Free in the Flowers

Chapter 9: Heartbroken Heart

"Rascal... let go of your stinky hand, how dare you take advantage of me," Wang Min screamed, pushing Zhang Wei away.

Because it was summer, the shirt was very thin. Wang Min's plump chest was pressed against Zhang Wei's chest, and they could even feel each other's body temperature. Zhang Wei's right hand was pinching her buttocks, which made her delicate body tremble as if she had been electrocuted. The blush on her face spread along her neck to her body.

"It was you who threw yourself at me. Don't blame me!" Zhang Wei spread his hands, showing an innocent look, and said.

"Even if I bumped into you, you can't touch me with your hands... You are simply a big rascal." Wang Min originally wanted to talk about Zhang Wei pinching her buttocks, but she was too embarrassed to say it.

"Stop arguing, both of you. It's all my fault. A car suddenly cut in just now. Otherwise, I wouldn't have made a sudden turn," the driver heard that they were arguing and took the initiative to apologize. "Are you two alright?"

"It's just a slight touch. Nothing serious." Seeing that the driver was sincere, Zhang Wei wouldn't be unrelenting and said politely.

"You're fine! I think you are just hoping to take advantage of me."

Wang Min said irritably. Zhang Wei saw from the rearview mirror that the driver's mouth was pursed up, as if he was snickering, which made Zhang Wei's face show a hint of embarrassment. Although his previous action was instinctive, he indeed took advantage of the other party, and it was embarrassing to argue with Wang Min anymore. He leaned back against the pillow chair and closed his eyes to rest. Seeing Zhang Wei next to him closing his eyes and pretending to sleep, Wang Min wanted to open her mouth and mock him a few more times, but she was afraid of making the driver laugh at them. She snorted coldly and turned her head to look out the car window. The alcohol from before had completely vanished in the excitement just now. During the remaining few minutes, Zhang Wei and Wang Min didn't say another word until the taxi arrived at Yayuan Residential Area. Wang Min got out of the car and left without even glancing at Zhang Wei, while Zhang Wei stayed behind to settle the fare with the driver before following Wang Min. Yayuan Residential Area is considered a high-end neighborhood in Beijing, with streetlights on at night, so the sidewalks on both sides are very bright. Zhang Wei and Wang Min both live in the same basement in the neighborhood, so they were heading in the same direction. Zhang Wei followed behind Wang Min, whose black mini skirt just covered her buttocks, revealing her two snow-white long legs. As she walked, her willowy waist swayed slightly, and the contours of her buttocks appeared and disappeared from time to time. Her two snow-white thighs swayed left and right, immediately attracting Zhang Wei's gaze. Just as Zhang Wei's eyes were fixed on her plump buttocks, Wang Min suddenly stopped in her tracks, turned her head to look at Zhang Wei, and found him staring at her sensitive area. Her cheeks flushed red, and she spat out, 'Zhang Wei, you dirty scoundrel, where are you staring at!'

"Cough..." Zhang Wei quickly withdrew his gaze, and to cover his embarrassment, he cleared his throat and said, "You misunderstood, I was just looking ahead." "Tsk, do you think I'm blind, unable to tell that you were staring at my buttocks?" Wang Min scolded in a coquettish tone. "Walk ahead." "Sure." Seeing Wang Min watching him as if he were a thief, Zhang Wei casually shrugged and stepped forward. "Given your lecherous nature, even if you weren't the one who spread the word about my divorce, don't expect me to give you any favors," Wang Min said coldly from behind Zhang Wei. "As long as you don't team up with Guo Bin to scheme against me, I don't care," Zhang Wei responded, knowing that he had resolved the grudge with her. As for whether she truly saw him as a lecher, Zhang Wei didn't mind. "Do you think I wanted to cooperate with that fool? He's so stupid he got himself drunk with alcohol, such a good-looking but useless fool," Wang Min said coldly. "That's good."

A hint of a smile appeared on Zhang Wei's face as he realized that the enmity with Wang Min could be resolved, which lightened his heart a bit. He strode along and in less than two minutes, he arrived at his residence.

Zhang Wei lived on the second floor of the basement of Building No. 1 in the community, and the entrance to the basement was at the back of Building No. 1. Looking down from the entrance, it resembled an air-raid shelter. As he went down the stairs along the first floor, the surrounding air became more and more humid, accompanied by a musty smell.

Once Zhang Wei entered the basement, his good mood immediately vanished. He turned his head to glance at Wang Min following behind him and noticed a hint of helplessness on her face too. Who would choose to live in such a place if they had money?

Apart from the dampness, the basement was warm in winter and cool in summer, and relatively quiet. Zhang Wei walked along the maze-like corridor, turning several corners before reaching his own room, with Wang Min's room right next to his.

Zhang Wei intended to greet Wang Min before heading home, but unexpectedly, Wang Min didn't go straight to her room. Instead, she bypassed him and went to the communal washroom. Zhang Wei wouldn't be so presumptuous as to call out to her from behind. He took out the key from his pocket, unlocked the door, and entered a small room of less than eight square meters. Apart from a single bed and a wooden table, the room was almost empty, as bare as a cell.

