He Cheated. I Rose.
"I have a project. Shall we give it a try?" Chloe suggested. She met Landon's curious gaze with a small smile. She'd already decided to put money into Oralia's film. None of the folks here were short on cash. Getting more funding for Oralia's film would be a breeze. ***** Meanwhile, the internet went wild. Arthur was the media's new favorite target. He ended up shutting his phone off completely. Ever since the scandal broke, his phone hadn't stopped buzzing. He tried everything to bury the story, but nothing worked. Public curiosity was just too strong. It was too late to stop it now. Everything was spinning out of control. With the whole internet talking about it, there was no way Chloe hadn't heard. Even if she'd somehow missed it, people around her definitely wouldn't have.By now, Chloe must know. She might even have long been disgusted by all those hyped-up reports. What was he supposed to do now? How could he ever explain this to Chloe? He'd slept with Jennifer. He hadn't been in his right mind. He'd done something awful without even being fully aware. His head had been a complete mess, like he was stuck in a dream. In that dream, he thought he was with Chloe. Still hungover, he'd mistakenly taken Jennifer—who'd appeared beside him—for Chloe. It was only because he'd been overcome with passion that those things had happened. If he told Chloe this, would she believe him? She wouldn't. She probably hated his guts now. Arthur stumbled back to the Myers Manor like a ghost. He'd told Donald to send Jennifer away—whatever it took, get her to Eldermar. Right now, he didn't want to see anyone. He ignored every call and refused to answer the door. All he wanted was to collapse on his bed and sleep forever. "Daddy Arthur's back!" The voice made Arthur freeze. Wasn't that Jenarth? Why was he here at the Myers Manor? Before he could figure it out, another voice chimed in. "Arthur, you're home!" Arthur stood completely still, staring at the two people in the living room—Jennifer and Jenarth. Both of them were here. Jennifer wore a simple white dress. Jenarth was in a little suit, looking cute and well-behaved. In that moment, Arthur felt his heart sink. Why were they here? Did Donald mess up?"You two..." Arthur stared, lost for words. Donald was getting sloppy. He paid him good money—never in a million years had he expected him to mess up a simple job like this. "Arthur, I'm sorry. I came back on my own," Jennifer said softly, stepping forward a little when she saw him frozen. She lowered her head, her voice thick with helplessness. "Sorry, Daddy Arthur," Jenarth whispered, sounding nervous and looking so sad it was heartbreaking. Hearing them, Arthur was at a loss for words. Once, he might have smoothed things over with money—easy, straightforward. But now, staring at the hurt etched across Jennifer's face, he felt only a bone-deep tiredness, like he was trapped in a web he couldn't untangle. He'd always felt he owed Jennifer. She'd been fragile, her health shaky at best, and he'd never shaken the belief that it was all because she'd saved his life once. No matter what, he felt bound to look after her. But after what happened between them, everything felt different. He felt guilty. And he knew, deep down, what he really wanted. He couldn't love Jennifer. In his heart, Chloe's presence never faded. He just hadn't realized it before. From the day his grandfather, Charles, brought Chloe to him and said she was his future wife— He remembered her. He just never accepted it, thinking his life shouldn't be decided so easily by Charles. Who would have thought that everything Charles did for him was actually the best path? Now, he'd lost any chance to make things right. If Chloe saw him now, she'd probably be disgusted. "Jennifer... I'm sorry," Arthur began, his voice low. He was about to ask Jennifer to leave when Madilyn's voice came from the top of the stairs. "I brought them back."Arthur looked up at his mother's stern face and froze. He hadn't expected her to say that. "Arthur, the men in our family own up to their actions," Madilyn stated coldly. "You and Jennifer are basically a done deal now. The whole internet is buzzing over your pictures. Do you think hiding from the press will fix anything?" Arthur knew exactly what she meant. Right now, he didn't want to face the media, or anyone else—especially not the two people standing in front of him. "For the sake of the Myers family, you need to do the right thing. Stuff about Jennifer and Jenarth was exposed on the internet before. What's done is done. Pick a date and announce the wedding." Madilyn came downstairs and sat gracefully on the sofa. Her tone left no room for argument.
