The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands
Marcus quickly brought over a clean set of clothes for Emma and helped her get dressed. Then, he sent a message to Edric, asking him to bring up the food. Emma was bone-tired, sprawled across the bed, unwilling to move an inch. Before Edric arrived, she pulled out two leaves that Silas had given her and swallowed them. The leaves worked fairly well. Not long after, the heavy fatigue weighing her down began to lift, but strangely enough, her hunger grew stronger. When Edric finally brought the food upstairs, Emma dragged herself up, washed her face, and returned to eat. He had prepared braised sea beast, a kind with just one line of thick spines, making it easy to eat. Seeing him, Emma suddenly remembered to ask, "Edric, is your brother alright?" Edric nodded. "He's hurt, but not badly. He's still at Cloudspire Medical Center. He'll probably be discharged tomorrow." If Edric's brother could be out in a day, that meant the injury really wasn't serious.Relieved, Emma finally relaxed. She picked up her fork and began eating. The two-pound sea beast was gone before long. She even finished most of the sides and a sandwich, too. It was the first time she'd eaten that much without feeling stuffed. When she was done, drowsiness hit her like a wave. Emma waved lazily at Marcus and Edric. "Go get some rest, you two. I'm going back to sleep." Marcus immediately replied, "I'll stay with Ms. Tibarn." Edric knew he'd just bonded with Emma, so he didn't argue. "I'll head back to my room, then. Call me if you need anything." With that, he left. Emma was already asleep at this point. She slept straight through until noon on the third day. … When she woke, the fatigue was gone, though her scalp suddenly felt a little itchy.Marcus wasn't in the room, so she got up and took a shower. Afterward, the itch lessened, but it didn't disappear completely. She didn't think much of it as she got dressed and headed downstairs. … In the living room, a little silver-white wolf was using its paws to pin Cotton Candy, who was wearing a frilly princess dress, to the floor. The pink, round little rabbit was filthy, with one eye swollen shut. He looked absolutely pitiful. The moment Emma came down, Cotton Candy squeaked twice in panic. Ms. Tibarn, save me! Marcus is a maniac—he's been beating me up for days! Malrik had no idea what he'd done to offend Marcus. Every time Emma slept, Marcus somehow found an excuse to rough him up. His old wounds hadn't healed before new ones appeared. As soon as she woke, Marcus shifted back into human form and strode to her side. "Ms. Tibarn," he replied, his voice steady, "this rabbit keeps trying to approach you whenever you're asleep. "I wasn't beating him but just teaching him some rules. The wounds on him? They're from the backlash of hitting me. He did that to himself." Ms. Tibarn, he's framing me! came Malrik's plea. Malrik wanted to cry. Ever since discovering Marcus' ability, he'd avoided fighting Marcus entirely. However, Marcus acted like he was possessed, grabbing him for a beating every chance possible—over and over. From where Malrik couldn't see, Marcus subtly shook his head at Emma. These past few days, he'd watched the rabbit closely. Apart from constantly wanting to be near Emma, there wasn't anything strange about him. If anything, Emma seemed the more unusual one. After they bonded, Marcus' mental power had returned to full strength overnight, and his ability had surged an entire level higher. Such a thing had never been recorded in the entire interstellar. Marcus knew this couldn't get out, so he told no one. Emma noticed Marcus still hadn't detected anything strange about Cotton Candy, causing a flicker of doubt to cross her mind. Maybe she was overthinking. Maybe Cotton Candy really was just an ordinary rabbit. Smiling faintly, she walked over, scooped the rabbit into her arms, and took out a leaf given by Silas, feeding it to him. Until she knew for sure, she couldn't let Marcus beat Cotton Candy to death. After all, she was the one who'd said she wanted to raise him. She owed him that much responsibility until his true identity was clear. Malrik, unaware Emma already suspected him, ate the leaf gratefully. The injuries on his small body began to heal at once.He looked up at Emma, deeply touched, as he knew she still treated him well. … After seeing most of his wounds heal, Emma put him down and stopped fussing. Not spotting Edric anywhere, she turned to Marcus. "Where's Edric?" Marcus replied, "He went to check on Ethan." Then, he headed to the kitchen to pour her some water. Emma sat down on the couch in the living room and opened her lightcore to text Corvin, Silas, and Lucien. Emma asked, 'Corvin, how are things on your end?' 'Silas, how's your situation looking?' After sending the second message, she added another. 'Silas, I think there's something off about Cotton Candy. He doesn't seem like a normal rabbit. Marcus has beaten him several times, and he still hasn't slipped up.'
