The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands

Chapter 346 The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Scott was still on the call as he stepped into the house. The moment Chloe's name came up, Monique and Carolyn—who had been chatting casually on the sofa—immediately straightened up, exchanging a quick glance. Carolyn shot a look at her mother before turning her attention back to Scott. He, meanwhile, was completely absorbed in the conversation. Moving toward the window, he kept talking, his voice low but intense. "Chloe, just this once—please. You have to come to the celebration," Scott said, his tone almost pleading, as if he were on the verge of begging. After a brief pause, his expression shifted to one of excitement. It looked like Chloe had agreed. "Alright, Chloe. Don't worry about a thing—the secretariat will handle all the arrangements. All you need to do is show up at the event in three days," Scott replied eagerly, gripping the phone tighter. "Oh, and one more thing... if it's possible, could you ask Lawrence from Cosmos Group to join you?" Another affirmative answer seemed to come through, and Scott's excitement grew."That's fantastic if Lawrence can make it. I'll personally oversee everything for the Lewis Group celebration—you have my word," he assured her before ending the call. Even after hanging up, Scott was still beaming. "This is just perfect," he murmured to himself. Monique watched him, her gaze cooling as she took in his childlike enthusiasm. She glanced subtly at Carolyn, signaling her to speak up. Catching her mother's cue, Carolyn called out, "Dad!" Startled, Scott turned and noticed the two of them on the sofa. His expression quickly turned stern. "Carolyn, why aren't you at the office today?" "I took the day off, Dad. I'm not going in," Carolyn replied, unable to hide her irritation. Here she was, finally getting a break, and all he cared about was why she wasn't at work. It was almost laughable—the daughter of Lewis Group's CEO, stuck doing cleaning duties. She was his daughter, for heaven's sake! "You took a day off," Scott repeated, putting his phone away as he sat across from her. "Since you're home, this is a good opportunity. I need you to go upstairs and clear out your room later." "Clear out my room? What for?" Carolyn asked, confused."That room used to be Chloe's. I'm bringing her back home—this is where she belongs," Scott stated firmly. "That bedroom was always hers. You can move into the guest room or one of the smaller bedrooms. Pack up your things today. The contractors are coming tomorrow to restore the room to how Chloe liked it." "What? I've lived in that room for years! Why should I be the one to move out?" Carolyn flared up. "Dad, how can you play favorites like this? I thought Chloe cut ties with the Lewis family. What gives her the right to come back now?" "Enough," Scott cut in sharply, his eyes stern. "You're accusing me of favoritism? Look at how I've treated you all these years compared to Chloe." "I—" Carolyn faltered, unable to respond. "We owe Chloe more than you realize. Our family wouldn't have turned things around, let alone reached the success we have now, if it weren't for her," Scott said, his voice heavy with emotion. "Carolyn, it's time to grow up and drop the entitled act. From now on, I expect you to treat your sister with respect." "But, Dad—" "No excuses. I want your room cleared out today. The workers will be here first thing tomorrow," Scott said firmly. Then he turned to Monique. "Monique, I need you to make an effort with Chloe from now on. She's never been close to you, so it's up to you to bridge that gap. Be the bigger person, alright?" Monique stared at him, momentarily speechless. She could hardly believe what she was hearing. What started as a simple business discussion had completely shifted Scott's attitude. It was as if Chloe was all that mattered to him now. For a moment, Monique thought she must be imagining things—she even detected a hint of pride in Scott's eyes when he spoke about Chloe. Was this some kind of joke? Though a thousand objections raced through her mind, Monique held them back and forced a compliant tone. "You're absolutely right, Scott. Chloe is part of this family, and as long as she's willing to accept me, I'll treat her as my own daughter." She didn't mean a word of it, but she made sure to lock eyes with Carolyn, silently urging her to follow along.
