Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze
"I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry!" The person was a young nurse, wearing a nurse’s uniform, but her eyes dared not meet Loretta’s. Rachel glanced at what she was holding; it seemed to be a baby. "Aren’t you afraid that child in your arms will suffocate?" The child in the young nurse’s arms had its head covered by a swaddling blanket. If Rachel didn’t have sharp eyes, she wouldn't have noticed it was a baby. Hearing Rachel say this, the young nurse suddenly panicked and quickly explained, "This child was stillborn. The family is completely heartbroken, so they asked me to take the body from here to the morgue. I'm so sorry for bumping into you." When the young nurse said this, Loretta’s expression instantly changed. "Bah, bah, bah! Isn't that bad luck? I haven’t even given birth yet! You come crashing into me with a dead child—what is your intention? Unacceptable! Let’s go! I’m going to find your head nurse; this matter must be explained today!" Loretta started to pull the young nurse. The young nurse immediately burst into tears. "Madam, I’m truly not intentional. Please let me go! I’ve apologized to you!" Saying this, the young nurse was about to apologize again. Rachel quickly stopped her. "Regardless, the young nurse didn't do it on purpose. I think we should just let it go. Your stomach is fine anyway." Rachel pointedly looked at Loretta's stomach, a hint of sarcasm in her eyes. Loretta was furious but couldn't say much, afraid that Rachel would reveal something."Fine, you’re beautiful and kindhearted, so hurry up and let her leave!" Loretta finished speaking and was about to walk away. Rachel suddenly spoke, "I just remembered I have something I haven’t finished yet. You go down first. Let’s meet here again in ten minutes." "What do you mean?" Loretta immediately grew wary. Rachel waved her hand, signaling the young nurse to leave. Seeing that no one else was around, Rachel said, "I don’t know if you have people on the second floor. I’m a cautious person, and I wouldn’t sell my own son unless I had no other choice. This is the third-floor stairwell, at least. If anything happens, I don’t think the Stone family people would stand by and do nothing. Don’t blame me for being suspicious. If you really want to go through with this deal, let’s do the transaction right here. Otherwise, forget it." Hearing this, Loretta’s expression became very ugly. "What are you afraid of?" "I’m afraid you’ll kill me to silence me! I’m afraid I’ll hand over my son and won’t get a single penny of this five hundred thousand. After all, we didn't know each other before. If you genuinely want to trade with me, then it has to be here." Rachel had thought of this just now when she bumped into the young nurse. If she foolishly followed Loretta down to the second floor, who knew what Loretta might do to her? Loretta’s eyes went red with anger. She stared intensely at Rachel but could do nothing. In the end, she could only agree. Rachel didn’t dare go down to fetch her son alone either. She waited for the young nurse to come out, hoping to ask the young nurse to accompany her to the second floor.Because Rachel demanded cash instead of a check, Loretta had to go to a nearby bank to withdraw the money. Rachel turned around to look for the young nurse but saw that the young nurse, still holding the deceased child, had not gone to the morgue. Instead, she had entered the Stone family’s hospital room. The nurse seemed to have placed the dead child under the cart, which was covered with medicines and solutions, making it impossible for anyone to discover the deceased child. Rachel's heart sank. What is this young nurse doing? She felt she had discovered something extremely important and immediately hid. No matter what she said now, the Stone family people might not believe her. The young nurse came out shortly after pushing the cart in. Everything seemed unchanged. Rachel was somewhat surprised. Did I overthink this? She quickly intercepted the young nurse. The young nurse was startled to see her. "Madam, what do you want?" "Nurse, I need a favor. I can give you fifty dollars. Could you please accompany me downstairs to fetch my son?" Rachel quickly pulled out fifty dollars, which was all the money she had left on her. The young nurse didn’t even glance at the money and immediately refused. "I’m sorry, I’m busy with work. You can go down yourself. Our hospital is very safe." The young nurse was about to push the cart and leave, but Rachel stopped her again. "Nurse, I saw you put that deceased child under the cart and push it into the hospital room. Do you think the Stone family people would be disgusted by something like that?" "Don't talk nonsense." The young nurse's face changed instantly upon hearing this, and she quickly reached out to cover Rachel’s mouth. Rachel took this opportunity to lift the cover under the cart where the deceased child was placed. But Rachel’s expression immediately shifted.
