The Lycan King’s Legion
Maleah's p.o.v. I had a good night's sleep, which surprised me with the knowledge that Mack is in the Pack-house. I know he wouldn't take a female Pack-member to his bed, but it doesn't mean the female won't try to seduce him, and I hear Fortune softly growl as that thought runs through my mind. Dad had breakfast waiting for me when I came downstairs, and now I am getting dressed for our meeting, a meeting I am not looking forward to. I agree with Fortune that lying to Alpha Dax wasn't an option, not because he would have found out we lied. No, we wanted him to know who was responsible for the demise of Luna Elyse's nightmare, and we will enjoy going after this target with vengeance. "Alpha Dax is here, and he doesn't look happy," Dad says as he peeks around my door. He looks at me as if I have an answer for him, and we all know I have no idea what Dax is so unhappy about. After putting my hair tie at the end of my braid, I follow Dad down the stairs. "Good morning, Maleah. I am sorry for just showing up, but I wanted you to hear this from me. Last night we had a visit from two Elders; they are investigating the murder of Diablo. Alpha Bradley had pointed his finger at us, so they came running. They also looked into your whereabouts, but that was because of your Mother," Alpha Dax says, and I tell him I would like to hear the rest at the Pack-house. I understand why Alpha Bradley would point his finger at our Pack, but I don't understand the comment about my Mother, and with Fortune becoming more agitated by the second, I think it is safer for everyone if Mack and Commander are with us. Until the Mate-bond is formed and we have marked one another, he can't feel everything Fortune and I go through, and if he is close, it will be more obvious for him. Dax guides me out of the house before Dad locks the place up, not that we don't trust our Pack-members, but some are still friends with my Mother, and Dad isn't taking any chances. I am not that worried she will be coming here any time soon; Alpha Bradley will probably understand that the Angel of Death is responsible for his Son's death, and he will understand that he is next on the list. I hear the whispers as we walk towards the Pack-house, and I am glad Dax decided to pick us up to make sure we knew what happened, rather than having to hear it in whispers around the Pack. If I had to believe the whispers I am hearing, one of my Alphas killed Diablo in public and is using his Brothers as his alibi. "Which one of you would be stupid enough?" I ask Dax, and he is laughing his ass off, while Dad is scolding me for even asking the question. The moment we walk into the office, Dax tells them about the whispers and my question. Dominic and Dillon look from Dax to the other, and both point at Dax at the same time. Fortune pushes forward the moment we hear Mack laughing, and I know he is waiting for me to sit down; he wants to make sure he can sit next to us. Unfortunately, my Father makes that impossible as he sits down on the last empty couch, and I have to control myself as I look at Mack's disappointed face. The armchair Mack is standing behind is still empty, and even though I am nervous about it, I walk towards the armchair. I just hope no one is going to make this uncomfortable for me. I just know I need Mack and Commander as close as I can have them, and as I look from the armchair to Mack, he seems to understand what I am planning to do. I see Colter smile as Mack steps around the armchair to sit down, and when he pulls me onto his lap, the entire office goes quiet. "If you want answers, you make sure they keep their mouths shut, Alpha Dax," I say as I look at him. He scratches the back of his head as he looks at the two of us, and then he tells the others to shut it. "I want answers, and if you had the information I have, you would want those answers too," Alpha Dax says as he sits down. "Angel, can you explain what the hell he is talking about?" Mack asks, and Dax is shaking his head. "Mack, I am no Angel, and Alpha Dax knows that," I respond before Dax tells me to drop the title, and the rest join him in demanding I drop the title. "Dax found a file on Alpha Bradley and Diablo in my room when he accompanied me to the lunch date with my Mother. Dax decided we would talk about why I had the file after lunch, and after he would tell me why you hate Alpha Bradley. We didn't have lunch with my Mother, as you all know, but we had lunch in my room, and after lunch, he told me what Alpha Bradley did to Elyse. I could have chosen to lie, and I would have gotten away with it too, but Max and Elyse took care of me when my own Mother wouldn't. Fortune and I decided it was time for the truth to be known, and I told him I received the file after I accepted the assignment to take Alpha Bradley and his Son out," I say. No one says a word as I feel all their eyes on me; my eyes are locked with Mack's eyes, and I have seen a mixture of emotions flashing through them. "I am sorry the Angel of Death beat you to it, Angel," Mack says as he places his forehead against mine. "Fucking Idiot. She is the Angel of Death," Dax exclaims, and now everyone responds, from "No Way In Hell" to "Are You Fucking Kidding Me". "Angel, tell me that that Moron is kidding. You are a designer, not an Assassin. You never had the training you need to do what the Angel of Death did. Don't get me wrong, You and Fortune are amazing, but I have to be honest with you, and I doubt you would be able to pull off the things the Angel of Death has done without the proper training," Mack says. Dad and Colter look at one another before they burst out in laughter. Elyse asks them what is so damn funny, and both start laughing even harder. It takes them a while to calm down, but when they are able to answer the question, I think Elyse wished she had never asked it. "The Council of Elders has always been looking in the right direction, just at the wrong Lycan," Dad says, and I can hear Mack chuckle softly. "You think that is funny, Mack? You better behave yourself, or you might need to sleep with one eye open if you ever cross your Mate," Elyse growls at Mack, but he just shrugs his shoulder. "I know I will screw up more than once, but I will always make sure she knows that I am male, and it is part of my DNA to fuck up," he says as he looks at me.
