He Cheated. I Rose.
"Chloe, I know I messed up. Please forgive me." Arthur's voice was soft, filled with regret. He even brought the hand he was holding to his lips. Jennifer forced herself to stay calm. "You love me? How much, exactly?" "My heart... it only has you in it. I swear, I'll treat you right this time." Without another word, Arthur pulled the tempting figure into his arms and kissed her. Jennifer didn't resist. She let Arthur's messy, desperate passion wash over her. That night was always going to spiral out of control. The next morning, Arthur woke up with a pounding hangover. His head felt like it was cracking open. He reached for his phone on the bedside table, but his arm felt heavy, pinned down by something. He forced his eyes open, blinking away the fog. The first thing he saw was bare skin. His mind snapped awake, and he shot up in bed. A soft, feminine sound came from beside him. Arthur's heart dropped. That voice... it couldn't be... His head cleared instantly, like he'd been doused with cold water. "Jennifer? What are you doing here?" His own voice came out rough. The woman next to him stirred and slowly sat up. She didn't bother to cover herself. She looked at Arthur's tense face, her voice trembling slightly. "Arthur, I'm so sorry." Arthur stared, speechless. "I just couldn't stay away from where you were. I came back secretly. I only wanted to see you from a distance. But I found you completely drunk last night. I was just trying to take care of you, but you were so strong... you..." Jennifer turned her head away, a blush spreading across her cheeks. "I couldn't push you away. I had to... Arthur, I'm sorry." Arthur looked at the marks on her skin, and his mind went completely blank. How did this happen? Why? He couldn't remember anything. He had a vague memory of a dream—a dream where he saw Chloe. He thought... he thought it was Chloe... What was wrong with him? How could he lose control like that? While Arthur was still trying to process everything, a loud knock sounded at the door. The sudden noise made both of them freeze. Arthur suddenly remembered this was just a cheap express hotel. If the paparazzi found him here like this, it would be a disaster. He grabbed his phone to call Donald and let him handle the situation, but the door was pushed open from the outside. Several people who looked like reporters rushed in. "It really is Arthur Myers, Myers Group's CEO!" "Mr. Myers, what are you doing here?" "Mr. Myers, who is this woman with you?"Cameras swung toward the bed. Jennifer let out a frightened scream and ducked under the blanket, wrapping her arms tightly around Arthur. Not wanting to be photographed in this state, Arthur quickly pulled the quilt up to cover them both. "This is outrageous! What is the meaning of this?" Madilyn's furious voice cut through the chaos. Hotel staff and security poured into the room after her. The media people were quickly pushed out, and everyone involved was made to understand that none of the footage they had taken would ever see the light of day. Silence returned to the room. Arthur scrambled to put his clothes on. His once crisp white shirt was now wrinkled and looked ruined. "Fix yourselves up and meet me in the living room," Madilyn commanded from the doorway, glaring at Arthur and Jennifer with a frustrated look. A short while later, Arthur and Jennifer walked into the living room together. Madilyn sat there, her eyes cold. "Explain yourselves. What is this mess?""Mom, I—" Arthur began. Before he could continue, Jennifer interrupted. "Mrs. Myers, this was all my fault. Please don't blame Arthur. I... I was the one who offered myself." "Mom, just leave it. What's done is done. My head is a mess right now. I need some space to think," Arthur said, his voice heavy with exhaustion. "Space to think? You saw those vultures—they took countless pictures! If this scandal gets out, where will our family's reputation end up?" Madilyn slammed her hand on the table. "You represent the Myers Group! Do you have any idea how many people this affects?" Arthur sat there, dazed. "I'll take responsibility for Jennifer." Hearing this, Jennifer's eyes flickered, and the corner of her mouth curled into a faint, almost invisible smile. "Take responsibility? How? By marrying her?" Madilyn shot back.Arthur stood up immediately. "Mom, I have more urgent matters to deal with right now. We'll handle this later." He glanced at Jennifer, hesitated for a second, and then strode out of the room. "Arthur, get back here!" Madilyn shouted, but he was already gone, not looking back. The room fell dead quiet. Madilyn turned her icy gaze to Jennifer, her expression freezing over.
