He Cheated. I Rose.
As she spoke, her tears fell even harder, and Madilyn's voice dissolved into another fit of sobs. Seeing her so distraught, several people stepped forward to offer comfort. "Mrs. Madilyn Myers, we understand your grief, but we must face reality. If Charles could see you like this, it would only trouble him." "Charles has just regained consciousness. He'll be fine. Arthur, you believe that too, don't you? Your grandfather will pull through," Madilyn cried, reaching out to clutch Arthur's arm. "Arthur, he loves you more than anyone!" "Mom, Grandpa will be alright," Arthur murmured, attempting to soothe her. "Charles had, in fact, finalized his will," Joel interjected, stepping forward. "He wished to review the details of the company's shareholding structure. I went to organize the documents, and Kevin remained with Charles to personally transcribe the terms as he dictated them." He then gestured toward Kevin, who stood in a corner of the hallway. All eyes turned to the lawyer. Under their collective gaze, Kevin began, "Charles established three primary clauses in his will." Hearing this, everyone straightened up, focusing intently on what was to come. Feeling the weight of their attention, Kevin slowly produced the document he had been carrying—a drafted will not yet formally notarized. "Arthur, your grandfather..." Madilyn whispered, squeezing Arthur's hand tightly, her voice trembling with feigned anxiety. "You've given so much to Myers Group over the years. I'm certain Charles recognized that. Your name must be in the will." "Whether my name is there or not, I will respect Grandpa's wishes, whatever they may be," Arthur replied simply. He looked at Kevin and swallowed hard. Kevin opened the document before the assembled group. "Clause One," he read aloud in a clear voice. "The fifty-one percent shareholding under Charles' name is bequeathed in its entirety to Arthur Myers." A murmur rippled through the elders. All eyes settled on Arthur. He was the current head of Myers Group, Charles' only grandson. It was only natural for him to be the primary heir. That Charles would leave his controlling stake to Arthur was expected and largely acceptable to those present. Any minor objections were tempered by the logic of the situation. Upon hearing this, Madilyn gripped Arthur's arm with apparent excitement. "Arthur, your grandfather has been so good to you. You must lead Myers Group well and honor his legacy. Do you understand?""Mom, there's no need to say that. As long as I am with Myers Group, I will dedicate myself to it completely," Arthur answered solemnly. To the onlookers, Madilyn's words were precisely what a devoted family matriarch should say at such a moment, earning her further sympathy and approval. "And the second clause?" someone prompted. Kevin glanced down at the document, then back at the expectant faces. "The second clause... The deed and full ownership of Myers Estate are bequeathed to Mrs. Madilyn Myers." A small, sharp gasp escaped Madilyn first. "Charles..." she choked out, bringing a hand to her mouth as if overwhelmed by disbelief. "Arthur, am I dreaming? The family estate... Charles left it to me." Her voice broke into a sob. "Charles, thank you!" She turned toward the closed operating room doors and gave a slight, reverent bow. "The third clause," Kevin continued. "All of Charles' real estate holdings and personal assets are placed under the management and trusteeship of Mrs. Madilyn Myers. No member of the Myers family or Myers Group shall raise any objection to this arrangement." The elders stared at Kevin, then exchanged uneasy glances. After a moment of heavy silence, one of them spoke up. "Is that all?" Kevin closed the folder and shook his head. "That is the entirety of the instructions Charles personally dictated to me. I merely did not anticipate... such a tragic accident would occur so soon afterward." A profound quiet fell over the hallway as everyone digested the terms of the will. Charles had entrusted the management of his entire personal fortune to Madilyn. No one could quite fathom his reasoning. However, Charles had been the family patriarch. His decisions, made while of sound mind, were his own. The elders might have had private reservations, but with the will now stated, further debate was pointless. "Charles' will, as stated, is final. The relevant notarization procedures will follow in due course," Joel stated formally. The somber expressions around him confirmed what his words implied—Charles, lying in the operating room, was not expected to recover. It seemed funeral preparations would need to begin within days. Despite Arthur's attempts to contain the news, word of Charles' sudden, critical condition and grim prognosis spread swiftly. Within hours, it was trending on social media and making headlines across business news outlets.
