Harvest Moon: Bound to My Four Stepbrothers

Chapter 598 Unwanted Visitor

Josy Conan and Kanoa will take care of the diner for the time being; I didn't feel comfortable leaving the boys with someone else, and for some reason I feel protective of Romano. Mylana is going to tutor Malik and Ivan in my Quarters; they don't want to leave without me or their Uncle, and Mylana offered to tutor them here. I know they are another sort of shifter than what we have in our Pack, but I haven't asked them what kind of shifter they are. Mylana has agreed to keep the subject away from shifters; we both want them to offer it out of their own or for Romano to tell us himself. Malik is five years old, and in a few weeks Ivan will turn four. They both call Romano Uncle Mano because they couldn't pronounce his name properly, and we all call him Mano when we talk about him. Tychon trains them while I have my own training; it was a compromise we made when they refused to leave my side. In the past week we have gotten into a routine, and every meal is eaten in Mano's room, the boys telling him what they did. None of us is willing to give up hope that he will wake up, and Alice told us that according to Human research he could probably hear us, something that we are really hoping for. Malik has found a new book he wants me to read, and he crawls onto the bed next to Mano, while Ivan settles in on his other side. I sit down in the armchair at the foot of his bed and place my feet between his legs as I open the book; Malik chose the first journal Jake left us. "Did you ask Alpha Lakota if you could take it, Malik?" I ask him as I place the journal on my lap. "Yes, she actually told me to take it and ask you to read it to us," he answers, and I know exactly why Lakota told him to take it; she wants to give them an opening to tell us what kind of shifter they are. I smile at Ivan and Malik before I start reading. My name is August and I wrote this journal for my Kittens. I wanted them to know about their family, about what happened to some of our kind and how most of us coped with it. I am one of the lucky few that found his fated Mate in their own kind; I am grateful for the time I had with her and the time she had with our Kittens. I look up at the boys and I see both of them staring at me. "Do you know how we got these journals?" I ask, but neither one of them can tell me. "Alpha Lakota found her second chance Mate when we were traveling towards this territory, but Jake was fatally wounded by Rogues and he died in her arms.Jake asked Lance to give her the journals, but it took five years before she was ready to finally read them, and that is when she found out that Jake was a Mountain Lion. Jake is the only Mountain Lion any of us has ever met, but we also have two Leopards in our Pack. One of them is Tychon and the other is his Sister, Denali," I say before I pick up the journal again and continue with August's story. Before I am finished with his first entry, the boys are fast asleep, and I carry them both back to their bed, tucking them in before I kiss them goodnight. Like every night, after I put them both back in their bed, I sit down next to Mano and tell him how Ivan and Malik are doing. "I know that you aren't a Leopard or Mountain Lion, nor are you a Wolf or a Lycan, and I don't care. I just wish I knew what kind of shifter you are; if I had to guess I would go with a Bear. You are huge, so that would make sense to me. Then my next question would be, what kind of Bear. A Black Bear, a Kodiak Bear or a Grizzly Bear. That one would be a bit more difficult to guess; I think I would go with a Grizzly Bear. Jazzy asked me if it mattered what kind of shifter you are, and I told her it didn't. It truly doesn't matter to me; I just want you to wake up. We don't know the details of what happened and neither do Malik and Ivan, but we all want you to wake up. If you are in trouble we might be able to help or keep you and the boys hidden from whoever killed your family." After I am done talking, I place a kiss on his forehead and then I turn in for the night. When I wake in the morning I find Ivan curled up in my side and Malik behind him with an arm wrapped around his Brother. The first morning I woke up with them in my bed I almost screamed, but I managed to keep it to a soft squeal, and every morning I wake up with a smile on my face. They trust me, and this is their way of showing me that they care for me. Today will be the first time they are going to class with the Pups, and both of them had been excited when I asked them if they wanted to go. Ivan wasn't sure at first, but when I told them what their classes would be about, he was more than happy to go. It will be my first day back at the diner, and Tychon promised to drop them off after class is over. They can make their homework in the diner, and it will give me a chance to check if everything went smoothly during my absence. I know Conan and Kanoa would have come to me with trouble, but they also understood I wanted to be there for Ivan and Malik. "Good morning, my Angels. It is time to wake up and to get dressed," I say as I kiss both of them on the top of their heads. "Good morning, Josy," Malik says before he pulls me closer to give me a kiss on my cheek. Ivan seems to be a little more reluctant to wake up, and I pull him onto my chest as I softly call his name. He slowly opens his eyes, and when he looks at me with those bright green eyes of his, I kiss him on his forehead. "Come on, sleeping beauty. Time to get ready for your classes," I say, and he huffs as he tries to get out of my arms. "Now that I want to cuddle, you're in a hurry to get out of bed, aren't you?" I say, and Ivan shakes his head as he wraps his arms around my neck. Ivan needs a little time to wake up while Malik is ready to go the moment he opens his eyes; this is my way of giving Ivan a little more time. I think both of them know what I am doing, but neither one of them says anything about it. Ivan rushes into my bathroom as Malik gets out, and he walks to their room to get them both some clothing. I head to the bathroom when Ivan and Malik go to see Mano, and when I get to his room our breakfast is already waiting. Ivan tells Mano that they will be gone all day, but that Alice will check up on him every few hours and that they will tell him all about their day during dinner. They kiss him on the cheek before they walk out of his room, and as I follow them I say over my shoulder, "See you later, Mano." I drop the boys off with Mylana and I meet Conan and Kanoa outside the Pack-house; we talk about the past week as we walk towards the diner. Peter had taken a design from the Humans, and luckily the Archives of the Council contained a blueprint. We made some adjustments to accommodate us better, but no major ones, and I smile when I see the 1950's style diner appear in front of me. The place is clean, but I hadn't expected anything less from Conan and Kanoa. I even find a list of items that need to be ordered, and Kanoa even did my monthly inventory for me; looks like it will be a normal day for me. After I place the order, I walk back into the diner and I start placing everything on the tables. Morning passes quickly, and then the lunch rush hits us; I love the noises and commotion from the Warriors. They come in here when they are on patrol; they come in two shifts to make sure our borders are always protected, and they give us their orders through the mind-link before they show up at the diner. It saves them time, time that they need on border patrol. Colton came up with the idea, and he asked me how I felt about it; I had asked him to explain to me why he wanted the Warriors to order through the mind-link. After he explained it to me, I realized he had thought about it and his request was more than reasonable, so I agreed with him. "Conan, how did it go with visitors?" I ask, knowing that one of the females I worry about had her family visit two days ago. "They called off the visit; their Alpha is stepping down and they needed to help out with the ceremony. They rescheduled it to the end of this week," Conan answers. I am surprised to hear that; her family was constantly begging her to come home and to take her place as the Pack's Luna. Her family is still unaware of the way her Mate treated her, that he rejected her after he cheated on her for months and had her convicted on bogus charges. It took her a few weeks to confide in me, and I promised her that there would always be someone to keep an eye on her family. It was one of the changes we made after Alpha Lakota found out about my concerns, and in the past year we have seen a change in the families that visit. "Let's just hope that it means they will finally accept that she is not moving back," I state as I clear off the table, and I look up as I hear the bell chime. "Conan, what is he doing here?" I ask through the mind-link. Every Warrior is looking at the male in the doorway, but it doesn't seem to faze him at all.
