Reborn in Flames
Caught off guard, Chu Suosuo was slapped several times, leaving her dazed. Her face burned with pain, her ears buzzed, and stars danced before her eyes. Growing up, no one had ever dared to lay a finger on her. Furious, she grabbed the other person's arm and scratched wildly. The two of them tussled together. The Chu family driver, who had been hiding in the corner, hurried over and forcefully pulled them apart. It was then that Chu Suosuo saw that the person who hit her was Gu Beixian's younger sister, Gu Nanyin, and she was immediately stunned. Su Huan was also very surprised to see Gu Nanyin. Fearing she would be bullied, Su Huan hurried over and shielded her behind her. Glancing sideways, she saw that Gu Nanyin's wrist had been scratched bloody by Chu Suosuo. Su Huan felt a pang of pain in her heart, took out a band-aid from her bag, and carefully applied it, softly asking, "Does it hurt?" Gu Nanyin winced in pain and said, "It's okay, sister-in-law, she didn't scratch your face, did she?" Su Huan shook her head, "No." Gu Nanyin glared at Chu Suosuo angrily and said, "With that kind of person, you don't need to be polite at all, just slap her directly, what's the point of reasoning with her? Reasoning is for people who listen, not her!" Upon hearing this, Chu Suosuo was furious. She suppressed her anger, squeezed out two tears forcefully, and said plaintively, "Nanyin, we've grown up together since we were a child, I've always treated you as my own sister, how could you..." Gu Nanyin rolled her eyes at her, "Give me a break, I don't have a sister like you. My brother has been so good to you, our whole family has been so good to you, and yet when my brother had an accident, you ran faster than a rabbit."
Now that my brother's leg is better and everything is back to normal, you come back to poach and even bully my sister-in-law. Have you no shame?"
Chu Suosuo's face turned pale and then red, "I have my reasons..."
"Reasons my foot, my brother might believe you, but I sure don't!"
As soon as Gu Nanyin finished speaking, Su Huan's phone rang.
Glancing at the caller ID, it was from Gu Beixian.
Su Huan hesitated for a second before answering.
Gu Beixian asked, "Where are you?"
"At the Western restaurant south of the main entrance of the Antique Street."
"I'm passing by, I'll be there in three minutes." He hung up the phone.
The image of him and Chu Suosuo embracing last night flashed through his mind, making Su Huan's heart feel uncomfortable.
Seeing the white roses he gave to Chu Suosuo on the table, her chest felt even more congested, as if a huge stone was pressing down on it, making it hard to breathe.
A few minutes later, Gu Beixian walked into the restaurant with his men.
He was tall and upright, with cold white skin and particularly handsome features. Under his black trousers, a pair of long legs carried him with the stride of the wind, and every move exuded an air of noble elegance, charming and irresistible to the eyes.
Originally, the people in the restaurant were attracted by the fight between Chu Suosuo and Gu Nanyin.
But as soon as Gu Beixian appeared, all eyes turned to him.
Seeing him, Chu Suosuo's eyes lit up, and she ran towards him, choking back sobs and calling out, "Brother Beixian!"
Gu Beixian's brow furrowed, "Why are you here too?"
Chu Suosuo, with red eyes, said pitifully, "I came to find Sister Huan to explain last night's incident, but before we could talk much, she scolded me, and Nanyin even hit me."
She pointed to her swollen cheek and pouted, coquettishly complaining, "It hurts so much."
Gu Beixian glanced sideways at Su Huan and asked, 'Is what she said true?' Su Huan smiled. She had not expected that the longed-for white moonlight in his heart was such a person, not only heartless and ungrateful, but also slanderous, accusing others before they were accused. Indeed, those who are favored are always fearless. Just as Su Huan was about to speak, Gu Nanyin hurriedly said, 'Brother, don't you think? My sister-in-law is such a good-tempered person. Would she curse anyone if it weren't for Chu Suosuo provoking her? During those two years when you were unwell and so irritable, did she ever argue with you face to face? Why did I hit Chu Suosuo? It's because she was going to scratch my sister-in-law's face, and I even think I didn't hit her hard enough.' Gu Beixian looked at Chu Suosuo and asked, 'How did you provoke Su Huan? Why did you want to scratch her face?' Chu Suosuo's face turned pale, and tears flowed out in a rush. She said pitifully, 'I didn't. Sister Su Huan and Nanyin misunderstood me. Brother Beixian, you have to believe me.' She reached out to grab Gu Beixian's hand and leaned her body towards his embrace. Gu Nanyin stepped forward, grabbed her arm, and yanked her aside, scolding, 'Are you boneless, or do you have a problem? My brother is a married man, and you still try to cozy up to him? You spineless creature! Shameless!' Chu Suosuo clutched her chest in pain, tears falling like broken beads. Gu Beixian slightly furrowed his brows and said to Gu Nanyin, 'Say less. Suosuo has severe depression. Don't provoke her.' Gu Nanyin sneered, 'Don't use depression as an excuse for being shameless. I've seen many people with depression, and they are all self-respecting, kind, and beautiful. Not like her, who doesn't want to be a good person and insists on being a troublemaker!'
