He Cheated. I Rose.
A stylish woman sat alone at the bar, quickly finishing one drink after another. A beautiful woman drinking by herself naturally drew attention, and several men tried their luck. But each one was swiftly shot down with a sharp reply. Linda tipped her head back, drained her glass, and slammed it onto the counter. "Another." The bartender silently refilled it. She stared at the amber liquid, the fire in her eyes growing hotter. "Got a minute to talk?" A voice came from beside her. Linda glanced over and saw someone dressed a little oddly. She could tell it was a woman. Linda let out a cold, sharp laugh. "Not into women." First, it was all those men. Now, a woman was bothering her too? It felt like the whole world was trying to get on her nerves."I think you'll want to hear what I have to say," the woman insisted. That was the last straw for Linda. She had come here to unwind, not to deal with more annoyance. She slapped some cash on the counter and got up to leave. "Hot-shot designer... don't you want to make a comeback?" The teasing question from behind made Linda stop dead in her tracks. She turned and stared at the woman at the bar, confusion flickering across her face. "Who are you?" How did this stranger know who she was? And it seemed she knew even more. Seeing Linda's shocked look, the woman's smile widened. "I'm here to help." Linda watched her, her expression turning grim. Inside a private room, Linda sat across from the woman. Her eyes fell on the photos spread across the table. They were from the Mistveil Manor gala—the night Chloe had shown up, looking stunning. The dress Chloe wore was unmistakable. It was from her own "Song of Spring" collection. Linda had seen the original sketches. She knew it right away. In the pictures, Chloe stood with Landon. The camera had caught a warm, intimate vibe between them. The way Landon acted around Chloe screamed that he was protecting someone special. Landon was the current acting CEO of Cosmos Group, which made him the top boss of the LOVE brand. Everyone knew he called the shots. Chloe had been dropped into the design director position out of nowhere. How did she just walk into that job? Everyone guessed she had powerful backing, but there was never any proof. Now, right in front of Linda, was evidence of something going on between Chloe and Landon. Linda had always suspected Chloe had connections. That would explain why she could act so high and mighty around the office, and why even the manager treated her with kid gloves. Her backer had to be someone big.So, it was the acting CEO of Cosmos Group. No wonder Chloe was so full of herself! This was enough to ruin Chloe for good. But... Linda kept her face neutral. "Why should I trust you?" Nothing in life was free. This woman wouldn't show up without a reason. The woman didn't explain much. She just gave a light smile. "You don't have to trust me. I'm giving you this for free. No catch." She slid a card with a phone number across the table to Linda. "I know you have... things. Things that should have been hers, but ended up with you. This is a good chance. Use it well. It's your best shot at getting back on top." Linda stared at the number, her gaze intense, a dark shadow settling in her eyes. By the time Linda pulled herself together, the woman across from her was already standing to leave. Linda quickly got up. "Why are you helping me?" The woman stopped, turned back, and flashed a dangerous, charming smile. "Because, just like you, I want to see that woman ruined. Wiped out completely." Linda stood frozen, stunned. When she finally snapped out of it, the room was empty. She grabbed the photos from the table, hurriedly paid the bill, and rushed out, worried someone might see her if she stayed. After leaving the bar, Linda called a ride and sped off. Parked discreetly by the curb outside the bar, a plain black sedan sat in the shadows. The woman, now without her disguise, watched Linda hurry away and smiled in satisfaction. "Mommy, do you think that silly woman will take the bait?" Jenarth's voice was sweet, though his words weren't. Jennifer tossed her disguise into a nearby trash can and glanced at him with a faint smile. "She will. If she wants to win, she'll grab it. She won't even stop to think."
