Grief, Betrayals, and a Core of Blaze

Chapter 393 A Calculated Warning

Baron turned his gaze directly toward Jensen’s car. Jensen didn’t look away. He rolled down his window, their eyes clashing in the air like sparks snapping in silence. Hansel, however, wasn’t watching that duel—his attention was fixed on Rio. Even when Rio stopped, he still stood a full step behind Baron. Hansel’s brows tightened. Something about this was off. Very off. Jensen had no idea what Hansel was thinking. He sneered, lifting his hand to make a mocking gesture toward Baron. That useless man could worry about himself all he liked—once Jensen rescued Natalie, she would surely be disappointed in Baron. Then he’d plot a way to finish Baron off at sea. A mocking smile tugged at Jensen’s lips. Baron saw the gesture but dismissed it. Compared to Natalie’s life, a petty insult wasn’t worth a thought. But if Jensen was here, did that mean he was heading for the open sea too? Baron considered the possibility, his mind already calculating. "Keep an eye on Jensen once we’re out there," he told Rio quietly. "Don’t let him ruin my plan to rescue my wife." At those words, Rio turned his gaze toward Jensen. The moment Jensen noticed, he quickly dropped his hand and replaced it with a polite nod and a more genuine smile.Never fight the officials—that was the rule of businessmen. Rio studied him briefly. Handsome enough, yes, but compared to Baron he fell short. And though Jensen was the president of a listed company, the aura around him was nowhere near Baron’s. Rio hadn’t known Baron long, but he was already certain this man was nothing like the rumors of the Stone family’s useless son-in-law. There was far more to him. Rio only spared Jensen a glance before turning away. "Understood. Whatever you say, Mr. Gunn. Before I left, my father told me to follow your orders." His deference made Baron regard him with a trace of approval. "Thank you." They dropped the matter and continued toward the airport interior. Jensen watched Baron’s self-assured bearing and ground his teeth in rage. "That Baron—always putting on airs! Once I bring Natalie back, I’ll make him regret it." Hansel, still frowning, spoke up. "Mr. Jensen, I truly think Baron isn’t simple. We should dig deeper, investigate from another angle." "Don’t waste time and resources on trash. Right now saving Natalie matters most. Pack up—we’ll follow them inside. The auction is about to start. If we’re late, Natalie will suffer." He threw open the car door and stepped out. Hansel wanted to argue further, but seeing Jensen’s urgency, he swallowed his words.Still, he made a silent note to himself. He would investigate Baron thoroughly later. Behind Baron, Westin had also noticed Jensen. He leaned close and whispered, "Mr. Baron, if Jensen is also heading out to sea, should we stop him?" "No. Let him go." Baron’s answer was firm as he strode into the airport. Jensen, remembering Loretta’s warning, pulled out his phone and called Flynn. Flynn never expected to see Jensen’s name flash across the screen. Noticing Waylon’s glance, he said quickly, "It’s Jensen." "Answer it," Waylon instructed. With Ruby gone, Waylon had no more distractions. Flynn swiped to connect. Jensen’s voice came sharp through the line. "Watch your housekeeper Rachel. She may be plotting against the Stone family. And Natalie’s disappearance—she could be behind that too." He hung up immediately. The warning had been given. Whether the Stones believed it or not was their problem—he had no time to waste on proof. Right now, Natalie’s safety was all that mattered. Flynn listened to the dead line’s beep, his expression grim as he turned to Waylon. "Dad, how does Jensen know Rachel’s involved?" "We’ll sort that out later. The fact he called means Rachel must be moving. Natalie’s disappearance may really be tied to her. What about the hospital’s report?" Flynn glanced at the data just sent over and read it aloud."As you guessed, Dad, the drug levels in Rachel’s body are very low. The doctor said it wasn’t nearly enough to cause unconsciousness."
