Alpha Amarath

Chapter 722 Highest Rank

Jocelyn’s p.o.v. Suddenly Wolves start to shift back to their Human form and I see Pups climb on each other’s laps to make room for the people that get into the SUVs. A female steps over Indigo to get into the back and she pulls on a dress as she sits down. Jenna crawls onto my lap and the girl in the front allows another female to sit in the front passenger seat, before she sits down on the female’s lap. It is amazing to see everyone adapt to this situation so fast and without the SUVs coming to a full stop. I watch the front of the convoy and I see even more Wolves and Lycans than I saw in the tree line blocking our way, but our drivers have a trick up their sleeve. The moment the front line of Warriors moves out of the way, our drivers speed up and they are not slowing down. It turns into a bit of a bumpy ride, as we drive over a few fallen Wolves, but I don’t give a damn. They had it coming, trying to take something that doesn’t belong to them and I watch over my shoulder as the distance between us becomes bigger. “We are to head to the next stop, they will catch up with us.” Joey says and I take a look at the map to see where we are going. The convoy doesn’t slow down, the female Warriors keeping up with us and I know that they will be our only defense at our next stop. I start humming one of my favorite tunes and the others quickly join me, “You raise me up to more than I can be.” I start singing softly and Erylis joins me in my head, enjoying this as much as I do. Humming and singing makes the mood inside the SUV a little less depressed and I am surprised that Joey can keep the SUV on the road, while he is humming along with me. I start humming the theme from Harry’s Game, an all-time favorite of Indigo and I can see a small smile appear on her face. Apparently she can hear me in her sleep and I continue to hum her favorite songs, the driver humming along effortlessly. “Thank you.” I hear Indigo whisper and in my excitement I almost drop Faye, waking her in the process. “Shh, Shh. I’ve got you, sorry for startling you.” I say and Indigo slowly opens her eyes and they widen the moment she sees what I am holding. “Okay, I know you can be fast sometimes, but isn’t this a bit much.” She mumbles and the driver and I are laughing our asses off, while the other passengers keep an eye on the road. Indigo sits up straight and I see her looking around, the confusion clear in her eyes. Jenna decides to give her baby Sister a bit more room and crawls onto Indigo’s lap, snuggling against her chest and slowly drifting off to sleep.“That is Jenna and this is Faye, they are Sisters.” I say, as I point at the siblings and I see Indigo’s eyes widen for a second. “Do you think we found their Mom?” She asks me and I have already asked myself that question a few times since I woke up. “It could be, the clothes fit both of them perfectly and how many highly pregnant females do you think were out there?” I ask her, but I know that I need time to take a good look inside that bag to find some answers. We watch as the sun rises and most of the Pups in our SUV start to wake up, but not the two youngest occupants of the SUV. I know we will be stopping at a clearing, but I am not sure how we can protect all the Pups if someone decides to attack us. It takes another half hour to get to the clearing and I really need to talk to whomever came up with the idea to form a circle with the SUVs, it will make a good shelter. “Okay, get breakfast ready. Doc, make sure you set up for the wounded.” I order and for a moment everyone just looks at me. “Your leadership is fighting back there and that means that I am the highest ranking Wolf at the moment.” It is all they need to hear to get moving and within minutes the Pups start pulling all sorts of stuff from the SUVs. Sleeping bags are placed near the SUVs, pillows and blankets are placed at four different spots and each spot gets their own box. I walk around with Faye in my arms to see if anyone needs help, Jenna is holding on to the seam of my dress and Indigo is helping the Omegas with preparing breakfast. “Jocelyn, how long will it be for the Alpha to return?” I hear Joey ask and I know that everyone is waiting for my answer. “As long as it takes. Your Alpha will not allow them to escape and depending on the amount of wounded, it might take some time. If they haven’t returned by nightfall, we will head out according to plan and we will take it slow.” I answer him, but deep down inside I hope that they will return soon. Leading a Pack has never been in my future and I am not sure if I would want to lead a Pack, especially not under these circumstances. “Good answer, Jocelyn.” Doc says as he steps next to me. “What is your rank?” “Gamma.” I answer, but don’t give him any more information. My background doesn’t matter at the moment and Doc seems to understand it. “Everything is ready for any wounded they might bring back, but I might need you to help me. I doubt I will get our entire leadership to rest at the same time.” He says with a smile and I will have my work cut out for me if I have to side with Doc.We sit down for breakfast and I can feel Erylis getting stronger, the rest and the food is what we both needed. Tonight I will let her run alongside the convoy, even if it will be on the inside. If I can convince the Alpha that is, he might not agree with me and Erylis.
