Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze

Chapter 539 The Surprise Visit

Natalie smiled and nodded. "It’s just climbing stairs. I can do it! Don’t seriously think I’m some pampered young lady who can’t do anything." After saying that, Natalie took the lead and started walking up the stairs. Baron followed behind, chuckling. They quickly reached the fourth floor. Natalie pointed to the East door in front of them and looked at Baron in confusion. Baron walked straight to the door and knocked. A familiar female voice came from inside. "Coming!" Natalie’s body froze slightly, and she immediately looked at Baron. Could the woman inside be the person I’m thinking of? Seeing Natalie’s surprised expression, Baron reached out and squeezed her cheek. Hmm, not much flesh, but the feel is pretty good. Baron thought to himself, then smiled and asked, "What’s the matter?" Natalie didn't expect Baron to squeeze her face and felt a little embarrassed. She shot Baron a glare. Before she could say anything, the door was already opened. "Ms. Stone? Mr. Gunn? What brings you here?" Beth was very surprised by their arrival. Natalie had guessed it was her when she heard the voice, but she hadn’t expected it to actually be Beth. The Beth now had long shed the revealing clothes she wore on the ship’s cabin. She was currently wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans, and her hair was simply tied up with a hairpin. Although she looked a little tired, her overall appearance was quite good. "How is your son?" Natalie felt a degree of guilt when speaking of Beth’s son. On the ship, she had used the promise of treating Beth's son's illness to get Beth to switch sides. If it weren't for Beth, they couldn't have taken down everything on the ship so quickly. However, after returning to Ocean City, the Stone family had its own issues, which led to Natalie neglecting Beth’s situation somewhat. She remembered Beth’s son had leukemia, right? Just as Natalie was about to apologize, she saw Beth smiling warmly, grabbing her hand, and pulling her inside. "Oh, Ms. Stone, thank you so much. You come in and sit down too." Beth made way for her as she spoke. Natalie looked at Baron, a little confused. Baron directly handed the bags he was holding to Beth. "Bought these for the child, and there’s a box of sea cucumber to help him recover." Beth knew sea cucumber was a good product. It wasn't something you could just buy with money; you had to know what you were buying. Many sea cucumbers on the market now were farmed, which had low nutritional value but were sold at high prices. Beth didn’t understand this product and had wanted to buy some for her son, but she had hesitated, worried about buying sea cucumbers that were preserved with contraceptives. She naturally didn't doubt the authenticity of the items Baron brought. "Thank you. I won’t stand on ceremony then." Beth reached out and took the items, her smile unbroken. Although Natalie was puzzled, seeing Beth’s demeanor, she guessed that her son must be fine. Recalling that Baron had previously mentioned introducing the Witch Doctor to operate on Beth’s son, she subtly questioned Baron with her eyes. Before Baron could answer, Beth happily said, "To be honest, my son’s current health is all thanks to you." Natalie smiled and said, "It’s nothing. I promised you before. Besides, your son’s life is at stake, and we would naturally help where we can." Truthfully, Natalie felt quite guilty. She had been so busy with family matters that she had neglected Beth. If it hadn't been for Baron, she probably would have harmed Beth’s son. Beth, however, shook her head with a smile. "Ms. Stone, getting to know you is a blessing for me and my son. To be honest, when my son first arrived in Ocean City, the Witch Doctor came to examine his condition but then had to leave because of some urgent matter. At that time, I thought my son was beyond help, but luckily, Mr. Gunn called the hospital and asked them to take care of us." Beth said this with deep emotion. Natalie, however, was slightly stunned. The Witch Doctor didn’t operate on Beth’s son? She subconsciously looked at Baron. Baron nodded and said, "He had an urgent matter at the time, and I couldn't insist on him staying. So, I asked the hospital to temporarily look after them. Later, the Witch Doctor recommended a specialist in this field to Beth. At the time, her son's condition was critical, and surgery was the only option. That specialist definitely had the skills; the surgery was successful. But I was afraid someone might be watching them, so I asked someone to rent an apartment here in this residential area for them to recuperate."
