The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands
Calum lifted Emma effortlessly into his arms. He walked with deliberate steadiness to prevent her from being jostled. The distance from the bed to the table was short, but he moved with extra caution. When he reached the dining table, he gently set Emma down. Drake immediately pulled out a chair and added a soft cushion against the backrest. Only then did Calum bend over and carefully seat Emma. He stayed close, making sure she was comfortable and secure before releasing her. "Would you like some soup first? It'll keep you warm," he offered, naturally reaching for a bowl to ladle it for her. The hands that had once commanded armies now moved with an astonishing delicacy. After all, he was a Marshal, not a fool. Once Silas talked him through it, he realized exactly where he had gone wrong. Almost immediately, he figured out what he needed to do next."Okay," Emma responded with a nod. She glanced at the spread on the table and then at the men watching her. She smiled. "Why don't you all eat with me? There's so much food. I can't finish it alone." It would have been a shame to waste the feast Corvin and Kieran had prepared—it smelled incredible. "Of course," Corvin said. This time, he didn't hesitate; he slid into the seat beside her as soon as she spoke. Edric and the others watched him with half-smiles, as if sharing a private joke. Corvin ignored their looks, focusing on Emma. "Emma, what would you like? I'll bring it to you. This sea beast is excellent. I remembered you like fried beast cutlets, so I made it that way—with one large bone, no small ones. You can eat safely." Calum mirrored Corvin's gesture, carefully placing a piece of beast meat on her plate. "Emy, this beast meat is perfect," Calum added. "It'll replenish your energy—good for you and the cubs." Corvin stared at him, stunned.Emy? Isn't that what Silas calls Emma? Corvin glanced at Silas, who kept his head down, quietly sipping soup. Noticing Corvin's surprise, Calum addressed Emma. "Emy, calling you 'Ms. Tibarn' feels distant. Your name feels warmer—especially the way Silas says it. Can I call you that too?" He had already spoken the words. If she refused now, it would make him look foolish. "I don't mind at all," she replied, glancing briefly at Silas. Calum looked to Silas. "Is that okay with you?" Silas raised his head, met Emma's gaze, and said, "If Emy's fine with it, then I am too." Just then, Emma felt a tickle at her ankle. A soft vine had wrapped around it in an instant. It climbed her leg like a playful pet, warm and clingy. Small buds sprouted along it, brushing her calf in a mischievous, teasing way. The surprise made her nearly burst into laughter. She tried to pull her foot back, but the vine tightened, the buds daringly exploring her skin. The tickling crawled from her ankle up her calf, forcing her to stifle a giggle. She didn't want anyone to notice. Emma shot a glare at the culprit across the table. He is way too bold right now. Silas calmly held his bowl, sipping as if he had no connection to the prank. But the faint curve of his lips and the spark of amusement in his eyes betrayed him. He caught Emma's glance and finally set the bowl down, smiling. Under the table, the vine seemed to take the hint. It brushed her leg one last time, soft and reluctant, before slipping away silently. Calum hadn't noticed what had happened beneath the table, but he caught the change in Emma's expression. He shot a sharp look at Silas without saying a word. Everyone except Corvin glanced at Silas knowingly—Edric especially.Silas ate quietly, pretending not to notice their stares. Peace returned, and Emma was about to lift her fork when she felt another soft brush against her ankle. She didn't hesitate, glaring at Silas. Right then, Corvin, sitting beside her, blurted, "Edric, sorry. I think I stepped on your tail." Emma froze and whipped her head toward Edric, who ducked, cheeks flushed. Corvin frowned, still confused. "Edric, why is your tail out while we're eating?" Silas set his bowl down, eyes wide with innocence, holding back a smile as he looked at Emma. Not me this time. Kieran and Drake remained quiet, clearly aware of what was happening. Calum rolled his eyes inwardly. These guys are full of tricks. Ignoring the antics, he picked up some greens and placed them on Emma's plate. "Emy, you're carrying the cubs. You need balance. Don't just eat meat."