Zhang Wei stripped off his suit, kicked off his shoes, threw his phone onto the bedside table, and collapsed onto the single bed. He turned over, pulled the quilt over himself, and fell into a groggy slumber. "Dinglingling..."

Whether it was because he was knocked out during the day or because he had drunk alcohol, Zhang Wei slept particularly soundly that night and wasn't suddenly awakened until the alarm clock rang the next day.

Zhang Wei yawned, felt his head, and no longer felt the pain. He sat up, got out of bed, took his toiletries to the washroom to wash up. After grooming himself, he combed his hair, put on a shirt and suit, skillfully tied his tie, and stepped into his leather shoes before walking out of the room. All these actions were performed smoothly and effortlessly, having long become a specific habit. The whole process only took a little over ten minutes.

Stepping out of the basement and feeling the dry air around him, Zhang Wei felt exceptionally comfortable. Although the air quality in Beijing was average and lacked the freshness of nature, it was much better than that in the basement.

Zhang Wei had always had a wish, which was to move out of the basement and live in an apartment building. Every morning, he could open the window, breathe in fresh air, and look at the outside world, instead of living in a dark and gloomy basement that felt like a prison. However, for Zhang Wei, whose salary was only 2,000 yuan and was barely making ends meet, this wish was still somewhat far-fetched and extravagant.

The Zhongtong store was just below Building No. 4, less than a few hundred meters away from Building No. 1 where Zhang Wei lived, and it only took a few minutes to walk there. Living close to the company was the most direct advantage of staying in the basement. After all, the real estate industry usually started work at eight or nine in the morning and ended at nine or ten in the evening, working at least thirteen or fourteen hours a day. If the distance between work and home was far, it would take another two or three hours just to commute, which would wear out even the strongest person.

By now, it was already half-past nine in the morning, and the Zhongtong store had long been open for business. Zhang Wei strode into the store, saw the clerks looking at computers and taking notes, and revealed a smile. He said loudly, "Good morning, everyone."

"Good morning," Guo Bin, who was closest to the door, responded instinctively without even lifting his head. "Oh, look at you, someone who closed a deal is full of energy and vigor!" Wang Min snorted with a hint of mockery. Hearing Wang Min's teasing, Zhang Wei couldn't help but shake his head and smile. Before leaving home, he had deliberately glanced at Wang Min's door, but he had gotten up a bit late, and Wang Min had already left for work. Yet, she still greeted him with sarcasm the next day. If Wang Min's previous hostility towards Zhang Wei was due to her suspicion that he was speaking ill of her behind her back, now her mockery was because of Zhang Wei's frivolous behavior towards her last night. Zhang Wei was very much aware of this, but he just smiled and didn't take it to heart. "Zhang Wei, I heard you closed a deal yesterday, congratulations!" A crisp voice came from the back row. Zhang Wei looked up and saw it was his assistant, Wen Fang. Wen Fang, 22 years old and freshly graduated from university, had a beautiful face and a graceful figure, belonging to the intellectual beauty type. She hadn't joined the dinner last night because she had the day off. "Thank you," Zhang Wei said with a smile as he walked over to the assistant's position and pressed the fingerprint attendance machine. "Just saying thank you won't do. You have to treat me to a meal, otherwise I'll hold onto the contract you signed and not report it to the company headquarters, so you won't get a penny," Wen Fang threatened with a laugh. "I'd be more than happy to treat a beautiful lady to a meal. Whenever you're available, I'm at your service," Zhang Wei said. "Alright then! Since Zhang Wei is treating, I'll join too."

As Guo Bin spoke, he walked over to Wen Fang's desk, licking his face as he said, 'Wen Fang is young and beautiful, and a university graduate, making her the ideal lover for many young men. Guo Bin had long harbored feelings for Wen Fang, but every time he reached the crucial moment of confession, he would stutter and break off. However, he continued to adore her secretly. Hearing that Wen Fang was initiatively talking to Zhang Wei and even asked him to treat her to a meal, Guo Bin immediately approached like a dog guarding its food, interrupting their conversation. 'Guo Bin, didn't you go to the meal Zhang Wei treated everyone to yesterday? You got so drunk you didn't know what you were doing, vomiting all over yourself, and you still have the nerve to follow him around!' Wang Jianfa mocked, having almost been annoyed to death by Guo Bin the night before when he took him home. 'Yesterday was an accident... an accident,' Guo Bin said with a sheepish smile on his face when he heard Wang Jianfa exposing his shortcomings in public. 'An accident... When I was taking you home, you started acting crazy from the middle of the road. If it weren't for me holding you back, you would have almost gotten into a fight with a dog,' Wang Jianfa revealed. 'A human fighting with a dog, I've never seen that before, who won between the two of them?' Wang Min asked unexpectedly. 'Do you even need to ask? Guo Bin is standing here just fine, he must have won, right!'

Li Lin replied with a startling answer that she wouldn't stop until it was shocking. "Pfft..." Hearing the question and answer between these people, Wen Fang and Zhang Wei couldn't help but burst into laughter, even Xu Ming sitting in the office started laughing loudly. Hearing the teasing words from everyone, Guo Bin's face turned red in an instant. Thinking about how embarrassed he was in front of Wen Fang, his heart felt as if it had been shattered, and the laughter of everyone was like pouring salt on his wound.
