He Cheated. I Rose.
Arthur lowered his head and apologized publicly. Jennifer stood nearby, watching Arthur bow and apologize to Chloe. She could barely conceal the hatred burning in her eyes. Her carefully maintained pride now felt completely shattered under Chloe's heel. Chloe remained utterly unmoved by Arthur's apology. She didn't even glance in his direction. Arthur stayed frozen in his bowing position, trying to prove his sincerity. But with Chloe offering no response, he remained stuck there. The prolonged silence made the atmosphere more and more awkward. For Arthur, this was likely the most humiliating moment he'd experienced as president of Myers Group. With so many witnesses, he had completely lost face. "Where are we sitting?" Chloe asked Landon."Right in the front row," Landon answered, pointing ahead. "Let's go then! We shouldn't delay Mr. Slade's auction," Chloe said, offering Joseph a polite smile. Joseph smiled back. "Everyone, please take your seats. The auction is about to begin. I've prepared some fascinating items for you all." At Joseph's words, the guests who had gathered for the drama quickly dispersed to their assigned seats. The women who had previously doubted Chloe, now convinced she was Cosmos Group's special designer with a stunning new collection coming soon, crowded around her eagerly. They asked whether her designs would be available in their favorite colors. Chloe answered a few questions politely before gracefully moving to her seat. Landon glanced at Eugene and cleared his throat meaningfully. He had secured Eugene a prime location—Eugene would definitely appreciate the gesture. The first row centered around Joseph, with Eugene and Landon on either side of him. Next to them were Chloe and Selina—though they were seated on opposite sides. Chloe sat beside Eugene, and Selina next to Landon. Following them were several key members from Eldermar. Eugene didn't speak, heading directly to his seat. Seeing Eugene moving toward the front, Joseph quickly followed. As he passed Arthur, he paused. "Mr. Myers, being young and passionate is a good thing—but you need to be mature and steady in both what you say and do," Joseph said with a gentle smile, patting Arthur's shoulder before moving on. Arthur stood frozen, his face stiff with embarrassment. His reputation as president of Myers Group lay in ruins today. Joseph hadn't made a big scene, which somehow made it worse—clearly, he didn't consider Arthur important enough to warrant serious attention. And every thread of this mess traced straight back to Chloe. Yet Arthur had no one to blame but himself. He hadn't trusted Chloe, and his angry accusations now returned to haunt him. With the truth laid bare, every harsh word he'd spoken felt like a humiliating slap to his own face. "Arthur, is this really how you see me?" Chloe's words echoed in his mind. She had asked this more than once. After six years of marriage, as her husband, he seemed to know nothing about her. What did she like? What were her favorite foods? Her preferred colors? He had no idea. Chloe was a designer? Her work was exceptional? She had even worn her designs herself, yet he still refused to believe it. What a joke Arthur had become."Arthur, the auction is starting soon," Jennifer whispered, gently trying to pull him out of his daze. The recent events had made them the center of unwanted attention. Jennifer desperately wanted to distance herself from Arthur, but had no choice except to remain by his side. With the auction about to kick off, Arthur needed to take his seat; he couldn't just stand there like a fool, drawing even more stares. Arthur didn't respond. Jennifer's words fell completely on deaf ears, as if she hadn't spoken at all. "Arthur?" Jennifer called out again, her voice tinged with urgency, but got the exact same silence. She shot a meaningful look at Madilyn. Madilyn's jaw tightened as she scanned the crowd—every other guest had settled into their seats, chatting quietly—all except her oblivious son, standing frozen like a statue. Rage burned hot in her chest. Chloe's arrogant attitude had publicly shamed them, and though Arthur was her husband, Chloe hadn't spared him any dignity. Madilyn felt determined to settle this score with Chloe eventually. "Sit down now. How much longer will you embarrass yourself?" Madilyn snapped, grabbing Arthur's arm and pulling him toward their seats. Of all the luck! Their seats were in the second row, directly behind Joseph's group in the first row. If Arthur simply lifted his head, he could hear every word exchanged between Chloe and Joseph. While this would be a rare opportunity for anyone wanting to get closer to Joseph, for Arthur it only deepened his humiliation.
