He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 295 The Real Savior

Madilyn stood frozen until Arthur was completely out of sight. Only then did it hit her—he was really turning against her now. He was doing the exact opposite of everything she wanted. He couldn't lose his position as the CEO of Myers Group. And as for Charles... he'd better not get in Arthur's way. Otherwise... Madilyn's jaw tightened, her expression turning grim. That secret had to stay buried. ***** In the ICU room... Blaine personally checked Charles over from head to toe. He'd been waiting outside the door the moment Arthur's press conference started. Charles had seen the live stream, of course. He knew exactly what was going on. He insisted the nurse call Arthur. He wanted to see him. Right away. He got so worked up he started struggling to breathe. They had to perform emergency treatment. Blaine, who'd been standing by, rushed in right away. Soon, Charles's breathing steadied and his vital signs returned to normal. "I knew you'd get worked up, so I waited outside. Any later, and you might've been a goner," Blaine said, pulling the quilt up for him. He stood by the bed and added proudly, "Your body's been through a lot. The fact you woke up at all shows how good I am at my job." Charles just stared, not daring to make a sound for a while. This Blaine was the world-class neurosurgeon Arthur had spent tens of millions to track down. He had literally dragged him back from death's door. Charles felt grateful, but every word out of Blaine's mouth sounded like a blunt jab. No filter whatsoever. "Alright, rest up now. Don't let your emotions run wild," Blaine went on. "Your grandson brought this on himself! Chloe deserves way better. As for him... tsk, even throwing him in the trash would still be an eyesore." He shook his head, packed his tools, and turned to leave. "Wait... what do you mean by that?" Charles struggled to sit up. But he was still so weak. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't rise. Blaine glanced back at the flustered old man, gave a faint smile, turned gracefully, and walked out. Only then did Charles realize there was more going on—Blaine had deliberately taken a dig at Arthur. What kind of doctor talked like that? Something wasn't right. "Come back... Explain yourself! What's really going on?" Charles fought to get up and even tried to swing his legs off the bed. He was about to fall when a soft voice came from the doorway. "Mr. Myers!" The voice was gentle. Charles froze, his movements stopping as he slowly looked toward the door. Chloe walked in. Blaine, who was supposed to have left, leaned back inside, politely nodded to Charles, then closed the door with a slight smile. Watching this, Charles was stunned all over again. "Chloe!" His voice trembled as Chloe came closer. It took him a long moment to speak, "I... I let you down." "I should be the one apologizing. I disappointed you. Arthur and I are divorced." Chloe pulled a chair over and sat by his bed. Seeing how calm she looked, Charles lowered his voice. "Who is this Jennifer? What is she to Arthur? He's really going to marry her now? After all the terrible things she's done? That brat—right now I feel like skinning him alive." Hearing that, Chloe finally smiled. A soft breeze rustled the curtain beside the bed. The only sound left in the room was the steady hum of medical equipment. After a long silence, Chloe spoke again. "You remember back then, don't you? I was hurt, and I ended up saving you by accident. Later, you helped me so I made it." She sighed softly. "But before I pulled you out, I saved someone else." Charles watched her quietly. "Who?" "The one you care about most." The smile on Chloe's lips deepened. "Too bad he never knew it was me who saved him." "Wait..." Charles understood. She meant that good-for-nothing grandson of his, Arthur. "Arthur thought it was Jennifer. From then on, she became his beloved—the one he'd protect with his life," Chloe said, her smile fading. "Are all those rich CEOs on TV this dumb? Can't even recognize the person who saved them." Charles was lost for words. "In dramas, they break up, make up, and end up together. So boring, right? This is my story, Chloe's story. It's not some TV show."
