He Cheated. I Rose.
"Carolyn, you grew up in the Lewis Manor, living the life of a princess. But me..." Chloe let out an exaggerated sigh, feigning helplessness. "I was supposed to be the legitimate heiress, yet I suffered out in the countryside. We're sisters, aren't we? Doesn't that ever weigh on your conscience?" "I..." Carolyn was lost for words, her eyes wide with disbelief. That lousy Chloe—how dare she talk so brazenly?! Sisters? Who the heck does she think she is?! She's not even worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence! "Carolyn, since you feel so guilty, shouldn't you return my bedroom to me? Oh, and Monique," Chloe pouted, turning her attention to Monique. "How much allowance do you give Carolyn every month? Half a million? A full million?" Her expression turned hopeful. "Monique, you all ignored me for years. How about making it up to me with a lump sum payment—say, eight or ten million dollars? That should keep me going, right?"Monique's face darkened. She wanted to order the housekeeper to throw Chloe out immediately. How could this girl have the audacity to be so shameless? She actually had the nerve to demand her room back and now she wanted money too? Disgusting! She wished Chloe would just vanish. "Starla, you've served the Lewis family for many years. I've been away so long, I wonder if my mother's jewelry is still here. She told me before she passed that those pieces were meant for me. Could you please check and pack them up for me? I'd like to take them with me." Chloe spotted Starla nearby and addressed her directly. "Ms. Lewis, those items..." Starla began, casting a nervous glance toward Monique. Chloe followed her gaze to Monique, feigning confusion. "Wait, did Monique take my mother's jewelry?" Monique's expression soured further. But Chloe wasn't finished. She pretended to be shocked. "Monique, you would never do something so low, right? That jewelry belonged to my mother. She wanted me to have it as part of my wedding gift. It wasn't Monique's. Taking something that isn't yours without permission is called theft." Monique restrained herself from lunging at Chloe. She forced a tight smile. "Chloe, why would I take your mother's belongings? After she passed away, I've been taking good care of all her things this entire time!" "If that's truly the case, then please hand over my mother's jewelry to me now," Chloe said, extending her hand expectantly, waiting for Monique to comply. "Chloe, even if you were still Mrs. Myers, you couldn't be so reckless with money. Does the Myers family know you behave this way?" Monique tried to steer the conversation back to Chloe's extravagance, using the Myers name as a shield. "You've been married into the Myers family for six years, yet you haven't changed one bit. Still acting like a country bumpkin, with no grace..." "That's enough!" Scott slammed his hand on the table, his anger boiling over. He glared at Chloe, his eyes filled with icy disdain. "Chloe Lewis, what do you need your mother's jewelry for? Planning to pawn it for cash? How did the Lewis family end up with a child like you?" "I grew up in the countryside, raised by the neighbors," Chloe replied softly, her tone factual. Scott saw her indifferent attitude and flushed crimson with rage. "You... you... You are utterly uncouth! I don't have a daughter like you! So unruly—might as well say I never had you!" He thought about Chloe's divorce from Arthur, and how the Lewis family would lose its valuable connection to the Myers family, making future business ventures much harder. This thought fueled his fury further. "Chloe, you've truly disappointed your father. How could you act this way?" Monique sighed, her eyes brimming with unconcealed contempt. "Mr. Lewis, if you find me such an embarrassment, I'll leave. From this day forward, I want nothing more to do with this family.""Get out!" Scott shouted, so enraged he nearly stamped his foot. "Fine, I'm leaving. I never wanted to be here in the first place!" Chloe declared, turning to go. Carolyn watched Chloe prepare to leave and couldn't contain her glee. But before her smile could fully form, Chloe spun back around and held out her hand to both Scott and Monique. "Empty words mean nothing. I want it in writing! That way you can't go back on your word later." Monique almost laughed aloud when she heard this. Chloe, you really are a fool. She had no idea what she was truly asking for, still acting smug, demanding a written agreement. If they actually put it on paper, Chloe would be permanently severed from the Lewis family, even in death. She would have no claim to anything. Monique had been scheming for years on how to strip Chloe of her inheritance rights, and now fate was delivering the solution right into her hands. She wasn't bullying Chloe—Chloe was the one demanding a written agreement to sever all ties with the Lewis family. Scott was already furious, but when Chloe insisted on a written contract, he completely lost control. He immediately summoned the family lawyer. Right there on the spot, they drafted a formal document officially severing the father-daughter relationship.
