The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands
This primary mate is nothing but a hot potato in their minds right now. Nobody wants it. No problem, I'm good at handling things. Even if it's a hot potato, I can take it, break it down, and turn it into something irresistible—something they'll fight over. Emma looked at Silas and Edric and spoke up. "Since Lucien doesn't want to be the primary mate anymore, someone has to take that spot. Taking Lucien out of the equation, I'm planning to choose one of you three, along with Corvin." She reached for her lightcore and dialed Corvin for a video call. The call connected quickly. Corvin appeared on the screen, looking completely worn out. He was in tattered work clothes, one lens missing from his glasses, and his hair stuck out in every direction as if it had been through a battle. "Emma." The moment he saw her, the exhaustion on his expression vanished. His eyes lit up, bright and alive. "Corvin, do you have a minute right now?" Emma asked, her chest tightening a little at the sight of him. He's been swamped in the lab lately and looks significantly thinner. Tomorrow, I'm going to swing by Corvin's lab to check on him. "Emma, I've got some time now. Is there something you wanted to talk to me about?" he asked, noticing the serious look on her expression. I've never seen Emma look this serious before. So commanding. I like it. "Yeah, I actually have something to tell you." She didn't waste any time. She quickly ran through the whole thing with Corvin, explaining that Lucien wasn't going to be the primary mate. "Now, I'm going to choose the primary mate from the three of you—Silas, Edric, and you." She let her gaze sweep over all three of them. "So, which one of you is willing to step up as the primary mate?" The primary mate? Corvin stumbled back a step, startled. It's not that I don't want the job. I'm just really not the right guy for it. I'm already scared every time I see Lucien, and now there's Calum, who's even more terrifying. If I end up as the primary mate, I'm pretty sure I won't survive more than three days. "Emma…" Corvin hesitated, caught between wanting to say no and not daring to do so. He felt awkward and didn't know how to put it into words.Edric glanced at Emma, torn over whether he should speak up. "Emy, I want to give it a shot." Silas stepped forward on his own. "If one of us really has to be chosen, I think I'm the best fit." Edric's eyes widened, staring at Silas in surprise. He hadn't expected him to be so bold. Corvin looked at Silas, relief and gratitude washing over him. "Emma, I think Silas is the best choice, too." I knew it, Silas is definitely the best one in this family. Emma looked at Silas. "You sure about this?" Silas nodded seriously. "I'm sure." She then turned to Edric and Corvin. "Are you both really in agreement with Silas being my primary mate? No regrets?" "Emma, I don't regret it," Corvin said right away. "Silas is the perfect choice. I'm all in." Edric added, "Emma, Silas fits better than I do. I support him, too." "Good," Emma said, nodding firmly. "Since you're both on board, it's settled. From today on, Silas is my primary mate."She finished speaking and called over Kieran and Drake. "Listen up, everyone. A house without rules is chaos. So, we're gonna lay down a few rules from now on." Emma stood and walked over to Silas. "First, from now on, any big or small decisions in this house, you follow Silas' lead." No one objected. As the primary mate, it made sense that Silas called the shots at home. No one had a problem with that. "I'm fine with that," Corvin said. The others nodded too. "We're fine with it." After hearing them, Emma let out a soft laugh. "You guys are missing the point. I'm not asking for your opinion. I'm setting rules. Just listen. Even if you had an opinion, it wouldn't matter." I'm not consulting them, I'm telling them. And they say they are OK with that? Ha! Even if they do, they'd better keep it to themselves. Edric and the others went completely silent, not daring to say another word. Emma glanced at them and went on. "Second, as my mates, suitors, and followers, I don't mind if you're competing for my attention. But it has to be a healthy competition. No fighting, no scheming against anyone, and absolutely no hurting anyone." Edric and the others nodded right away. Sure, they had no objections. And even if they did, they wouldn't dare voice them. They all listened to Emma. She kept going. "Third, if you have any ideas or plans, you need to tell me. No hiding things from me. I can't read everyone's mind. If something comes up, we deal with it together." They nodded again. "Fourth, Silas is my primary mate. That means he takes on extra responsibilities and keeps the household running smoothly. He works hard."
