The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands
Emma looked at Silas, her tone half-curious, half-teasing. "Is Remy going to stay growing on your head from now on?" Silas explained that Remy had to grow there for three full years before taking on human form. At the moment, Remy had already grown from the size of a blueberry to that of a grape. Three years of growth, how big will that become? Pumpkin-sized, perhaps? The image of Silas with a bright orange pumpkin balanced on his head flickered through Emma's mind, and the corners of her mouth twitched despite herself. Meanwhile, Drake couldn't help but smile. Emma is taking me home. I'm so happy. Marcus, on the other hand, was doing his best to contain his disdain. That shameless old dragon! Before Silas could respond, Corvin came over with plates of food and caught Emma's words midair. His eyes widened as he blurted out, "Wait, if that's true, Remy is going to stay on Silas' head for three years? How big will he get after that? Basketball-sized?" At the mental picture of Silas walking around with a basketball on his head, Lucien and Edric pressed their lips together hard, struggling not to laugh. Marcus looked over at Silas and the small fruit sprouting from his head and muttered weakly, "No way he'll be basketball-sized. Remy's a fruit, probably the size of that watermelon Ms. Tibarn found last time." Hearing that, Silas' face darkened. The thought of having a watermelon on his head made his mouth twitch violently. "That's enough, all of you." He took a step forward and caught Emma's hand. "Emma, don't listen to their nonsense. Remy will stay just like this until it leaves me. He won't get any bigger." Remy didn't know what a watermelon was, but judging from the way his father and the others reacted, it definitely wasn't something good."Mommy," Remy said softly, "I won't turn into a watermelon. Don't dislike me, please. I will store up energy, and when there's enough, I can turn into human form." Emma gently brushed her fingers over Remy, who bounced with excitement atop Silas' head. "I know. No matter what you turn into, you'll always be my baby. I will never dislike you. I will always love you." Remy let out a delighted squeak and bounced even higher. "I will always be Mommy's baby! I love you most!" Silas stood silently by her side, eyes soft and overflowing with warmth. Emma never failed to amaze him. When he had decided to keep Remy, Silas had been deeply uneasy. He had seen too many petalyn therians abandoned by their huntress for raising children. Huntress had so many partners. Sometimes, before even a year passed, the male by their sides were already replaced. Even Silas, who was clever, battle-hardened, and undefeated, had feared that he might end up like those he had pitied, discarded, and forgotten by the one he loved most. But in the end, he chose to trust. He believed Emma would never abandon him or their child. Emma's tenderness toward Silas and Remy didn't spark jealousy among the others; rather, Lucien and the rest felt genuine happiness for them. Emma's affection for Silas and the baby also showed what kind of partner she would be when their children arrived someday. She would never cast them aside. Lucien glanced at the dishes in Corvin's and Edric's hands and smiled. "Emma, let's eat before the food gets cold." "Right," Emma agreed, nodding. She reached up once more to stroke Remy atop Silas' head, then took Silas' and Lucien's hands. "Come on, let's go. Our whole family, together." Emma understood Silas' fears better than he realized. After living here for years, she had seen and learned much. She knew Silas worried that once a child was in the picture, other males might push him out of his place beside her. So she needed to make her stance clear, to show him that he and their child would never be abandoned. Lucien directed Corvin and Edric to set the food down in the nearby pavilion, spacious enough for everyone to sit together. When all were seated, Emma turned to where Kieran lingered quietly on the side. "Kieran, don't just stand there. Sit and eat with us." Kieran's eyes went wide. Emotion shimmered in them, his voice trembling. "R-really?" I can join them… at the same table? He looked cautiously toward Lucien. Lucien nodded. "If Emma says sit, then sit. You're part of this meal." The others nodded too. None of them disliked the Merfolk king. "Thank you, Ms. Tibarn," Kieran said, bowing slightly. "Thank you, everyone." He sat beside Corvin, his joy almost tangible. Corvin chuckled and clapped his shoulder. "If you really want to thank me, cry me some more pearls later." He'd seen Silas use Kieran's pearls to decorate his rooms to win Emma's favor, and figured it might work for him too. Kieran nodded earnestly. "No problem. Tell me how many you want, and I'll give them all to you."
