The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands

Chapter 374 Safe at Last

"Marcus." Lucien saw that the person really was Marcus. He spoke right away. His voice sounded rough because he was anxious. "Why did you come? Where was Emma?" A moment ago, the officer in charge of cleaning the battlefield came to tell him that they had found a high-level warship. The moment Lucien saw the photo the officer sent, he recognized the ship. Corvin had built it for Emma. When he saw that ship, Lucien thought Emma had arrived. He rushed over right away. He did not expect to see Marcus instead. "Ms. Tibarn is fine. Don't worry." Marcus saw how tense Lucien looked. He explained quickly. "She told me to look for you. She felt your beast mark heating up and worried that you were in danger."Marcus soon explained everything that happened at the manor. When Lucien heard that Emma was safe and that everything at home was fine, he finally felt himself relax. He told Marcus to store the warship first and then brought him back to his own ship. Once they returned, Lucien said to him, "I can't use my lightcore right now. Please send Emma a message. Tell her I'm not hurt. The fight here ended. Tell her not to worry. I should be able to return soon." The mission had gone well. Lucien had kept his lightcore turned off the whole time. That was why Emma could not reach him. Marcus looked him over. Lucien did look messy, but his mental power seemed stable. It looked like he was not injured. Marcus nodded. He opened his own lightcore and started a video call with Emma. Emma had stayed home these days and waited for updates. She called Marcus almost every day through video to check on his safety and schedule. When his call came in, Emma picked up almost at once. "Marcus." Her projection showed up inside the ship's lounge. "Ms. Tibarn, it's me." Marcus saw her anxious eyes. He turned the camera toward Lucien. "Ms. Tibarn, I found Lucien. He was fine. I checked already. He wasn't injured. I will let him talk to you." "Lucien." The moment she saw him, Emma's eyes turned red. "You're safe. That's such a relief." She had not slept well for days. There were heavy dark circles under her eyes. Whenever she closed her eyes, she saw Lucien's pale face. She saw him standing in the dark. He stayed silent while he looked at her. Then he turned and walked away into the darkness. No matter how she shouted or searched, he never responded. She never saw him. "Emma, I'm sorry." Lucien saw how tired she looked. His chest tightened. "I'm fine now. I just look a little messy. Don't worry. The mission ended. I can return soon." His voice carried deep guilt. "I don't want you to say sorry. I want you to come home safe." Emma watched his projection. He stood there in front of her. She finally let out a slow breath. She said, "Your beast mark has been heating up these days. It is still doing that." Emma touched her chest at the spot where Lucien's mark was. She looked serious. "Lucien, before you come home, let Marcus stay with you. I will wait for both of you to come back." She would not feel at ease until Lucien returned home completely safe.Lucien had planned to send Marcus back. When he heard her request, he paused and then nodded. "Alright, Emma. I'll listen to you." If he sent Marcus away, she would only worry more. Lucien still had a lot of work to finish. After he said a few more things to Emma, he handed the lightcore back to Marcus. Marcus lay on the couch inside Lucien's ship. He looked at Emma with a wronged expression. "Ms. Tibarn, I'm so tired. When I return, you must make it up to me." He had not slept at all these days because he was rushing to find Lucien. He felt exhausted. Emma knew he had pushed himself. For someone like Marcus, who always chose to lie down instead of sit, driving a ship nonstop with no rest was very hard. "Alright. When you return, I will make it up to you."Emma spoke softly. Marcus really was tired. He talked for a bit and then fell asleep. Emma had not rested well for several days either. Now that she knew Lucien was safe and after seeing Marcus fall asleep, her whole body relaxed. She sat on the couch and fell asleep too. Edric and Silas walked over. They saw Emma asleep on the couch. They also saw Marcus asleep in the projection, with no sense of awareness at all. They let out a helpless sigh. They carried Emma back to her room quickly and carefully. Silas gave her the flower sap he prepared. Then he and Edric stayed by her side in silence. They knew she had not slept well for several days. She always had nightmares as soon as she fell asleep.
