The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands

Chapter 212 Fish That Shouldn't Exist

Silas had never paid much attention to the little fish before. Now, seeing that pink one blowing bubbles in the corner, he suddenly pulled off one of his own leaves and dropped it into the tank. The moment the leaf touched the water, the pink fish darted out of the corner and bit into it. Emma stared. "It eats your leaves, not fish food?" Silas smiled. "Maybe it's a vegetarian." He took Emma's hand and led her back to the couch. Then, in a low voice, he whispered near her ear, "Emma, I think I know where all the missing fish went." "You do?" Already? Emma looked shocked. " Tell me—where did they go?" Silas leaned closer, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, "They were eaten. Do you remember the Merfolk King, Kieran Vale, the one everyone's been searching for lately? I think he's hiding here—somewhere in our estate." Emma's eyes widened. "He's here? Where?" As soon as she said that, she suddenly turned toward the fish tank, grabbing Silas' sleeve. "You mean that little fish is eating your leaf?" She had never suspected the pink fish. It was a gift from Aria, but now it seemed different from the rest. … "What are you two doing?" Lucien walked out of the kitchen and saw Silas and Emma close together. Marcus lay on the couch nearby. Silas' eyes lit up the moment he saw Lucien. He went over quickly and said in a low voice, "I was just telling Emma about the Merfolk King that Aurelia has been looking for—Kieran." Then he asked, "Didn't you say yesterday you had news about him? Did you find him?" Lucien shook his head. "No." Kieran is really good at hiding. Aurelia has nearly turned the entire Central Planet upside down and still hasn't found a trace of him. "Why are you suddenly asking about him?" Lucien gave Silas a suspicious look. "You never cared about things that didn't concern you." It was true—Silas only paid attention to matters related to himself. Everything else, he couldn't be bothered. Silas raised a brow and said casually, "If I help you find him, how will you thank me?" Lucien was speechless. Indeed, Commander Hamblin never did anything for free. Lucien sighed. "Find him, and I'll agree to your last request." "Deal." Silas agreed without hesitation. Seeing how quickly Silas accepted, Lucien had the uneasy feeling he'd just been tricked again. "Where's the fish?" Lucien asked. Silas replied, "Emma and I went to feed the fish earlier and found the numbers had dropped a lot. I had the guards check, but they found nothing unusual."Lucien frowned. "You're saying he's been hiding in our lake all this time?" Aurelia had searched the whole planet and found nothing—not even a scale. And now it turned out the Merfolk King had been right under their noses. Lucien almost laughed out of sheer exasperation. If Kieran had been hiding in the estate all along, he must have known they were looking for him. He sure had nerves of steel! "I'll go fish him out and hand him back to the Merfolks myself." Lucien turned to leave. Lately, the Merfolks' elders had visited Aurelia daily, begging them to find their missing king. Even the queen was sick of hearing it. "He's not in the lake," Silas said, stopping him and pointing toward the distant fish tank. "He's probably hiding among the few little pink fish your sister gave Emma." Lucien froze. He had never suspected those fish—after all, they were a gift from Aria. Before giving them to Emma, his sister must have had them checked by the Aurelia Elders. It should've been impossible for there to be any problem. Silas continued, "And think about it. Kieran knows you've been searching for him, yet he's stayed hidden all this time, pretending to be an ordinary fish. Even if you confront him now, he'll never admit who he is. Why not invite a few of those Merfolks elders here to identify him? They should recognize their king, right?" Lucien thought it made sense. He quickly opened his lightcore and sent a message to his assistant, ordering him to bring the Merfolks' elders to the estate. When he finished, he looked over at Emma standing by the couch. "Emma, what do you want for lunch? Corvin went back to the Ravaryn, so I'll cook today." "I'm fine with anything," Emma said. She wasn't picky. Besides, all the dishes she had taught Lucien and Corvin to make were her favorites. Whatever they cooked, she liked. She glanced at Marcus, still sleeping on the couch.
