He Cheated. I Rose.
Arthur could've gotten married ten times over—it was no skin off her back. She'd said it before—they could do whatever they pleased, just keep her name out of their mouths. She wanted no part of their world. She wasn't bothering them, so why couldn't they just let her be? If they were so set on messing up their own lives, fine. She wasn't gonna stand in their way. Did Arthur even know about that news piece? Sure, he could be pretty clueless at times, but this was just ridiculous. Chloe's face went cold. It wouldn't be long before the media jumped all over this story. She'd warned them—don't push it. But they never learned. With Arthur calling the shots, the Myers family was really headed downhill. And Charles's health kept getting worse. She had to move faster. Zachary had already reached out to a top doctor overseas. Once they locked in the schedule, Charles would get the surgery he needed. Whether Arthur agreed or not, she was going to make sure it happened. Then her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen—Eugene. Her expression tightened. She hadn't expected him to call this fast. She picked up. Before she could speak, his low voice came through. "Some trash is asking for a beating. You want me to take care of it?" "If I needed help with something this small," she replied evenly, "I'd be pretty pathetic, don't you think? Let's see how far they're willing to go." "I'm here. Anything you need—just say the word," Eugene said. Then he added, softly, "And I mean anything." "Mhm." She hung up quietly. Not long after, Robert called. Then Zachary. Even Brian checked in. Looked like everyone had seen the news. Calling her a homewrecker! This brilliant plan had to be Jennifer or Madilyn's idea, right? A few clever words, and they thought they could throw all the blame on her? Make her the villain, while Jennifer played the innocent victim? Dream on. They should take a good look in the mirror. If they thought cheap tricks like that could scare her, then she wouldn't be Chloe. But before she dealt with that trashy news, she had something much more important to do. ***** Arthur left the office and got into his car. His phone started buzzing endlessly with messages. At first, he thought it was something urgent from work. When he opened them, they were all congratulations.Senior executives, shareholders, business partners—even old college friends. A flood of "Happy newlyweds" left him completely confused. Newlyweds? He'd gotten married six years ago. When he married Chloe, it was kept quiet. Only a few people knew about it. Sending wedding wishes now? That made no sense. Soon, Arthur's face turned stormy. People started sharing news links in the group chats, teasing him for keeping it so secret. They said his son was already that old, and he was only now making things official. Arthur opened one of the articles and froze. He and Jennifer were getting engaged? The date was already set? Then why, as one of the people involved, did he know nothing about it? "Donald, what the hell is this news?" Arthur snapped at his assistant in the passenger seat. Donald looked up, met Arthur's eyes in the rearview mirror, hesitated, and finally said, "Mr. Myers, I thought you had approved it. The news was released with your mother's approval. I just didn't expect the public to drag Ms. Lewis into it. Now it's getting out of control." Arthur's face turned completely dark. How could his mother do something like this? When did he and Jennifer ever agree to get married? What was she thinking? And why was Jennifer going along with it? Arthur gripped his phone tightly. "Home. Step on it!" he ordered the driver. The car sped toward the Myers Manor. Arthur sat in silence, his eyes growing colder by the minute. He needed to get back and ask his mother face to face why she had done this. The car hurried all the way back to the Myers Manor. Arthur had just stepped out when he saw staff carrying piles of items inside—big and small—even brand-new bedding sets. Seeing this, Arthur strode straight into the villa."Mr. Myers!" a maid greeted him respectfully. Arthur paid her no mind and stormed in. There, he found Madilyn overseeing the staff, pointing to spots around the room. "Be careful. Don't damage anything. Keep your eyes open. These items are expensive." "Mom, what are you doing?" Arthur's sharp voice cut through the room. The lively living room fell silent. Madilyn turned, saw Arthur's angry face, and let out a snort. "What does it look like? I'm preparing for your wedding."
