Soldier King Reborn

Chapter 10: Crisis Evacuation

Suddenly, Luo Zheng, who was leaning against the big tree, moved. He turned around and stepped out, his gun firing in response, "Bang! Bang! Bang!" Three shots in quick succession, and Luo Zheng saw a man with a face full of horror collapse to the ground, his eyes filled with unwillingness and confusion, as well as a desire for life.

After succeeding, Luo Zheng leaned against the big tree, gasping for air, his heart pounding violently. He was so nervous that he had forgotten this was his first time killing someone. His palms were covered in cold sweat, and his back was soaked through.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!" Three bullets hit the big tree. Luo Zheng jolted awake and quickly lay down, feeling a burning sensation on his scalp. He reached up to touch it and found that the bullet had grazed his scalp. Angered, he rolled over and hid behind another large tree next to him, narrowly escaping death again and again. Luo Zheng had forgotten his fear, his heart now filled only with anger and the desire for revenge.

On the battlefield, no one expected Luo Zheng's variable, nor did they expect him to kill using such a passive strategy. The enemy became enraged, bullets raining down on the tree where Luo Zheng was hiding as if they were free. Fortunately, the tree Luo Zheng was hiding behind was as thick as four men's arms, with hard wood that was not easily penetrated.

Luo Zheng was eager to kill the enemy, but facing strong opponents, he wisely chose to remain hidden. Amidst the sound of gunfire, an unusual bullet sound was concealed, followed by a scream. The forest quieted down, leaving only the rustling of the treetops in the wind. Luo Zheng guessed that it was the female soldier who had taken action, but he still dared not move rashly, not knowing how many more strong enemies were lurking deep in the forest.

"Dadada!"

Suddenly, a burst of dense automatic assault rifle fire erupted from the depths of the forest, startling Luo Zheng. He turned to look and saw many people rushing out from the thick woods, their identities unknown. Judging by the direction of the shooting, it was feared that enemy reinforcements had arrived. "Retreat quickly," a cold female voice suddenly drifted from not far away. The voice was very familiar, and Luo Zheng didn't need to look to know it was the female soldier. As he was about to evacuate, he saw the weapon discarded by the enemy he had killed not far away. He decisively pounced on it, grabbed the gun, and rolled to the side quickly. He heard the sound of a bullet whizzing by his ear and didn't dare to look back. He quickly got up and ran wildly towards the east, bowing his back. Thinking about what the female soldier had mentioned earlier about 'zigzag running' and 'feint running,' he didn't quite understand, but guessed that zigzag running meant running in a winding manner. So he kept changing direction and ran desperately with his legs spread. The female soldier covering the retreat saw Luo Zheng running and a hint of surprise appeared on her frosty face, but she quickly regained her cold composure. She fired her gun to stop an enemy attempting to pursue, waited for a moment, and seeing that the enemy reinforcements were about to arrive, she also decisively retreated. With a few swift movements, she disappeared from sight, her actions incredibly fast. After running wildly for a while, Luo Zheng felt as if his chest was so constricted he could hardly breathe. He hurriedly slowed down and stopped after his breathing became a bit easier. Looking at the sky darkening, he saw that the female soldier had not followed up, which made him worry. It would be troublesome to move after dark. He didn't know where his backpack had gone, and without food or drink, the night ahead would not be easy. "Why have you stopped?"

A cold female voice suddenly came from the woods. Upon hearing this icy voice, Luo Zheng's heart relaxed. He looked in the direction of the sound and saw the female soldier approaching, her steps a bit unsteady. Suddenly remembering that she had a wound on her thigh, he hurried over to support her. But when he encountered the female soldier's cold gaze, his outstretched hand awkwardly stopped in mid-air. He smiled sheepishly and said, 'It's going to get dark soon, what should we do next?' The female soldier did not answer Luo Zheng's question, but instead coldly observed her surroundings. She looked up at the sky; the North Star was already out. The female soldier lowered her head in deep thought, her mind unknown. After a while, without any unnecessary words, she chose a direction and walked forward. Luo Zheng could tell that this female soldier disliked chatter and was too lazy to say much, so he followed closely behind, while taking a look at the high-grade weapon he had risked his life to seize. Unfortunately, he couldn't understand it, nor did he know how to use it, so he immediately said, 'I don't know how to use this gun, you take it. A pistol is fine for me.' The female soldier suddenly paused, stopped, slung the gun on her back, took the gun, glanced at it, and said, 'M16A4 automatic rifle, effective range 600m, magazine capacity 30.'

As she spoke, she quickly disassembled the magazine, glanced inside, and saw that it was still half full. She snapped the magazine back into place with a practiced ease that left Luo Zheng staring in awe and filled with envy. This was what a soldier was supposed to be. 'Equipped with an optical sight package, including an AN/PEQ-5 laser designator, holographic diffraction sight (HDS), and AN/PVS-14 night vision aiming system, it features three firing modes: single shot, burst fire, and fully automatic,' the female soldier explained to Luo Zheng with an unemotional face. As she explained, she disassembled the components to check them, and finally instructed Luo Zheng on how to release the safety and fire the weapon, then handed the gun to him. Luo Zheng watched the female soldier in a daze. Although her explanation had been detailed, he only remembered most of it. Fortunately, he had grasped the crucial actions of releasing the safety and firing, but he didn't take the gun, saying self-mockingly, 'Not to hide it from you, I'm pretty good with a homemade shotgun. I often played with them during hunting as a kid. I only fired a few rounds with this gun back in basic training, and I've never touched such high-grade equipment. It would be a waste in my hands.' 'Treat it like a homemade shotgun,' the female soldier said coldly, tossing the gun to Luo Zheng before turning and walking away. 'Uh?'

Luo Zheng looked on in surprise as the female soldier turned and walked away. Her camouflage uniform was covered in mud, yet it added a touch of valor to her, presenting a unique kind of beauty. Luo Zheng quickly cast aside the jumbled thoughts in his mind and hurried after her, carefully asking about the usage of the gun. The female soldier was forthcoming, answering all his questions without reservation.

In no time, Luo Zheng had essentially mastered the use of the gun and began to fiddle with it fondly. As a soldier himself, Luo Zheng had a deep affection for guns. He activated the night vision aiming feature and occasionally aimed at the path ahead, growing excited. He asked, 'Hey, I can't keep calling you 'hey,' it's impolite. My name is Luo Zheng, what's yours?'

The female soldier suddenly stopped, turned to look at Luo Zheng, and her cold eyes were filled with scrutiny, making Luo Zheng's scalp tingle. She then turned back and continued on her way without saying a word. Luo Zheng dared not ask the question again and hurriedly followed, continuing to toy with the weapon in his hand.

Soon, it was so dark that the path was invisible. The female soldier suddenly stopped, looked around, and found a place to sit and rest, completely ignoring Luo Zheng. Luo Zheng had no choice but to find a spot not far away to sit down and rest himself, using the gun's sight to observe the surroundings. He saw nothing but trees, lush and green, stretching endlessly. He immediately said, 'You rest for a while, I'll keep watch.'