Chu Suosuo cried out in pain, covering her mouth as she stumbled and ran out. Her driver hurriedly picked up her bag and check, chasing after her. Gu Beixian turned back and instructed his bodyguard, 'Follow her and keep an eye on her, don't let her commit suicide again.' 'Okay, President Gu,' the bodyguard followed out. Gu Nanyin snorted, 'If you really want to die, just find a place where no one is around and die directly. Who are you scaring with all that crying?' Gu Beixian's eyes cooled slightly, and he reprimanded, 'Nanyin, that's too much!' Su Huan shielded Gu Nanyin behind her and said, 'If you have to blame someone, blame me. Nanyin is standing up for me.' Looking at Su Huan, Gu Beixian's gaze softened, and he took out a tube of imported ointment from his bag and handed it over, 'This is scar removal cream that someone sent from abroad. Apply it according to the instructions, and don't let the wound on your neck leave a scar.' Su Huan stared at the tube of ointment, feeling mixed emotions. She knew he didn't love her, but sometimes it felt like he did care about her. Soon, she laughed at herself self-mockingly, if he really cared, how could last night's incident have happened? Last night was too painful. The pain was so intense that she had lost the courage to question. Gu Nanyin took it and stuffed it into Su Huan's hand, glaring at Gu Beixian and saying, 'Brother, if you dare to let down my sister-in-law, I won't acknowledge you as my brother anymore!' Gu Beixian said indifferently, 'Adults' matters, kids shouldn't meddle.' 'I'm only a year younger than my sister-in-law, I'm not a kid!' Gu Beixian ignored her, took Su Huan's hand, and said softly, 'Have you eaten? If not, I'll take you to eat.' Su Huan jerked her hand away as if electrocuted, 'I'm full.'
Gu Beixian looked down at her, his gaze especially tender, 'Do you believe me when I say that what happened last night was a misunderstanding?' Su Huan straightened her neck, her usually gentle voice a bit sharp, 'It was just bad timing on my part, disturbing you.' Gu Beixian's smile was profound, with a hint of helplessness, 'Forget it, let me take you back.' Su Huan picked up her bag and walked out. Gu Beixian strode after her with his long legs, his assistant following at a distance. After leaving the Western restaurant and passing by a flower shop, Su Huan pushed the door and walked in. She looked around and pointed to a bunch of white roses, 'I'll take this bunch.' The clerk asked, 'How many would you like, ma'am?' Thinking of the twenty roses Gu Beixian had given to Chu Suosuo, Su Huan said defiantly, 'I'll take two hundred.' The clerk paused for a moment, then smiled, 'Please wait a moment.' After a long wait, the flowers were finally wrapped, and Su Huan understood why the clerk had paused. Two hundred roses, once wrapped, had a diameter of nearly one meter. They were very large and heavy. She held them with difficulty, but felt very satisfied. If she wanted flowers, why should she wait for someone else to give them to her? She could afford to buy her own. Gu Beixian took out his card to pay, but Su Huan handed the card back, saying, 'I have my own money.'
"She spoke with conviction. The money was hers, earned from her job. Gu Beixian smiled faintly, knowing she was acting out of spite. After paying the bill, Su Huan walked out holding an enormous bunch of white roses. The large bouquet made her figure seem even more slender, like a tall, straight bamboo shoot, delicate yet resilient. Gu Beixian reached out to take it. Su Huan dodged to the side, avoiding his hand. Gu Beixian's hand froze in mid-air before slowly retracting a second later. The two walked side by side. Looking at the dense roses in her arms, Gu Beixian asked, 'Do you like white roses too?' 'I don't.' 'Then why buy so many?' 'Hmm!' The corners of Gu Beixian's eyes crinkled with amusement, 'I didn't expect you to like flowers; I thought you only liked painting.' 'I'm a woman too!' Having grown accustomed to her good-natured demeanor, it was the first time he saw her looking so indignant, which Gu Beixian found refreshing, 'Then what kind of flowers do you like? I'll send them to you next time.' Su Huan pursed her lips and remained silent. She had lived at the foot of the mountain with her maternal grandparents since childhood, and she liked the wild orchids, dandelions of the mountains, as well as the irises, sweet peas, and sunflowers planted under the window. She had an emotional attachment to these simple and resilient flowers, but she felt nothing for the expensive and delicate imported roses in her arms. Buying so many was purely out of stubbornness. As they approached the Gu Bao Zhai antique shop, Su Huan suddenly stopped and said, 'Don't send me any more.' Gu Beixian raised an eyebrow, 'Afraid your colleagues will see me?' 'We're going to get a divorce sooner or later, aren't we?'
Her voice trembled slightly, and her heart quivered. In this situation, whether to leave or not was like being cut by a dull knife, the pain dragging on endlessly. Gu Beixian fell silent for a moment, stopped in his tracks, and watched her figure gradually disappear into the distance, his eyes as deep as a tranquil sea. Su Huan arrived at the entrance of the Ancient Treasure Shop and met the young owner of the shop, Shen Huai. He smiled, "Such a big bouquet of flowers, from your boyfriend?" "No, I bought them myself." Shen Huai's smile deepened, "They must be heavy, let me carry them for you." Su Huan handed the flowers to him, smiling, "Thank you." Shen Huai said half-jokingly, "You're the backbone of our shop, what's carrying a bunch of flowers for you?" "Master Shen is joking." The two chatted and laughed, walking into the shop side by side. Gu Beixian stood there, tall and handsome, watching from a distance, his gaze cold and chilling. He couldn't pinpoint the feeling. It was as if someone had let a pig into his carefully nurtured cabbage garden of three years. He almost instinctively wanted to drive the pig away. Only then did he realize that he was not as magnanimous as he had thought. Tapping his tongue against his lower jaw, Gu Beixian instructed his assistant behind him, "Find out about that man." "Okay, President Gu." The two got into the car and headed back to the company. Half an hour later. The assistant answered a call and reported to Gu Beixian, "President Gu, that man's name is Shen Huai, he's a doctor, and the Ancient Treasure Shop belongs to his grandfather. Three years ago, he had call records with the young mistress." Gu Beixian lifted his gaze, a cold light flashing in his eyes, "Find out Shen Huai's childhood nickname, see if it's A Yao."
