He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 199 The Payoff

In the dim light, she could just make out Arthur sitting alone on the sofa, a lonely figure shrouded in silence. He looked defeated. Was he grieving? "Arthur, thank you... for helping me," Jennifer began softly, forcing herself to sound humble. That bitch Chloe had really tried to ruin her. Luckily, Arthur had used his connections and paid a huge sum to get her released on bail. Now the internet worshiped Chloe, while Jennifer was drowning in hate. She couldn't even bear to look at the comments online. All she knew was that Arthur had suddenly become distant. Was he planning to cut her off? Her pleading voice hung in the air, but Arthur didn't move a muscle. He just sat there. "Arthur, I'm sorry. You know me—I've never hurt anyone. I'm timid. This time, I was just backed into a corner. I never thought Chloe would be so ruthless. I'm nothing compared to her. She has all those powerful people around her. I just wanted her to stop clinging to you because..." Jennifer paused, then pushed her voice to sound even more desperate. "Arthur, can't you see? I've always loved you." Jennifer knew if she waited any longer, she'd lose her chance. She had to change his mind now. "I'm sorry!" Jennifer crouched down, covering her face as sobs wracked her body. "It's because I love you. I can't stand the thought of any other woman near you. I want to be the only one by your side. So I did something so terrible. Framing Chloe came from jealousy. It's all because I love you too much." She held nothing back, pouring out her love for Arthur. "I want you to really see me. The news is everywhere. Everyone knows about us now. I don't want to stay by your side just as the woman you feel sorry for, the one who saved your life. I want more than that." Jennifer broke down into full-blown tears. "Mommy, don't cry. It hurts my heart. You still have me. I don't need Daddy Arthur. I just want you to be okay," Jenarth whispered, crouching beside her. "Arthur, I'm sorry. If you wanna hit me, scream at me, do it. I'll take every bit of it. Just please don't ignore me." Jennifer sobbed, her cries growing more hysterical. "Jennifer." Finally, Arthur spoke. "Arthur! You're finally talking to me?" Jennifer's head shot up, her cheeks streaked with tears, eyes wide with a flicker of desperate hope. Arthur stared at her, his expression unreadable. "Jennifer, I've asked Donald to book you a flight to Eldermar." "What?" Jennifer froze. Her eyes darted nervously, a cold dread settling in. "Arthur, what are you saying?""Jennifer, I promised I'd take care of you. I've arranged everything in Eldermar—a house, staff, a butler. They'll handle all your needs. I've sorted out Jenarth's schooling and daily life too." Arthur stood up slowly and casually placed something on the table. "Besides that, there's a check for 50 million here. Think of it as payback for saving my life back then. Take Jenarth and go live easy in Eldermar. After that, live your life how you want. Do what you want." Jennifer's eyes flew wide, panic clawing at her chest. Without thinking, she brushed Jenarth's hand aside and lunged at Arthur, wrapping her arms tight around his waist as if clinging to a lifeline. "Arthur, I don't want any of that!" Jennifer cried. "You know me. I don't want money. I only want you!" "Jennifer, I only feel gratitude toward you. I know I owe you, but not with my heart," Arthur said quietly, his voice steady and firm. "I let us get too close, and that's why Chloe had a problem with me. That was my fault. I never realized how wrong it was." "I don't care! Arthur, you promised to take care of me and my son! Jenarth calls you Daddy—he believes it! And now you're just throwing us away in Eldermar? How are we supposed to live without you? I'll die without you!" Jennifer's sobs grew weaker, more desperate. "Jennifer, from the very beginning, I told you—I'm grateful you saved me." Arthur began prying her hands from his waist. "I never spoke of love with you. I never promised you a future together." Jennifer was stunned. "Mr. Myers, the lawyers are here," Donald announced as he walked in and flipped on the living room lights. The room was suddenly flooded with brightness, revealing two men in black suits standing behind him. The harsh light made Jennifer throw an arm over her eyes. Her makeup was completely ruined, leaving her looking disheveled and pitiful.
