Alpha Amarath

Chapter 713 Anonymous Grave

Jocelyn’s p.o.v. We are making slow progress, but we have already avoided several Wolves and so far it seemed as if they were just passing through. Erylis loves hunting rabbits, because they give her a challenge and we have come across a lot of them. The rabbits Erylis and Kardia have killed and eaten are enough to keep us going and the snacks we were able to take with us are enough to still the small hungers we get along the way. The feeling that other Wolves are near is always in the back of my head and I have come to trust my instincts, just like my Mother. My Father was born a Delta, but became the Gamma after the original Gamma had been killed. My Mother was a Gamma’s Daughter from a strong bloodline and according to my Mother I am a better Gamma than my Brother. My Brother is just riding on our Father’s reputation and if he wants to take over the position in the future, he needs to start paying attention to what my Father is teaching him. My Father never bothered to teach me anything, but he would always ask questions in front of me and if my Brother didn’t know the answer, he would always turn to me. I, of course, always knew the answer and even though he never said it, my Father was proud of me. Erylis forces me to stop and pulls me from my thoughts, I move a little forward in her mind to see through her eyes. I don’t see anything out of the ordinary, but then she starts sniffing the air and we can smell the faint scent of blood. Kardia follows us in the direction of the blood-scent, both Wolves making sure to keep their ears open and it takes us about fifteen minutes to find the source of the scent. Kardia and Erylis walk towards the female that is leaning against a tree, we can’t see any obvious wounds and for a moment I wonder how she died. Kardia takes a step forward, pushing a bag from the female’s lap and that is when we see the cause of the blood-scent. “Walk around, look for a new-born. I will see if I can pick up a trail, we need to know where she came from.” I say to Indigo and we both slowly wake around the area to get any kind of information. We don’t find anything, no new-born and no blood trail. Kardia and Erylis start digging a grave between the tree and some bushes, when they are done Erylis marks the tree and then we shift back to Human form. Indigo and I don’t say a word as we move the female to the shallow grave, but we find the answer to the missing blood trail. There is fabric tied between her legs and it is soaked with blood. My best guess is that she bled out, while running from whoever was after her. “Should we bury the bag with her?” Indigo asks and I take a look inside to find clothing for a young Pup and a new-born. “We will take it with us, maybe we can find her Pups or help out another Pup with these clothes.” I say as I put the bag next to my backpack, not that I am expecting to find her Pups. We remove the necklace she has around her neck and place it in the bag. We will hand this over to the Alpha of White Mountain Pack and give them all the information we have, maybe someday we can return it to her family. After we have put her into the grave, Erylis and Kardia take over and cover her with the soil. We can’t give her the funeral she deserves, it would alert others to our whereabouts and one death is enough at the moment. “Let's get moving, I want enough space between this grave and us before we are going to rest for the night.” I say to Indigo and our Wolves set off once again. For the next three hours we keep moving and I am surprised that we haven’t run into any other Wolves or Lycans along the way. Maybe we can make it to safety without running into any trouble, I at least hope that our Brothers made a wise decision. The past two nights we have slept in trees, today we are near an area that is known for hidden caves and we hope that we can find one of those caves. Erylis is feeling anxious and refuses to head in the direction of the caves, she wants to find the biggest tree around here. “Jocelyn, she has never steered us wrong. If she feels this is best, than we will trust her.” Kardia says in my head and I know that she is right, but I would have loved to sleep on the ground for one night. Kardia and Erylis stop walking, there is a huge tree in front of us. Its branches are thicker that I am, this has to be a very old tree and I can already see the perfect spot for a good rest. Indigo and I have just settled in the tree, we have gotten dressed and are about to have a snack when we get startled by a noise. We don’t move from our spot, no one can see us and that might just save our lives. It stays quiet around us and after half an hour we grab our snack, planning on eating and then going to sleep. A scent I thought I would never smell again drifts through the branches and I turn my head towards Indigo, it is the scent of my Father. I am not moving from my spot, I know what will happen if he finds us and I am not going to live with a Mate that will cheat on me. “Anything, Dad?” I hear my Brother ask and for just a moment it is quiet again. “Nothing, I can’t even feel our bond. Let’s keep moving, they are getting further away from us.” I hear my Father answer. “If the two of you want a Mate, we have to find them and drag them back home.”Okay, it is official. The only family I have left is Indigo and I will do anything to get us both to safety.
