Beneath the Crimson Moon

Chapter 17: Endless Revenge

Qin Ran brought Lu Xin to the back of their transportation factory, where there were many abandoned factories and warehouses, surrounded by rusted scrap iron and overgrown weeds. Qin Ran headed straight for an underground warehouse with a blue-painted iron gate. "This is the place!" Before Qin Ran pulled open the iron door on the ground, he took a few breaths and glanced at Lu Xin. Then he unlocked the padlock on the iron door, pulled it open with a creak, revealing the entrance. A pungent, suffocating stench hit them. Lu Xin covered his nose and stepped back, then approached again to take a look. The underground warehouse looked like a large pit, sealed with concrete, with some standing water inside. It was about five meters long, seven meters wide, and approximately four meters deep. At the bottom, several iron rings were nailed in place, and from these rings, iron chains were attached. What was most chilling was that the chains were linked to something red and mushy. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be arms. At the bottom of the pit, there were also some semi-rotten pieces of flesh, which Lu Xin quickly identified. He couldn't help but frown and say, "That's really scary." Qin Ran glanced at him and said, "Young man, your expression doesn't seem like one of fear." "We were really scared at that time!"

He paused for a moment before continuing, "Damn it, when those four guys rushed into my house, they really gave me a scare. And this whole thing is too bizarre; I didn't dare to kill them right away, so I locked them in here, thinking to interrogate them properly and find out who was pulling the strings behind this. But I didn't expect that after locking these four bastards in here, they actually... actually went fucking crazy."

Perhaps noticing his own voice trembling, he deliberately spat forcefully into the pit, using anger to mask his fear, and said, "They turned out to be lunatics. I didn't kill them; I just locked them in here. But before I had the chance to interrogate them, they started fighting each other. They... they just started biting each other..."

Suddenly, he looked up at Lu Xin, his eyes bloodshot and filled with uncontrollable fear, "Can you imagine?"

"These guys are still human, but they acted like dogs, biting each other... and not just biting, they were eating. They tore at each other and then ate the flesh they bit off. Some of them had their bellies split open, but they kept eating..."

"At that moment... I couldn't stand to see that anymore, so I shot them all with my gun..."

"And the first time I used a gun to kill someone, I felt like I was doing the right thing..."

As he spoke, he suddenly exerted force and slammed the iron door shut, emitting a loud "clang."

"What the hell are these things?"

He stared intently at Lu Xin and said, 'Since you've come to ask, you must know something. Tell me quickly...' 'What on earth are these things?' '...' Lu Xin realized that his emotions were somewhat abnormal. But this was also natural; even if he was a ruthless big shot, encountering such things would be frightening. He might not fear death at all. But such unexplainable matters bring about a sense of fear... ... 'This is completely different from what happened in the coffee shop before, but it's also clearly abnormal...' After listening to his account, Lu Xin's mind also quickly started racing: 'Who caused these strange occurrences, the first seemingly abnormal Old Cui, or something else? Moreover, it seems that there are some traces to follow in the incidents he encountered. One person came to seek revenge on the first day, two on the second, four on the fourth, so...' Lu Xin's heart jolted, and he hurriedly asked Qin Ran, 'How many days has it been since they last came?' Qin Ran obviously knew that Lu Xin had guessed something, and with reddened eyes, he slowly replied, 'It's been seven days!' 'Seven days?' Lu Xin's face darkened a bit; tomorrow would be the eighth day. If it really followed this pattern, wouldn't another eight come soon? 'Wait for me a moment, I need to report this.'

Lu Xin thought of what Chen Jing had told him before, and shook his head, ready to take out his satellite phone. But Qin Ran watched coldly from the side, and suddenly picked up an axe from the ground, aiming it at Lu Xin. His voice was deep and fierce as he said, 'Kid, I've got quite a few lives on my hands, and these few guys can't threaten me. Don't talk about four or eight, even if a dozen come, I'm not afraid. At worst, I'll just not stay in this crappy city and continue to be my own boss outside. But don't you... 'Don't think about taking advantage of this opportunity to scheme against me...' '...' 'Axe...' Lu Xin glanced at his backpack, wondering where he got the confidence to threaten him. 'Even if you have two guns, there are so many people outside, you can't escape if something happens!' Qin Ran stared coldly at Lu Xin, as if explaining something, although he felt guilty, he still sounded firm. 'I'm definitely able to get away, but that's not the point.' Lu Xin shook his head and said to Qin Ran, 'If you're not afraid of four, or eight, what about sixteen?' Qin Ran's gaze turned cold, and his Adam's apple seemed to move. Lu Xin continued, 'That Old Cui, does he know where you live?' Qin Ran seemed a bit panicked, his voice hoarse as he asked, 'Why do you ask that?' Lu Xin said, 'You just mentioned that he came to find you here at first, but the third time, he went straight to your house. Have you ever thought that maybe no matter where you hide, they can find you?'

Qin Ran's palm noticeably trembled: 'How could this be possible...' Lu Xin said: 'These matters are inherently strange, there is no such thing as impossible.'

Based on the current pattern, it seems that more and more people will come to seek revenge on him, and no one knows how many there will be if this continues. If only a few or a dozen people come for revenge, it might not be much of a problem for someone as ruthless and fierce as Qin Ran. But what if the number reaches dozens, or even hundreds? Lu Xin could already imagine the scene of hundreds of people frantically chasing Qin Ran across the wasteland... Theoretically, is there a day when everyone in the world will be hunting him down? And these people are fearless of death or injury, and they might even be able to find you wherever you are. Relentless until death! The main point is, they won't stop until you're dead! ...... Qin Ran was clearly getting scared, his hand gripping the axe trembling, he said hoarsely, 'I don't want to go to the frontier...' He still had some doubts about Lu Xin. Although those in their line of work usually keep good relations with all parties within the city walls, there's always the chance that some big shot might take a dislike to him and pull him out like a nail. This was also the reason why he hadn't thought of reporting these strange occurrences to the Guard Bureau. Firstly, it was hard to explain, and secondly, he couldn't trust them! He knew who the real bosses were in the city, and a single thought from them could mean spending the rest of his life on a farm outside the city! 'Going to the frontier is better than dying...' Lu Xin understood his thoughts, glanced at the basement with its lid closed, then shook his head: 'Or being eaten by someone stronger.'

Qin Ran's pupils tightened, and the hair on his body stood slightly on end. After what seemed like an internal struggle, he slowly lowered the axe and said in a hoarse voice, 'I believe you!' '...' 'As if you could doubt it...' Lu Xin muttered to himself, walked aside, dialed a phone, and then changed his tone: 'Hello, is this Colonel Chen?'
