He Cheated. I Rose.
Chloe arrived exactly on time. From collecting the divorce papers at the Courthouse to now, half an hour had passed without her uttering a single word. She hadn't even removed her sunglasses. Arthur smirked, his eyes flashing with derision. Having second thoughts now, is she? Coming to beg for forgiveness? Too late—the papers are signed. I'm not about to give her another chance. After more than six years in Myers Manor, he had shown her every ounce of patience he possessed. She should have learned gratitude by now. Yet here she was, stirring up drama and demanding a divorce over and over—pushing her luck to the absolute limit. Were those sunglasses hiding eyes swollen from crying all night after she learned the divorce could be finalized early yesterday? Probably too ashamed to show her face. The notion drew a cold snort from him. "Thank you for your assistance." Arthur maintained his polite and considerate demeanor, expressing gratitude to the staff while completely ignoring Chloe standing nearby. Compared to Arthur's visibly lifted spirits, Chloe remained far more composed. She kept her sunglasses on, her expression unreadable as she examined the divorce papers in her hand. After verifying its authenticity, she nearly laughed aloud in relief. But remembering they were still in the Courthouse—where divorce wasn't exactly a celebratory matter—she schooled her features into neutrality. Chloe took out her phone, snapped a photo of the divorce papers, and allowed a faint smile to touch her lips before turning to leave. She had just reached the entrance when Arthur's voice called out sharply from behind. "Chloe!"His tone was edged with clear irritation. Chloe paused and glanced back at the man striding toward her but offered no response. "You chose this path yourself. Once you step outside, don't ever refer to yourself as Mrs. Myers again." Arthur stared intently at her, searching for any hint of regret, helplessness, or even tears. That would have been satisfying. Unfortunately, he waited in vain—her expression revealed nothing. "Chloe, now that the divorce is finalized, do you regret it?" He could no longer restrain himself and voiced the question directly. "Regret?" Chloe tilted her head in apparent confusion. "Mr. Myers, I assumed I ceased to be Mrs. Myers the moment I walked out of your home." Arthur felt as if the air had been knocked from his lungs. What had gotten into her? She was behaving like a completely different person. This wasn't like her at all!So sharp-tongued! She had shut him down so effectively he couldn't even form a retort. Just as Arthur struggled to find words to reprimand her, a gentle voice interjected. "Arthur!" Jennifer appeared, holding Jenarth's hand, right before them. Arthur's dark mood lifted at the sight of Jennifer. His tone softened immediately. "Jennifer, what brings you here? Weren't you taking Jenarth for a hospital check-up?" "Jenarth was worried about you. As soon as the appointment ended, he insisted we come find you." Jennifer guided Jenarth toward Arthur. Her gaze fell upon the divorce papers in Chloe's hand, and she bit her lip, adopting a helpless expression. "Ms. Lewis, you're far too impulsive. Arthur is such a wonderful man—how could you simply divorce him like this?""If he's so wonderful and you admire him so much, why don't you marry him yourself?" Chloe cast a cold glance toward Arthur. "The City Hall is still open. If you're in a hurry, you'd better get moving!" "I... Ms. Lewis, Arthur and I are completely innocent. I've always respected him as an older brother. How could you suggest such a thing?" Jennifer looked awkwardly toward Arthur. "Arthur, I truly..." "Chloe, whatever issues exist between us, keep others out of it. You chose divorce, so don't come crawling back to beg. I warned you—once you leave, you're no longer part of my family. Don't even think about leveraging our name or resources ever again." Arthur's voice turned sharp. "The only remaining connection between us is Robert. I'll respect his choice. If he wishes to return to the Myers family, you cannot stop him. If you fail in his upbringing or compromise his education, my lawyers will be in touch." Arthur was furious. He had been restraining himself, but now his anger boiled over. Chloe merely shrugged. "Arthur, are you hard of hearing, or just forgetful? Didn't I already make myself clear? I, Chloe, will never beg you for anything in this lifetime. You're already part of my past. Thanks for the reminder—there's truly nothing left between us. You're the powerful CEO now, so don't you ever come begging me! I'd consider it terribly unlucky!" Arthur stood frozen, barely containing his rage. Sure, their emotional connection had never been deep—perhaps almost nonexistent—but they had lived together for six years. And they had... well, they shared a child. Six years as a couple—even without love, shouldn't there at least be some semblance of mutual regard?
