He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 46 Rushed to the Scene

A gentle smile touched Jennifer's lips as she approached Arthur. She lifted the ladle and carefully filled a bowl with soup for him. "Give it a try, Arthur. Tell me what you think. I can always adjust the seasoning." Her eyes sparkled with anticipation. The truth was, she'd discreetly ordered these soups from a master chef at an upscale hotel while pretending to do grocery shopping. They were guaranteed to be delicious. Arthur stared at the steaming soup. Though it looked and smelled perfect, he felt no desire to eat. "Go on, Arthur, taste it!" Jennifer urged beside him. He lifted the spoon reluctantly. The thick, creamy chicken soup felt heavy on his tongue—too rich for his liking. Suddenly, he found himself remembering Chloe's clear chicken soup—light, delicately flavored, and never greasy. "Well?" Jennifer's voice broke through his memories. Forcing a smile, he met her expectant gaze. "Not bad at all." He lowered his head and took several more sips. Before long, half the bowl was empty. Pleased with his response, Jennifer began serving Arthur more dishes. Her staff had prepared everything— she'd only needed to add the final touches to make them seem homemade. Watching Arthur sample each dish, Jennifer finally felt satisfied. She returned to her seat. The three of them—Jennifer, Jenarth, and Arthur—now sat together at the table. To any observer, they appeared to be the ideal happy family. The scene was picture-perfect. Arthur shifted uncomfortably. This family meal felt wrong somehow. In his mind's eye, he could almost see Chloe sitting across from him, with Robert in the adjacent chair. How long had it been since they'd shared a proper meal together? Chloe and Robert had been gone for days. Arthur kept reminding himself that this was her own doing. She'd brought this on herself. Why should he care what happened to her? Once Chloe ran out of money, she'd come crawling back. And when she did, he'd make sure she understood her place. The Myers family wasn't some revolving door she could come and go from as she pleased. Arthur tried to concentrate on his food, but his thoughts kept drifting. The mounting frustration suddenly shattered when his phone rang. Donald's name flashed on the screen. Arthur's expression tightened. Was there news? He'd ordered Donald to monitor Chloe closely and report any developments immediately. He smirked to himself. Chloe, already causing trouble again after just a few days? "Report," Arthur answered sharply. Then he suddenly shot to his feet. "What? An accident?"Jennifer had been quietly eating, but at Arthur's outburst she looked up, immediately noticing the panic on his face. "I'm on my way." Hanging up, Arthur grabbed his jacket and rushed out without another word. "Arthur!" Jennifer called after him. He paused briefly, glancing back. "Take care of Jenarth at home. There's an emergency with Chloe." Without waiting for a response, he left. Jennifer stood motionless, watching him leave. As soon as he heard about Chloe's accident, the worry was etched all over his face, impossible to hide. So Arthur still cared about Chloe. What did it matter? Chloe's fate was already sealed. Go ahead, Arthur! By now, Chloe's probably already dead. You're just rushing to see her corpse. She'd never imagined Madilyn would harbor such hatred for Chloe. She hadn't even needed to lift a finger. Madilyn had taken out Chloe all by herself. Perfect! Now, nothing stood in her way. Madilyn had no choice but to cooperate. They were allies now, whether Madilyn liked it or not. Arthur sped toward the hospital. Donald had texted the address immediately. When Arthur saw the St. Mary's Hospital sign, he froze. The most expensive hospital in Capaville? Since when could Chloe afford this place? He didn't have time to wonder. He rushed inside, searched around, and finally made it to the VIP suite on the top floor. Chloe had been in a car accident. Visions of twisted metal and blood flashed through his mind. His steps grew unsteady. Chloe was injured! The thought echoed relentlessly in his mind. With trembling hands, he pushed the door open, only to find Chloe and Robert cozied up together, happily sharing dessert. Arthur stood frozen in the doorway, then finally managed to choke out, "Chloe..."
