He Cheated. I Rose.
Scott's hand tightened under the table. With all the shareholders watching, he had no choice but to explain. "There's been a change in how Lewis Group's shares are split. Thirty percent of my shares... they belonged to my late wife. Before she passed, she left a will. She wanted all her shares to go to Chloe. Now that Chloe's back, those shares are rightfully hers." Chloe Lewis was here! So the Lewis family's oldest daughter was real! The shareholders looked shocked. Years ago, there were rumors about a missing daughter being found—but no one ever confirmed it. Most thought Scott was just keeping his precious girl hidden away at home. So he was finally bringing her out now? "Mr. Lewis, your daughter is such a beauty.""No doubt about that. But thirty percent? You're really playing favorites!" The compliments started rolling in. Each one felt like a sharp little stab to Carolyn. Those words should have been for her—back when Scott was supposed to introduce her properly. Instead, they were praising that Chloe. How could this happen! How did Chloe end up with thirty percent? Thinking about how she and her mother only had a tiny piece of the company made her blood boil. Just as the room buzzed with praise, Chloe raised her hand. "Sorry to cut in, everyone. Mr. Lewis and I have no personal relationship. I simply hold thirty percent of Lewis Group. I'm only here today as a shareholder—here for the meeting." She spoke calmly, a faint smile resting on her lips the whole time. Like it was just a simple fact. Scott felt awkward. Chloe was his daughter. So was Carolyn. He once imagined the two of them getting along, standing by his side at the company—like his right and left hands. Now? Things were just a mess. Chloe was a shareholder now, holding Kristina's shares. She was the largest shareholder in the group. Even he had to be careful what he said around her—especially in front of all these shareholders. "Chloe is now a major shareholder and will be part of Lewis Group moving forward. Let's all get to know each other. Since we're here for a shareholders' meeting, if you have thoughts on the company's development, please speak freely." Scott forced a smile, trying to steer things back to business. The company had been losing money. This couldn't continue. Lewis Group couldn't just fade away. Now that Chloe was a shareholder, he honestly wanted to see how she'd handle the situation. Scott threw the topic out there, sat down, and prepared to begin. After some brief nods among the shareholders, the meeting was ready to start.Carolyn was growing impatient. Scott still hadn't told everyone he was making her a senior exec, and now Chloe had barged in to cause trouble. Damn it. Just wait. If Chloe thought she could take Lewis Group from her, she had another thing coming. Carolyn glanced around. All the shareholders had taken their seats. Only Scott's assistant and the lawyer Zachary were still standing—and her, stuck there looking completely out of place. There was one seat left in the corner. Carolyn hated the idea of sitting there, but she had no other choice. She clicked her heels toward the empty spot. Just as she pulled the chair out to sit, Chloe's cool voice cut through the air. "Since we're starting the shareholders' meeting, all irrelevant personnel please leave." Chloe's gaze swept across the room. Zachary smiled, gave an elegant nod to everyone, then walked out with an easy grin. Scott's assistant leaned closer for his approval. After a quick nod from Scott, the assistant gathered the files and headed out. "Alright, let's get this meeting started—" Scott began, but Chloe cut him off again. "Are you sure everyone irrelevant has left?" Scott glanced at Chloe and gave a slight nod. "Everyone here holds shares in the group. Those who don't are key senior staff. They've always sat in on these meetings." Chloe smiled faintly, her eyes shifting to Carolyn huddled in the corner. "Before coming today, I took a good look at Lewis Group's reports and the shareholder list. If I'm not mistaken, Carolyn's name wasn't on it, was it?" Carolyn's face darkened. Chloe was clearly coming for her. "That's pretty direct, Mr. Lewis. Bringing your daughter to a shareholders' meeting—what's the plan here?" Chloe kept her tone light, her gaze steady on Scott. "Trying to slip her into the company?"
