The Alpha Warlord's Contracted Bride

Chapter 602 Family Breakfast

Judy’s POV I woke up to the smell of coffee brewing in the kitchen downstairs. I glanced at the time on the nightstand and saw that it was early; much too early for the staff to arrive and start cooking breakfast. Telling from the fact that Gavin wasn’t in bed beside me, I knew it had to be him in the kitchen. For a second, I just lay there, staring at the ceiling and thinking about my conversation with Gavin a couple of nights ago. We were planning on hunting down Coraline Blackwell tonight, now that it was Saturday, and Gavin promised me we would go this morning. Thankfully, last night was a dreamless sleep. Then again, I didn’t sleep deeply enough. I knew neither Gavin nor I slept that well last night. I could feel him all night… I could feel him right now. He was worried. He was always worried lately. I let out a breath and pushed the blankets off, forcing myself out of bed. The smell of bacon and coffee drifted down the hallway, making my mouth water and my stomach grumble. Both the baby and I were ravenous this morning. I didn’t make it far before I was nearly run over by Matt, who was quickly leaving his room. He froze and looked up at me, his eyes wide. “Sorry,” he murmured. “I really have to go to the bathroom.” He was doing a funny little dance like he was really holding in his bladder. I smiled down at him, forgetting that he’s still a little boy, despite how much he’s matured since I first met him. I rubbed his head, ruffling his hair. “Go on now,” I told him. I didn’t have to tell him twice; he jumped around me and ran straight down the hall and towards the nearest bathroom. I couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled out of me as I shook my head. Irene had already agreed to watch Matt this weekend while Gavin and I go on our road trip. I was thankful she was here to help, even if she wasn’t fully mentally here. I knew she was pretending to be okay because she didn’t want to worry anyone. After she spent a week in her room, avoiding everybody, she started to make more appearances. She spent the last couple of days with Nan and me, helping me with my wedding preparations. I think it’s been a good distraction for her, and planning this event was something she truly loved. I was happy to have her there to help, and her eye for detail was perfect. Irene even joined us for dinner last night, which was a pleasant surprise. Though I could still see the dark circles beneath her eyes, indicating her lack of sleep, and sometimes I see tears glisten in her bloodshot eyes, showing me that she still cries when she doesn’t think others are watching. She was in so much pain, and I was so determined to make sure she never had to feel that kind of pain again. Erik had been staying away from her these last few days because he knew that his presence would only make things worse and push her further away. I told him that I’ll fix this and figure out a way to break the hold Chuck has on her. He’s been impatiently texting me these last couple of days, wondering about my progress, and I keep telling him to give me more time. When I reached the kitchen, I paused at the entryway for a moment to admire what I was seeing in front of me. Gavin stood by the stove in a fitted black shirt, flipping eggs like someone who hadn’t been awake for most of the night. His hair was still damp from a shower, and he looked unfairly good. My mate was certainly the hottest man in this entire world, and my heart skipped a beat at the sight of him. I swear I fall a little bit more in love with him every time I see him. Sensing my presence, Gavin turned to look at me, his lips turning into a smirk when he noticed me checking him out. I wasn’t sorry about it; he was going to be my husband after all. Husband. I still couldn’t seem to get over that; I was going to be Gavin’s wife… his Luna. My heart swelled even more at the thought, and I felt heat creeping up my cheeks. “Good morning,” he said, his voice deep and sending a warmth throughout my entire body. “Morning,” I replied, my voice sounding breathy. He held out an arm for me, beckoning me to him, and I went like I was a bug drawn to the light. He wrapped his arm around me, pulling me against his hard body, and I molded against him like I was meant to be there and was created to fit him as perfectly as I did.His lips found mine, and heat coursed through me, lighting my face on fire. The reaction my body had towards him was as if this were all brand new. I hoped that feeling never went away. When he pulled back, I saw a twinkle of something in his eyes, and I couldn’t help the smile that stretched across my face. “We’ll leave after breakfast,” he tells me, and my heart nearly stops in my chest. “So, it’s official… we are leaving today…” It wasn’t a question, and I wasn’t entirely sure if I was talking to him or myself. He frowned as he stared around my face. “Isn’t that what you wanted?” He asked. “To meet with Coraline Blackwell and get answers?” I nodded without hesitation, but that didn’t make my nerves settle. “Yes,” I breathed. “It’s just a little overwhelming.” He reached over and brushed a strand of hair out of my face. “I’ll be there with you, and I won’t leave your side,” he assured me. The sound of the sizzling bacon brought his attention back to the stove. He continued to cook, and I stood there, watching him, my heart beating faster and faster. I wasn’t sure how I had gotten so lucky, but I felt like the luckiest woman in the entire world to be marrying Gavin Landry.I couldn’t help the stupid smile on my face or the way I felt so much lighter. He plated the food and handed me a couple of them. I brought them over to the table, and he brought over a couple to the table as well. As if they already knew that breakfast was ready, Irene and Matt rushed into the kitchen. “It smells so good in here,” Matt said, practically jumping on his toes. I sat at the table and motioned for him to sit as well. Gavin brought over a pot of coffee and a jug of orange juice, setting them both on the table in the center. Matt reached for the orange juice, and Irene sat down. “Good morning,” I say to her. She gave me a small smile. I could see that her eyes were a bit bloodshot, so I knew she spent the night crying, and she was still wearing one of Chuck’s sweatshirts. “Morning,” she said softly as she poured herself a cup of coffee. “Did you sleep okay?” I asked her, my eyes never leaving her face. She lifted one shoulder. “I slept fine,” she said, but the dark circles beneath her eyes proved otherwise. I decided not to push her; if she wanted to talk to me about what was going on in her mind, she would.“Are we doing more wedding planning today?” She asked, peeking up at me. I shook my head. “I figured we’d take a break for the weekend,” I told her. “Nan’s restaurant is the busiest over the weekend, so she’ll be super busy anyway. Plus, Gavin and I are going away until tomorrow. Don’t you remember? You promised you’d watch Matt this weekend.” She nodded. “Yes, I remember. I just wasn’t sure if there would be time to do some planning,” she said, sounding a bit disappointed. “I enjoy focusing on your wedding.” “Well, I mean, I’m sure you could find something to do that’ll make this wedding thing a bit easier. Just act as though you’re the wedding planner. I mean, you pretty much are.” Her face lit up, and her eyes widened. “Okay,” she breathed. “Thank you.” I nodded and started to eat my food. It was embarrassing how fast I ate… but I am eating for two after all. I took a large sip of orange juice, hating that I couldn’t have any of the coffee. We ate the rest of breakfast in silence, and by the time we finished, the villa staff arrived to start their day. Those who worked in the kitchen were surprised to see that we had already cooked and eaten our own breakfast. But they contributed by cleaning up the mess for us, and Gavin thanked them.Matt and Irene went off to do their own thing, and then Gavin turned to me, a determined look in his eyes. “Are you ready to go?” He asked. I took in a deep breath and then released it before nodding slowly. “I’m ready,” I told him. This was it... We were about to leave and meet the woman who could finally give us some answers. Now I just had to hope that she would give them to us. We were about to find out the kind of woman… or witch… Coraline Blackwell was.
