The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands

Chapter 223 Aetherwing Newborns

Emma remembered that back on F-268, Laura hadn't seemed pregnant at all. Yet at the moment, she had already given birth. When Corvin came out carrying the freshly cooked lunch, he caught Emma saying, "Corvin, let's skip shopping this afternoon. Let's stop by the hospital first. I—" She didn't even finish her sentence. The moment Corvin heard the word "hospital", panic struck. He set the food down and rushed over, gripping her hand tightly. "Emma, what's wrong? Are you in pain? I'll ping Silas to come back right now." Silas and Lucien had left early for work that morning, and Edric was gone too—no one knew where. At home, only Corvin and Marcus were around. "Don't panic. I'm fine," Emma quickly explained when she saw his alarm. "My friend just gave birth. She's at a hospital on the Central Planet. I want to visit her." Hearing that, Corvin let out a long breath of relief. "Alright. We'll eat first, then head out. I'll get Marcus to come with us." He went to Marcus' room but found it empty. Frowning, he wondered if Marcus had slipped out too. He was about to send a message when the side-room door opened. Marcus stepped out, a faint chill clinging to him. "Were you looking for me?" Corvin blinked. "Why are you in that room and not your own?" Marcus gave him a helpless look. "I can't sleep in that room." Corvin stared at him. Can't sleep in his own room? What kind of quirk is that? Marcus didn't want to argue about rooms. If the female liked how it was arranged, he wasn't about to tear it apart and rebuild it. Instead, he changed the subject. "What's up?" "Emma wants to visit a friend at the hospital," Corvin said directly. "I want you to come along." After all, Marcus was Rank 11—having him around meant safety."Sure." Marcus nodded. After lunch, the three of them left the estate and headed for the hospital. Before they went, Emma bought a pile of gifts for Laura and her newborns. The hospital Laura stayed in was built by the Empire specifically for females giving birth. It featured top-tier interstellar equipment and a pristine environment. Best of all, everything there was free. The moment Emma stepped inside, she felt the place was almost too luxurious—it didn't feel like a hospital at all, more like a high-end resort. At the reception, she gave both her own name and Laura's. With Laura's consent, the staff granted her access and guided her to Laura's ward. Calling it a ward was an understatement—it was actually a four-story villa. Inside, Laura's mate was present, while several medical staff tended to her and the cubs. Corvin and Marcus weren't allowed inside the private area, so Emma entered alone. She immediately spotted Laura propped up on her pillows, looking radiant and full of energy—hardly like someone who had just given birth."Emma, come over and see my cubs!" Laura exclaimed, eyes bright with excitement. Emma hurried to her side. In a transparent incubator beside the bed lay several tiny newborns. Her eyes widened in astonishment. It was her first time seeing real, living therian infants. They were unbelievably small—five of them could have fit in one of her hands. Their skin was soft and pink, covered in a fine fuzz, and they squirmed gently against one another. Two faint bumps rose on their backs—undeveloped wings that hadn't yet unfolded. Emma stared, full of wonder. "Laura, they're adorable! From the looks of it, they're Aetherwing, right?" No wonder the pregnancy had passed so quickly—Aetherwing gestation only lasted a little over ten days, as she'd read on the lightcore. Laura smiled and nodded. "Yes, that's right. They're my new mate Rowan Aether's cubs." "Laura, that's incredible," Emma said, reaching out to lightly poke one of the cubs. It was so soft and squishy that she couldn't help but laugh.Seeing her fascination, Laura teased with a smile, "You've got mates now too. Ever thought about when you'll have cubs?" Emma hadn't, honestly. When she bonded with Edric, he'd taken precautions. She grinned. "No rush. My level's still low—I'll level up more first. Cubs can wait." Etherians lived long lives, and Emma didn't plan to have children so soon. She'd discussed it with Lucien and the others, and none of them minded. Especially Silas—he'd sounded almost relieved about not having kids yet. Laura knew Emma had her own plans. She didn't press or gush about how cute cubs were, nor did she urge her to hurry.
