Chapter 330 Mate-bond

Benjamin’s P.O.V. Reginald and I woke up early this morning, both of us a bit agitated and we couldn’t get back to sleep. While I let Reginald out to run, I sat in the back of his head and thought about everything that happened the past year. When we got back to the Palace I took a shower and asked Martha to make me some breakfast I could take with me to the Library. I was going to look for some answers in regard to my Grandsons and their predicament with Hunter. I walked past every shelf as I glanced at the titles of the books and it took me almost an hour before I found a book titled “Mate-bond”. I grabbed it form the shelf and sat down in an armchair near the entrance of the Library. I had just finished the first chapter when Jason walked in and he tells me what Jayce and Jax overheard, he is at a loss as what to do about it. By the time I had finished the third chapter I had had a visit from Jayce as well and headed out the Library to get some lunch. After lunch I went back to the Library and soon Jax walks in with the same story as Jax and Jason. I had been engrossed in a chapter when Justin walked in and I heard the same story for the fourth time today. Reginald laughed his ass off every time one of them came in, telling us about last night and I had to make sure my face showed no emotion whatsoever. It wasn’t easy to do, but I think I pulled it off and after Justin left I was finally able to finish with my book. Reginald and I are in our Quarters getting ready for dinner as we try to find a way to bring up this subject without giving away my Grandsons secrets. By the time we are on our way to the dining-hall we know how to get the discussion going. A few minutes after everyone is seated I decide to get this show on the road and I turn my attention to Hunter and the twins, asking them how their studies are going. The girls start talking and soon the ones I want to listen are paying attention. “Did you discuss the Mate-bond already? I read a book on the topic and I would like to hear your opinion.” I say as I look at each of the girls and they shake their heads. “The topic I would like an opinion on is one I know Daniel feels strong about and I always thought I agreed with him until I read this book. Daniel believes that if someone finds their Mate and that Mate happens to be underaged, they are not supposed to inform them. He believes that they should find out for themselves, my question is do the three of you agree with him.” I look at Ella first and I can tell that all three are really thinking about my question. Ella is the first to answer and I have to stifle a smile as she speaks, “I think it depends on the situation. Sometimes it will be better to let is play out the way the Goddess intended it and sometimes it might be necessary to tell the truth.” Hunter and Emma agree with Ella and I hear Daniel tell them why he thinks it is not wise to tell them before they are of age. I see all three girls thinking about what Daniel has said and even though I know he is partially correct, I hope the girls will be able to explain why it isn’t always the best. “Dad, I understand you want everyone to experience this for themselves. I think most will agree with you and I truly believe you want what is best for everyone. However, I don’t agree with you that it should apply to everyone under all circumstances. We all know that males are very protective of their Mates and that could cause trouble if the female is unaware of why a male acts a certain way. We also know that how higher the rank of the male the worse it is and that will most certainly create trouble for other males.” Hunter states and I see Daniel looking at her with wide eyes. Some others give their opinion as well and I see the girls processing everything they hear. My Grandsons are quiet during all of this and I can see them debating with their Lycans as their eye color changes back and forth. By the time it is time for dessert most have spoken their opinion and I notice that Hunter is debating with Justice. Suddenly there is an angry look in her eyes and she snaps her head towards Daniel. “Princess, what is wrong?” I ask, hoping to make her take a step back before she says something that she night regret afterwards. “Pops, everyone is looking at this from the male’s point of view. No one is considering the female and I can guarantee you that that is the biggest mistake.” She growls. Aspen asks her what she means by that and I know she has figured out a few things mentioned in the book. “Mom, let me explain this with a hypothetical theory. Maybe then Dad will understand why it is not always the best choice. Let’s say that Jayce found his Mate this year, but didn’t tell anyone because of Dad’s reasoning. He will be over-protective of her and we already know that it will be worse than how he is towards me. He will try to keep away every male as much as he can and that will make her angry with him, maybe resulting in her even hating him. He will also become more agitated and easier to anger because his Lycan can’t be near his Mate. Now, lets say that Jayce is able to keep it to himself for the entire year and then she finds out he is her Mate. She is already pissed as hell at him for being an ass, this might make it worse because it will make it look as if he didn’t trust her with the truth. So, instead of the happy ending everyone was hoping for, she tells him to go to hell and rejects him. I know I probably would react that way if it happened to me.” She looks Aspen in the eye the entire time she speaks and I see that my Son and Grandsons are all in shock. “However, that won’t be the biggest problem.” She says and I wonder what she would consider the biggest problem. “Lets say Jayce did confide in someone or in more than one person, there is a possibility she might end up angry with those people as well. I know I would be pissed off with each of you if you knew and decided to keep it from me. So I believe I just painted you a picture of the worst case that could happen. And just so you all understand me, if my Mate finds me before I am of age I suggest you make sure he and all of you are honest with me. If not you might find out that I am a bigger bitch than most of you already think.” She walks away after she is done and the entire dining-room stays quiet. Ella and Emma follow her out and I just stare at the table, I had not expected my question would cause this much trouble. I don’t recall Martha placing dessert in front of me or that I even had dessert, I am so lost in thought that I don’t hear the other Lycans leaving the dining-hall. Aspen is the one that pulls me out of my thoughts as she says, “I want everyone in Daniel’s office, now.” She doesn’t wait on a response from any of us as she walks out and silently we all get up and follow her to Daniel’s office. We have all learned over the past year not to argue with Aspen when she uses that tone and I wonder what will happen once the door of the office is closed. “If she suspects you asked this with a specific reason, you better answer her truthfully. Our Daughter scares me when she is like this.” Reginald grumbles. Daniel is the last to enter his office and he closes the door behind him as I look at each of my Grandsons. Aspen is standing in front of a window, just staring outside and we all sit down. Daniel once told me when Aspen is like this it is best if he stays at a safe distance and I had laughed at him, until he told me what she had done. None of us say a word as we wait for Aspen to say or ask what it is that is on her mind. “Someone better start talking and it better be the truth or this Kingdom gets to bury all it’s Royals in the morning.” Bella growls and we can all she that she is right beside Aspen on this. Daniel looks at her and says, “I don’t know what is going on. Will you please explain to me why the two of you are so mad?” Aspen sighs and turns back to the window before she starts talking. “I think Dad and at least one of our Pups know what I am talking about. Dad asked that question with a reason and knowing him the way I do, it has to do with at least one of our Pups.” She says and Daniel’s head snaps towards me. Reginald is the one to answer her, “We know Hunter’s Mate found her last year, but it is not our place to say who he is.” Daniel and Aspen look at us and for a moment I fear that Aspen is going to kill me.“Dad, you heard what she said. She will hold this against you when she finds out and I don’t know what she will do when she is told.” Aspen sounds so sad as she speaks and I know that she is right. One by one my Grandsons thank me through the mind-link for keeping their secret and I tell each of them the same thing, “Aspen is right, she will hold this against both of us when she finds out. Think about whether you want to keep is a secret much longer. I will tell her the same thing I told Aspen and your Dad and I hope she will forgive me someday.” I know it has to be their decision and it is not up to me to expose their secret, but I will tell her my part of the secret.
