Reborn in Flames
Until Gu Beixian's car was out of sight, Su Huan stood still, staring straight in the direction where the car had disappeared. She couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart; it was a bit empty, a sense of loss. The wind whisked up the leaves, swirling and circling at her feet. After standing for a while longer, Su Huan turned and went back to her grandfather's house. She took the keys and entered the east wing room, which was her grandfather's ancient painting restoration studio and the place where she had spent the most time as a child. The room was still the same as before, with two large red solid wood tables that reached half a person's height in the middle, equipped with restoration tools such as brushes, hoof knives, and sheep's stomach towels. It hadn't been cleaned for some days, and a thin layer of dust had settled on the tables. Thinking of her grandfather who had passed away from stomach cancer, Su Huan's nose turned sour, and her eyes moistened. 'Is this where you learned your craft as a child?' Shen Hui's voice came from behind her. Su Huan nodded, 'Yes.' Shen Hui walked over to her side, reached out and touched the table, 'I admire you. When I was a child, my grandfather also wanted to pass on his craft to me, but I gave up after less than a month. I just couldn't sit still, and it was so boring. The craft of restoring cultural relics is too demanding, not something just anyone can do.' His grandfather was also a restorer of ancient paintings and calligraphy, quite famous in the industry. Su Huan smiled, 'Back then, my grandfather wanted to pass it on to my mother, but she couldn't settle her mind either. But it has to be passed down, otherwise, it will be lost.' 'Yes, there's actually a high threshold for this profession. You need to be calm, have a spirit, good perception, patience, strong resilience, and be able to endure hardship.' 'Right, especially you can't be impatient.'
When unveiling a painting, you have to do it bit by bit, sometimes it takes half a month. If you get impatient, the painting will be damaged. Shen Hua glanced at Su Huan with tender eyes, 'Your childhood must have been very tough, right?' Su Huan smiled faintly, 'What childhood? While other kids were playing outside, I was constantly copying ancient paintings.' 'That's so sad.' Su Huan chuckled, 'A bit.' As they talked, Sister Liu quietly came in with a rag, wiping here and there, glaring at Shen Hua's back with hostility. Shen Hua leaned closer to Su Huan, his hand slowly reaching towards hers, wanting to hold it. In the nick of time, Sister Liu snatched a broom from behind the door, rushed behind Shen Hua, and forcefully swept near his feet, shouting loudly, 'Doctor Shen, move aside! A mouse just ran by!' Shen Hua quickly moved to the side. Su Huan looked at Sister Liu in confusion. This house was specially made by her grandfather, with excellent sealing, not even cockroaches could get in, let alone mice. Soon, she understood, it must have been something Gu Beixian had instructed Sister Liu before he left. She had not realized his possessiveness was so strong before; he didn't even allow her to talk to Shen Hua for a few words. By evening, everyone had dinner. After washing up, Su Huan lay in bed reading. Sister Liu came running in with her phone, saying, 'Young Madam, Mr. Gu is on the phone, he has urgent matters to discuss with you.' Su Huan took the phone and asked, 'What's wrong?' Gu Beixian's deep magnetic voice came through the phone, 'Grandma is sick and hospitalized, she keeps talking about wanting to see you. I've already notified the bodyguards, you should come back quickly.'
Upon hearing this, Su Huan hurriedly picked up her clothes and started to put them on. The last time she saw her grandmother, she looked very weak. When people get old, even a simple cold or fever can be dangerous. After getting dressed and quickly packing her things, Su Huan went out. Shen Hui was standing in the yard smoking. Su Huan said to him, 'I have to go back, Grandma Gu is in the hospital.' Shen Hui extinguished his cigarette butt and said, 'Okay, I'll go with you.'
More than three hours later, the group arrived in the city center. After parting ways with Shen Hui, Su Huan, along with Sister Liu and the bodyguard, arrived at the hospital. Grandma was staying in the VIP ward on the top floor. After getting off the elevator and turning a corner, Su Huan immediately saw Gu Beixian standing by the window smoking. He was tall and handsome, with an outstanding temperament and an air of nobility that made him stand out in a crowd.
Just as Su Huan was about to call out to him, she suddenly heard a crisp 'Beixian brother.' Then, a figure rushed out from the fire escape, hurriedly embraced Gu Beixian's waist, and pressed her face against his back, affectionately saying, 'I heard that grandma is sick, so I came to see her.' The woman was very beautiful, with a delicate little face that looked pampered and spoiled. It was Chu Suosuo.
Su Huan's heart 'thudded' against her ribs, causing her to ache and twitch. Her feet were nailed to the spot, her legs felt as heavy as lead, and she couldn't take another step. Sister Liu hurriedly called out, 'President Gu, the young mistress is back.' Gu Beixian, holding Chu Suosuo's hand, moved it away from his waist and strode towards Su Huan, saying indifferently, 'Why didn't you call when you arrived? I would have come downstairs to pick you up.'
Su Huan couldn't speak, she glanced at him coolly and indifferently, then moved her heavy legs towards her grandmother's ward. She entered the room. The old lady was sitting on the hospital bed drinking bird's nest soup. Seeing Su Huan, her cloudy eyes lit up, 'Huan'er, it's been a while since I've seen you. Bei Xian said you were on a business trip?' This must be the excuse Gu Bei Xian found for her. Su Huan responded, restraining her emotions, she put her injured hand behind her back and said with a smile, 'Grandma, how are you feeling?' The old lady sighed, 'I'm getting old, my body is like paper, it catches a cold with a breeze. Come, sit down quickly, let grandma have a good look at you.' Su Huan bent down to sit beside her bed. The old lady saw that her hand was always behind her back and curiously reached to pull it, 'Why do you keep your hand hidden behind your back?' 'It's nothing.' Su Huan instinctively shrank back, but was still pulled out by her. Seeing Su Huan's left hand with two fingers in a splint, all four nails were purple-black. The old lady gasped, heartbroken, 'Tell grandma quickly, how did you get your hand like this?' Su Huan calmly said, 'A few days ago, I provoked a tomb raider, he was caught and thrown into jail, and his sister came to seek revenge.' The old lady trembled with anger, 'What kind of tomb raider is so bold, daring to touch someone from our Gu family, does he not want to live? Tell me carefully what exactly happened?' Su Huan recounted the cause and effect of the incident to her in detail. After listening, the old lady's eyes moved slightly, lost in thought. After a long time, she spoke, 'On the day of the incident, Bei Xian was also there. They don't know you, but they can definitely find out about Bei Xian. A small tomb raider, where does his sister get such audacity to seek revenge on you?' She suddenly looked up at the door, hinting ambiguously, 'Most likely she was instigated by someone, used as a pawn.' Su Huan's heart skipped a beat, following the old lady's gaze to the door, where Chu Suosuo was standing.
