He Cheated. I Rose.
"Why the attitude? I did exactly what you asked. I heard every word they said. Took plenty of photos too. I'll send them over now. About the payment... should we handle that first? Transfer the money, and you'll get the photos right away." ***** When Arthur rushed to the hospital, Donald was already waiting at the entrance with the Myers Group finance team. "Mr. Myers, Dr. Palma is still in his medical review meeting. It should end in about ten minutes. He might leave right after. I've arranged with the hospital to help you get a private moment with him," Donald reported quickly as he approached. "Do whatever it takes to keep him here," Arthur ordered, then practically sprinted into Central Hospital. Just then, Blaine walked out of the conference room, escorted by the hospital director toward the dining area."Dr. Palma," Arthur said, stepping forward to block his path. When Blaine saw Arthur, his eyes flickered briefly, but his expression quickly turned stern. "What do you want?" Noting his unfriendly demeanor, Arthur moved aside to give him space. "Hello, Dr. Palma. I'm Arthur, current CEO of Myers Group. Could I have a moment of your time in private?" Blaine glanced at him, barely concealing a spark of interest before clearing his throat. "You have three minutes." Arthur's heart leaped. He thanked him immediately. The director led the others away, leaving the wide corridor empty except for Arthur and Blaine. Arthur didn't dare waste a second. He pulled out a thick folder. "Dr. Palma, my grandfather's condition is critical. He's been in a coma. There's a chance he could wake up with the right procedure. Would you please review his case and see if—""Twenty-one million," Blaine cut him off, his tone firm. Arthur had prepared a long speech and was ready to offer anything. But before he could even start, Blaine had already named his price. Twenty-one million? "Dr. Palma—" "I'll do the surgery. My condition is twenty-one million," Blaine stated bluntly. "Myers Group has a reputation for being generous. I've just launched an international charity—building hospitals in conflict zones. That's the exact amount I'm short. Since you need my help, I'll be direct." Hearing this, Arthur was almost dizzy with relief. Blaine was famous for being hard to get hold of. But now he was this easy to work with? This was completely unlike what he'd expected. Before, he'd tried as hard as he could just to get Blaine to notice him. Now the man was being this direct? "No problem, Dr. Palma. I'll have the company transfer the funds. You'll be satisfied, I promise." Arthur held out the medical records. "Please take a look. This is my grandfather's case summary." Blaine didn't accept the file. He simply said coolly, "Not necessary." "Uh..." Arthur frowned. That didn't feel right. How could anyone plan a surgery without reviewing the case? Blaine gave him a sidelong glance. "If you came to find me, you already know the truth: if I can't perform this surgery, no one in the world can." He'd already analyzed Charles' case down to the smallest detail—he could practically recite it from memory in front of Chloe. Arthur fell silent. He couldn't argue—this man was indeed his last hope. Still, everything was moving a little too smoothly today. It felt almost staged, like he was being manipulated, but he couldn't pinpoint how."Dr. Palma, I'm placing all my hopes in you." Arthur turned to the finance team. "You heard him. Make it happen. Now." The finance staff nodded frantically. No one dared delay something this important. "Thank you, Dr. Palma!" Arthur bowed deeply, a full ninety-degree bend, respect evident in every line of his body. "Mm." Blaine gave a low grunt in response. Arthur turned and hurried away. He was going to be tied up next, so he held off on company matters for the time being. Nothing else mattered—only his grandfather counted right then. Whether Charles woke up or not rested entirely in Blaine's hands. Arthur was desperate to bring Charles back. Chloe listened to him more than anyone, and Charles doted on her most. If Grandpa finds out we're divorced, he'll be furious, won't he? If he knowsmy momis pushing me to marry Jennifer, he'll never allow it, right? If he intervenes, will Chloe reconsider? If Chloe came back, Arthur would give up the entire Myers family for her. He just wanted to make things right. As for Jennifer... the thought of her made his jaw tighten. In the end, he had failed her.
