He Cheated. I Rose.

Chapter 115 Gold Invitations

Tonight, she didn't need to put on a show. All she had to do was stand quietly next to Arthur. Everyone would see that by the side of Arthur, the renowned master of the prestigious Myers family in Capaville, stood none other than her as his companion. She didn't need any introductions. People's curiosity would do the work for her. So what if Arthur was married and had a son? He had never brought Chloe or Robert to a single public event. It was like they didn't exist. But tonight, she was the one by his side. She was his date. With all the recent media stories, the scene was already set. The more mysterious something was, the more people wanted the truth. Seeing it with their own eyes made it real. She was Jennifer, a world-class pianist, and the only woman standing with Arthur tonight. Without a doubt, she was the future lady of the Myers family. And with Madilyn here too—Arthur's own mother—her presence said everything. Who else needed to ask who she was? "Mrs. Myers, what a surprise to see you here tonight!" A calm voice came from behind. Madilyn turned and saw a middle-aged couple walking toward them, all smiles. She recognized them as the Fords, who had done some business with the Myers family in the past. Madilyn gave them a polite smile. "Mr. Ford, what a coincidence meeting you here," she said. She didn't think much of the Ford family, but she kept things pleasant. "How have you been?" "Business is going well, thank you," Mark Ford replied. "We've secured a few international projects recently, so profits are up. We were lucky to get an invitation to Mr. Slade's charity dinner tonight. And we run into you right at the door!" Virginia added, beaming as she held her husband's arm. "Dear, let's go in with Mrs. Myers. I'm sure we're seated in the same section, right?" She lightly waved her invitation card as she spoke.Madilyn was just about to explain that the dinner had different seating areas—gold invitations and silver invitations meant different zones—when she noticed the gold invitation in Virginia's hand. A cold look flashed in Madilyn's eyes. Had the Ford family really risen so high that they rated a gold invitation now? Or had they simply bought their way in? Some wealthy families would pay a fortune for these invites just for the networking opportunities. Who was to say the Fords hadn't done the same? "The seating is all pre-arranged. We'll see if we end up sitting together once we're inside," Madilyn said, her tone cooling noticeably as she deliberately kept her distance. Virginia picked up on the shift but kept smiling. "You're right, we'll know soon enough." She gave her gold invitation another little wave, making sure it was seen. Madilyn's eyes showed a hint of disdain. Showing off over a gold invitation? How tacky.Once inside, the seating arrangements would make the real social hierarchy perfectly clear. "Arthur, let's go in. I haven't seen Mr. Slade in such a long time. I'm thinking of asking him to grab a coffee when he's not busy," Madilyn said, stepping forward to take her son's arm. Arthur nodded and began walking toward the entrance. Jennifer naturally fell into step beside him. Noticing a woman next to Arthur, Virginia's eyes lit up with interest. "Arthur, it's been a while! You're looking more handsome than ever." Arthur responded with a polite, vague smile. Virginia then glanced at Jennifer, her smile widening. "And Arthur, who is this lovely lady with you?" Jennifer didn't answer. She just offered a polite smile back. Arthur seemed caught off guard and hesitated, unsure how to respond.Madilyn stepped in quickly. "This is Jennifer. She's a world-renowned pianist and a friend of Arthur's." She kept the explanation short, then tugged lightly on Arthur's arm to move forward. Virginia laughed. "My, what a perfect pair—such a handsome man and such a beautiful woman! It looks like there might be happy news on the way! If I remember correctly, the media was full of stories about you two not long ago. Arthur, don't keep us in the dark! If there's good news, you should share it so we can all be happy for you!" A spark of irritation flashed in Madilyn's eyes. If families like the Fords started believing these rumors, gossip would spread like wildfire, and the situation could spiral out of control. She couldn't let that happen. Jennifer's only role was to help get rid of Chloe. That was it. At least, that was all Madilyn would allow for now. "Don't believe everything you read. The media makes up stories just for attention," Madilyn stated flatly. She shot a sharp look at Arthur, then led the way inside, ending the conversation.
