The Cherished Pet of Nine Beast Husbands
Once she handed them over, Emma finally exhaled. Silas carried the two troublemakers away and tossed them into a random guest room like luggage. Failed to protect their huntress and still expected to rest easy? Not happening. When he returned, Emma was already directing cleanup bots, sorting through the chaos left behind. "Emma," Silas said, stepping closer, "go get some sleep. I'll take care of this." She moved aside but didn't leave. Her gaze lingered on him as he worked, his motions calm and precise. "Didn't you say you had a meeting tonight?" she asked quietly. "Why did you come back?" Silas turned his head toward her.His eyes softened. "I had a surprise for you. I couldn't wait until morning." Good thing he had shown up. If she'd been alone through all that, she might've completely lost it. When the room was finally clean again, Silas gathered the fallen dragon scales and handed them to her. "Keep these," he said. "Tell Corvin to use them for your mech." Rank 11 dragon scales were priceless. Emma nodded and took them. "Alright." If Drake came back for them, she'd return them. If not, she'd keep them for herself. Silas' tone softened, though his expression stayed serious. "If anything like this happens again, call me right away. Even if I can't make it in time, I'll send help." Emma smiled faintly. "I didn't think it was dangerous." Drake could be difficult, but he wasn't cruel. He kept his word. She'd just lived alone for too long. When things went wrong, her first thought was to fix it herself, not ask for help. Silas knew that better than anyone. He'd planned to return to his meeting, but after tonight, there was no way he was leaving her alone. He switched the meeting to a virtual one instead. Then he walked her back to her room, quietly determined not to let anything else happen to her that night. Silas carried Emma to the bed with quiet care. He stayed beside her on one knee, his voice low and tender. "Emma, my flower bloomed." As he spoke, a blue vine slipped out from his hair. At the tip of it, a clear seven-petaled flower opened slowly, shimmering under the light like a crystal prism scattering rainbows across the room. Emma's lips parted in awe. "It's gorgeous." The petals glowed faintly, delicate as glass. She didn't even dare breathe too close. "Silas," she whispered, "do all your flowers grow out of your head?" He gave a quiet laugh. "Not always. I can make them bloom anywhere. I just chose here so it'd be easier for you to pick." When she hesitated, he tilted his head. "You don't want to pick it yourself?" Wasn't she planning to give it to Edric? Emma frowned slightly. "If I take it off, will it hurt you?" The flower looked like it was part of him, alive with his energy.Silas blinked, caught off guard by her concern. "It doesn't hurt," he said softly. His smile curved as the flower swayed with the motion of his head. Emma finally reached out, her fingers brushing the vine with extreme care. She pinched the stem lightly, afraid she might hurt him. When she plucked the flower, Silas suddenly leaned forward. He pressed her gently against the bed and kissed the space between her brows. He watched her close her fingers around the fragile blossom like it were something sacred. His voice was quiet, almost pleading. "Emma, you gave Edric a gift. Can I have one too? Anything. I won't ask for much." His eyes burned with hope. Emma's chest softened. She couldn't say no to that face. "Let me think," she murmured. "I'll find something for you." Silas brightened instantly."Alright." Then he gave her a teasing grin. "Do you want to shower? Should I help you?" Emma's eyes widened. "No." She didn't need that kind of help. Silas wasn't like Edric. He was a fae—one who could drain energy as easily as he breathed. If she let him in the bathroom, she doubted she'd make it back out alive. Silas gave a long sigh, clearly disappointed. "Fine. You rest. I'll go handle my meeting. Once it's over, I'll come back and keep you company." "Alright." She watched him leave, then looked down at the flower resting in her palm. It still pulsed faintly with light. She set it carefully inside her drawer before heading to the bathroom. After her shower, she went to the training room and absorbed two sixth-level beast cores. When she was done, she returned to bed and fell asleep without a single dream. Morning came quietly. When she opened her eyes, Lucien and Edric were kneeling at her door. Both had their heads bowed. "Emma, we're sorry," Lucien said first, his voice filled with guilt. "We didn't protect you last night." The pride usually in his eyes was gone. Edric didn't speak. He just stared at the floor, looking crushed. Silas appeared behind them, his tone cutting cold when he looked their way. Then he turned to Emma, his voice soft again. "Emma, Frostveil's delegation is here. They're waiting in the hall." He paused before adding quietly, "Drake came back too." Emma pressed her hand to her forehead. She stepped forward and reached for Lucien and Edric. "Get up already. Let's go see what this is about."
