are awake.” I hear Doc say through the mind-link and Herold shows up next to me, ready to take my position in lead. Ronion lets himself fall back to the SUV that carries the two young Pups and I am surprised to see the girl smiling at us. “Her name is Jenna, but she doesn’t know the name of her baby Sister. She is too young to tell us anything, she can barely speak.” The youngster that is holding Jenna whispers to me. Ronion nods at her and moves a little closer to the SUV, when Jenna reaches out her hand to touch him. She giggles as she touches his snout and she leans back against the chest of the youngster that is holding her. We make our way back to the front, taking the lead again and I can’t wait to get to our next stop. I want to see both Pups with my own eyes and I want to find out why the girl can barely speak. It is common for Omegas and Sigmas to be slower to learn, but they didn’t feel like low-ranking Wolves or Lycans. I actually hate the word low-ranking, an Omega and a Sigma are just as important to a Pack as their leadership or their Warriors.
