He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 211 The Roadside Confrontation

Seeing the flood of heart emojis, Chloe smiled. She could easily imagine the huge grin on Oralia's face on the other end of the tablet. When it came to investing, the key lay in choosing what she truly liked. Since she was genuinely interested in this script, putting more money into it wasn't a big deal. Chloe called Leo and instructed him to handle the follow-up—to add another 50 million directly to Rebirth's budget. Right after she hung up, her phone rang again. The caller ID showed a string of repeating digits, the kind of number that screamed its owner was important. Chloe glanced at the number and raised an eyebrow. She had a pretty good idea who it belonged to. She answered the call. A deep voice came through. "Got a moment?"It was Eugene, no doubt about it. "What is it?" "Wanna relax a bit? I'm sure you'll like this place." Perhaps worried she'd refuse, Eugene quickly added, "Mr. Slade is here too. Landon set it up. Everyone was hoping you could join us." After hearing him out, Chloe simply replied, "Alright. Send me the address." "Okay." After the call ended, a message with his location popped up right away. That was a vacation estate out in the suburbs. The drive would take about half an hour. She sent a quick "On my way" reply and got up to leave. "Mommy, where are you going?" "I'm heading out for a bit. I'll be back later." Her gaze swept to the nearby laptop, and she reminded him, "Don't get too carried away with that.""Got it, Mommy! Bring me back something yummy!" Chloe drove off alone. Before heading straight to the estate, she made a stop at the largest supermarket nearby. She picked up a few of Robert's favorite snacks, stashed them in the car, then started the engine and set off for the estate. Her car rolled toward the outskirts. Suddenly, a black sedan swerved dangerously and lunged toward her car. Chloe reacted instantly, wrenching her steering wheel hard to dodge it. But the black car didn't back off. It lunged again, skidding sideways to block her path, forcing her to stop. So, they were targeting her. Luckily, no other cars were around, or this could have been much worse. Rage flared inside Chloe. Who had a death wish today? She cut the engine and stepped out. Before she could even close the door, a figure rushed at her. "Chloe! I need to talk to you!"The moment Chloe saw it was Arthur, her face turned to ice. Arthur, this lunatic. He could throw his life away if he wanted, but leave her alone! "Arthur, have you lost your mind?" "If you keep pushing me away, that's when I'll really lose it!" Arthur planted himself directly in front of Chloe, using his body to block her path. "Chloe, why are you treating me like this?" Chloe watched him move closer, her gaze hardening. "Arthur, go find someone else. Stay out of my face! I told you—if you show up in front of me again, I won't hold back." "Chloe, can't you give me one chance to make things right?" Arthur abruptly grabbed her hand, then clasped it in his palm. "I've been thinking about it day and night—I know I hurt you deeply before, more than words can say. Chloe, I'm begging for one chance. Let me love you properly, okay?" Love! Hearing that word come from Arthur's mouth felt like a sick joke. Chloe's irritation skyrocketed. She had been in a perfectly good mood, and his sudden, dramatic appearance filled her with nothing but disgust. He was sorry now? Please. That kind of love—late and dripping with regret—was cheaper than dirt. Arthur had picked the wrong person to mess with. When Chloe was done with something, she was done for good. That included people. "Let go." Chloe's voice dropped. She was fighting the strong urge to beat Arthur to a pulp then and there. "Chloe, please! Just one more chance to love you, okay? This time, I'd give my life for you if I had to!" Arthur looked over at her, full of tender feelings. He leaned in, actually trying to kiss her. Seeing his movement, Chloe's grip tightened. She twisted his captured hand sharply, applying brutal pressure. "Ah!" A sharp cry of pain escaped Arthur. In an instant, he was forced down onto one knee, his eyes wide with shock and disbelief. He couldn't believe Chloe had that kind of strength—that she could immobilize him so effortlessly with just one hand. She only had his wrist, so why couldn't he move at all? Why? "Arthur." Chloe's voice was icy calm. "Your apology is like a soggy flyer stuck under a windshield wiper—disgusting, unwanted, and you still shove it at people." Arthur just stared up at her, shock flickering in his eyes. Chloe kept his hand locked in her painful grip, her gaze frosty. "In my eyes, Arthur, you're trash." Arthur was stunned. "Next time, I won't be this nice." With that, Chloe flung his hand away. The moment she released him, all the strength seemed to drain from his body. He could barely even stand up.
