He Cheated. I Rose.
"Can you be a hundred percent sure your kids are telling the truth? What if what they saw was exactly what someone wanted them to see?" A heavy silence fell over the parents. Hearing it stated so plainly left them feeling cornered, with no good response. None of them had actually witnessed anything firsthand. It was way too hasty to accuse Robert of intentionally hurting someone, just based on a few words from their kids. "Even if that's the case, you still need to prove your son didn't hurt anyone, right? You can't just keep throwing accusations around. What's the point? Are you going to accuse Mrs. Carter next?" "You know what? You're absolutely right. I am going to call out Mrs. Carter." Chloe turned her sharp gaze to Tracy, who had been observing from the sidelines. "Mrs. Carter, you're the head of Eaton Kindergarten, and if I'm not mistaken, you also sit on the board, right? Have you forgotten what Eaton is supposed to stand for?" Tracy's face tightened. She looked as if she'd swallowed something unpleasant and couldn't get the words out. "You were so quick to pass judgment and expel a child on the spot. Did you forget that expelling a student requires a formal review and approval from the board?" Tracy stared at Chloe, momentarily stunned. She hadn't expected Chloe to be aware of that internal policy. "I... I..." "And all of you." Chloe's gaze swept over the other parents. "You think having your kids at Eaton Kindergarten makes you superior to everyone else?" "Mommy, don't waste your breath on these people. We already decided we're leaving this place anyway." Robert piped up, his eyes landing on Jenarth with a knowing smirk. "My dear Jenarth, I warned you not to play mind games with me. It's useless."Jenarth instinctively took a step back upon hearing Robert's words. A flicker of panic crossed his face before he could hide it, but Robert caught it. Robert started forward, but Chloe reached out and gently pulled him back. "Mommy, this whole mess is because of me. If someone wants to frame me, let me handle it my own way, okay?" Robert looked up at her, his expression suddenly earnest and pleading. "Please?" Chloe studied her son's determined face. She could tell he was genuinely furious. And she knew his temperament better than anyone. "Alright. But don't make the situation worse," Chloe agreed softly, releasing his hand and taking a step back to give him space. The onlookers watched, bewildered. What was Robert about to do? And what was Chloe thinking, allowing it? Robert walked straight up to Jenarth, who was trying hard to maintain his composure. "Robert!" Jenarth said, his voice unsteady.Robert smiled at him, a deceptively gentle expression. "Jenarth, do you really want to be friends with me?" Jenarth gulped nervously with Robert standing so close. Part of him wanted to run to Arthur for protection, but Robert's sudden, pleasant tone confused him. Was this a trick to win him over? Were they getting desperate, trying to use him to get back into Arthur's good graces? "Of course I want to be friends with you, Robert," Jenarth said softly, his voice pitched so everyone could hear. "But I don't want to be friends with you at all!" Robert's voice was bright, clear, and utterly firm. "You're a nasty piece of work. Who in their right mind would want to be friends with someone like you?" "Robert... you..." Jenarth stared, utterly shocked. He couldn't believe Robert would say something so blunt and cruel right to his face. The others were equally stunned. Was this Robert's way of handling things? Just hurling insults? How ridiculous! Jennifer was furious to see Robert verbally attacking her son right in front of everyone. She clutched Arthur's arm. "Arthur, did you hear that? He's tearing Jenarth apart right here. Who knows what he does when no one is watching." No sooner had the words left her mouth than Jennifer's legs seemed to give way, and she collapsed dramatically. "Jennifer!" Arthur caught her, his voice full of concern. "Jennifer, are you alright?" Jennifer fluttered her eyes open weakly in Arthur's arms, her voice choked with tears. "Arthur, I'm fine... I'm just... so heartbroken. Jenarth has never had anyone truly care for him. My poor boy, bullied on his very first day of school. He's so young, yet he has to carry such a heavy burden. I've failed him..."
