Stranded with the Goddess
"There's a water source nearby!" I exclaimed with delight to Lin Xian'er. Lin Xian'er nodded, and we couldn't help but quicken our pace. Half an hour later, Lin Xian'er and I stood on the shore of a shimmering lake. A gentle breeze blew towards us, and I opened my arms wide, feeling refreshed and invigorated, a sensation that had been long overdue. Lin Xian'er was also very happy; like me, she opened her arms to embrace nature. The breeze tousled her hair, and she closed her eyes with a slight smile. Lin Xian'er actually smiled, and it was the first time I had seen her do so. Watching her smile, I couldn't help but laugh along, the beautiful scenery of the lake completely lifting our gloomy mood from the past few days. After settling our emotions, I surveyed the surrounding environment and found no traces of wild beasts; it was safe here. Lin Xian'er went off alone to look for medicinal herbs. Glancing at my pocket watch, it was nearly 4 p.m., and we couldn't return to the cave, so we would have to spend the night by the lake. I prepared to hunt for game for dinner. Throughout our journey, I noticed that my physical strength was particularly good today, even my stone-throwing was quite accurate. Carrying my things, I wandered around the forest by the lake and saw several wild rabbits and pheasants; the resources here were too abundant. I tried throwing stones at the rabbits and pheasants, but after tossing out a dozen stones, only one rabbit was hit in the hind leg, and all the others ran away, while not a single pheasant was hit.
I chased a three-legged wild rabbit for a long distance and finally caught it on a pile of stones. Suddenly, I realized that the shape of the pile of stones in front of me resembled a grave! I walked around and found a rusty iron box on the other side of the stone pile. I twisted off the rabbit's head and threw it to the ground, then I pried open the lock of the iron box with an iron rod. Inside the box were four items, all wrapped in oilcloth. Smelling the long-missed scent of oil, I unwrapped the oilcloth one by one. A hammer, a chisel, an axe, and a whiskey bottle with something that looked like paper stuffed inside. At 5:30 PM, I returned to the meeting place I had agreed upon with Lin Xian'er, carrying five items. Lin Xian'er had been waiting there early, not only had she gathered all the herbs needed for Xi'er, but she had also collected a lot of firewood. I told Lin Xian'er about finding the iron box, and she was very interested in pouring out the contents of the whiskey bottle. It was a piece of parchment, covered in English writing. As the sky gradually darkened, I lit a fire, and Lin Xian'er, by the light of the flames, read through the English on the parchment intermittently. 'What does it say?' I asked curiously. Lin Xian'er hesitated for a long time before saying, 'This is a relic left by two British explorers from the Age of Great Voyages. They encountered a storm at sea and were stranded on this island. They discovered a valley that produced gold on the island, saying that the Gold Valley was right under a waterfall, and the back of this parchment is a map of the island.'
After finishing speaking, Lin Xian'er took the back of the parchment in her hands. The reverse side of the parchment was covered with dense lines, and I looked at the map, too excited to speak for a long time. 'This is great, we're saved!' I excitedly punched my thigh. 'Wait, I'll treat you to a big meal tonight!' Lin Xian'er smiled and nodded. Without further ado, I rolled up my sleeves and prepared to slaughter a wild rabbit. Lin Xian'er lowered her head, tucked her messy hair behind her ear, and said to me, 'By the way, Lu Yuan, I want to take a look around, I'll come back for dinner, is that okay?' I thought about it and there didn't seem to be any danger nearby, so I agreed. 'Okay, be careful, take a weapon with you, and shout if anything happens.' Saying this, I handed her the Type 92 pistol I had taken from Jiang Dandan. 'This is a Type 92 pistol, there are still 14 bullets left, I'll load it for you first, remember this is the safety, pull it down to fire.' Lin Xian'er was really smart, she learned it right away. She took the short iron rod and the pistol and went out, while I squatted by the lake with a military knife, starting to kill the wild rabbit. Bleeding, skinning, discarding the innards, then I washed it several times with lake water, it took me more than thirty minutes for this bit of work. I looked at my pocket watch, it was almost 7 o'clock, Lin Xian'er should be back. I was a bit worried, put down the processed wild rabbit, picked up the long iron rod and military knife, and went to find Lin Xian'er. 'Lin Xian'er!' 'Lin Xian'er!'
... I walked along the lakeshore under the moonlight, calling out as I went. Suddenly, I stumbled and almost fell. Looking down, I saw Lin Xian'er's iron rod beneath my feet, and next to it, her clothes. I paused for a moment, realizing that Lin Xian'er had come out to bathe in secret. 'Hey, all the stuff is here, but where is the person?' I said, scratching my head as I looked at the calm lake surface. Suddenly, the water in the distance rippled, and then a head popped up from the lake. 'Lin Xian'er?' I called out to the lake. Seeing me, Lin Xian'er in the water shouted in panic, 'Lu Yuan! What are you doing here!' I scratched my head and replied, 'You hadn't gone back for a long time, I was worried something had happened to you, so I came out to look for you.' Lin Xian'er shouted nervously at me, 'Thank you for your concern! Turn around! Go further away! And don't look back!' I turned around awkwardly and said, 'Alright, alright, I won't look back, I won't watch.' 'Besides, I wouldn't dare, Miss. You have a gun, and if you're unhappy, you might just shoot me on the spot, and I wouldn't even have the chance to cry,' I thought to myself. I turned and walked a few steps but didn't go far, then I heard a rustling sound of water.
