Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze

Chapter 544 Holt

"I’m not very educated, so I can’t come up with a good name for the child. Ms. Stone, would you mind giving him one?" Beth looked at Natalie with anticipation. Natalie looked at the child beside her and said softly, "Let’s call him Holt." "Great, Holt is a good name. My son will be called Holt from now on." Beth was so happy she started crying again. Natalie stroked Holt’s head, only to realize that something was wrong with his state. "Holt, calm down!" Natalie quickly grabbed Holt’s hand, but the child seemed to have retreated into his own world, not listening to her at all. The brush in his hand moved faster and faster, tearing the drawing paper, but he seemed completely unaware. When Beth saw her son like this, she scrambled up, wanting to approach but afraid Holt would hurt her. "Son, don’t be like this! It’s Mommy! It’s Mommy!" She only dared to cry and shout from the side, not daring to get any closer. Seeing her like this, Baron couldn't help but ask, "Has he been like this before?" Beth nodded quickly. "Yes, he’s been like this ever since he woke up. He has these episodes intermittently. When one starts, he attacks people indiscriminately and even harms himself. I tried to restrain him before, but I found that the more I held him, the more violently he struggled, even to the point of hurting himself, so I didn’t dare to get near him anymore." Beth felt terrible as she explained this. Her son used to be so attached to her, so well-behaved and sensible. But now, even though her son was right in front of her, she felt an insurmountable distance between them. Hearing Beth’s explanation, Natalie didn't dare to try and hold Holt forcefully either. Baron was afraid she would get hurt and instinctively wanted to pull Natalie away, but he saw Natalie shake her head at him. Natalie thought about what she was like and how she felt during her own childhood autism. She stroked Holt’s head and began to hum softly. "Sleep, sleep, my dear baby, my hands gently rock you. The cradle rocks you to sleep, the night is quiet and the covers are warm…" Natalie’s voice was very gentle. She sang slowly, patting Holt’s back lightly, again and again. Holt’s body stiffened slightly, and the grip on the brush in his hand relaxed a little. When Natalie saw this, she knew he could still hear her. She continued to sing softly. This was the first time Baron had ever heard Natalie sing. So my wife’s singing is this good. Baron quickly took out his phone, took a picture of Natalie, and recorded a video. When Beth heard Natalie sing this song, she was stunned. This was the song she used to sing to lull her son to sleep, but she didn’t sing it as beautifully as Natalie. She hadn't expected her son to still remember it. Beth’s tears finally streamed down uncontrollably. She clamped her hand tightly over her mouth, terrified of disturbing the child. Natalie sang the song patiently, over and over, until Holt’s emotions finally stabilized. He raised his head and looked at Natalie, his eyes filled with bewilderment and confusion. The woman in front of him was very beautiful, but she didn’t look like the mommy in his memory. Who is she? Holt actually wanted to ask, but he seemed to have forgotten how to speak. He just stared blankly at Natalie, as clear and clean as a blank sheet of paper, yet it was a heartbreaking sight. "Hello, Holt. My name is Natalie. I’m your art teacher. How about I teach you how to draw from now on?" Natalie looked gently into Holt’s eyes as she spoke. Hearing this, Baron knew that Natalie had genuinely taken a liking to this child and planned to take him on as a student. Beth was so happy she was crying and laughing at the same time, unable to express how she felt. Holt, however, showed no expression. He just pushed the paper and brush in front of him toward Natalie. Natalie immediately understood what he meant. She took the paper and brush and quickly sketched some simple lines. In just a few strokes, a very cute little cartoon character appeared in front of Holt. Holt’s eyes instantly lit up. He tightly gripped Natalie’s hand, trying very hard to speak, but no words came out.Seeing him so anxious that his face turned red and his forehead beaded with sweat, Natalie quickly took a tissue to wipe his sweat, then said softly, "Holt, do you want to learn? If you want to learn, your teacher will teach you from now on, okay? Also, she has a little sister and a little brother at home. They can play with you too. Do you want to come home with her?" Natalie had thought it through. This child truly had a talent for drawing, and Beth’s worries were justified. The person behind James was powerful, and it really wasn't safe for Beth to stay here with her child.
