Reborn in Flames
“He died a long time ago; a dead man cannot harm anyone. Someone else broke Chu Suosuo's fingers. As for who that person is and why they want to take revenge on her, I really don't know.” Su Huan's voice was very calm, yet a layer of tears slowly formed on her lower eyelashes.
Gu Beixian looked down at the grave.
It was an ordinary grave, so plain it couldn't be more so, looking rather old. A bunch of withered wildflowers lay in front of it, and there was burned paper ash on the ground.
The grave was extremely simple, just piled up with yellow earth, without even a headstone. It was impossible to tell who it belonged to.
Gu Beixian faintly curled his lips. He had asked her before who A Yao was, and she avoided answering.
After he pulled up A Yao's back view from the surveillance, she casually picked a small grave to fob him off.
What she didn't know was that when she called out "Brother A Yao" for the first time in her dream, he had already sent people to this small mountain village to secretly investigate A Yao.
The entire village, all ninety-eight households, regardless of gender, age or youth, all said unanimously that there was no one named A Yao in the village, so the person buried in this grave could not possibly be A Yao.
She had always been sincere and earnest, yet now she had lied to protect her Brother A Yao.
Gu Beixian felt very uncomfortable. A sense of anger was rising, but just as he was about to speak and expose her lie, he saw that her eyes were covered with a layer of tears at some unknown time, staring at the grave wetly, her expression sorrowful.
The wild wind blew, and her thin figure swayed as if about to fall, arousing his pity.
Suddenly, his protective desire was stirred.
His heart softened, and his anger subsided. He raised his hand to embrace her and said gently, “Alright, I won't pursue it anymore. Don't cry.”
Su Huan's face was pressed against his collar, silently shedding tears that quickly soaked a small patch there, her slender shoulders trembling slightly. Gu Beixian stroked her thin back, his tone a mix of chiding and indulgence as he said, 'Next time you come out, let me know in advance, okay?' Su Huan murmured a soft 'yes'. Suddenly, a 'gurgle gurgle' sound came from nowhere, particularly clear in the quiet wilderness. Gu Beixian smiled very lightly, only now feeling the pangs of hunger. Su Huan slowly reacted, wiping her eyes with her hand, then stepped out of his embrace and looked up at him, 'Is it your stomach growling? Are you hungry?' 'Yes, I haven't had a bite to eat since noon yesterday, how could I not be hungry?' His slightly raised tone carried a hint of grievance. 'Why didn't you eat?' 'You were missing, I was only focused on leading people to search for you everywhere, how could I have the mood to eat?' Su Huan couldn't help feeling a bit sad. His behavior could easily give her the illusion that he cared about her, but the last time she thought so, he proposed breaking up with her in the name of Chu Suosuo. 'Let's go back and eat, Sister Liu should have prepared the meal by now,' Su Huan said softly. 'Okay.'
The two walked towards the village side by side. Upon arriving home, Shen Hui was setting up a table in the yard, while Sister Liu came out of the kitchen holding a bowl. Seeing Shen Hui, Gu Beixian reached out to hold Su Huan's hand. Su Huan tried to pull away but couldn't. Shen Hui's gaze fell on their intertwined hands, his eyes darkening slightly. Seeing Gu Beixian, Sister Liu said with a hint of fear, 'President Gu, my phone was out of battery yesterday, and I didn't receive your call.' Gu Beixian didn't mind and said, 'It's okay, let's eat.' Everyone took their seats. Gu Beixian picked up an egg and began to peel it, then placed it in front of Su Huan, 'Eat.' Su Huan handed it back to him, 'You're hungry, you eat first.' Shen Hui smiled faintly, 'You two cousins really have a good relationship.' Gu Beixian's gaze turned cold, his tone extremely indifferent, 'I am her...' 'Cousin, he's my distant cousin,' Su Huan interrupted Gu Beixian's words, saying with aGambling on anger, saying:“I am his poor relative from the countryside,I worked as a nanny in his house for three years before,Responsible for taking care of his clothing, food, and daily life。” Shen HuiQuite regretful,“You clearly have such excellent craftsmanship,But he went to be a nanny,What a pity。” Su HuanTake a gentle glance at Gu Beixian,Don't say it with deep meaning:“it's OK,His family has a relatively high salary。 betting anger, 'I'm his poor relative from the countryside. I worked as a nanny at his house for three years, taking care of his daily needs.' Shen Hui was quite regretful, 'It's such a pity that you have such good skills but chose to be a nanny.' Su Huan glanced at Gu Beixian with a meaningful look and said, 'It's okay, his family pays well.'
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt a hand suddenly on her thigh. Then, that hand pinched her leg under the table, a pinch that was a little ticklish, a little sensual, making her heart race. Su Huan's ears turned red, and she glanced sideways at Gu Beixian, signaling him to take his hand away. But his expression was perfectly serious, and he slowly sipped his porridge with a spoon, eating with extreme grace, showing no sign of his little tricks underneath. Su Huan reached out to grab the restless hand, trying to move it off her leg, but she couldn't budge it, and instead, he held it firmly. He interlocked his fingers with hers, his thumb gently brushing against the palm of her hand, making her palm sweat. With one hand injured and the other held by Gu Beixian, Su Huan couldn't eat. She could only sit there, motionless. Gu Beixian turned his head to look at her, his eyes smiling, and deliberately asked, 'Huanhuan, why aren't you eating?' The person who usually called her Su Huan now deliberately called her 'Huanhuan.' Su Huan glared at him with feigned annoyance. Gu Beixian just laughed, 'Not eating, are you waiting for your cousin to feed you?' He scooped up a spoonful of porridge with his own spoon, tested the temperature with his mouth, and brought it to Su Huan's lips, 'Come on, open your mouth, cousin will feed you.' His voice was three parts ambiguous, three parts enticing, and mostly teasing. Su Huan's face turned red in an instant. She pursed her lips, refusing to open them. Gu Beixian's smile deepened, 'Not satisfied with being fed with a spoon? Then how about cousin feeding you with his mouth?' Su Huan didn't expect him to take it even further, and with a look of disdain, she rolled her eyes at him and said, 'You've used that spoon, give me a clean one.'
While she opened her mouth, Gu Beixian stuffed the spoon directly into it, 'We used to share a spoon all the time, and you never minded. Today, just because there are outsiders, you do? That's not a good habit.' Su Huan was fed a spoonful of porridge, glaring at Gu Beixian slightly, chewing with gritted teeth. Shen Huai shrugged helplessly and said, 'Su Huan, your cousin really cares about you.' Gu Beixian squeezed Su Huan's hand under the table, smiling as he said, 'Of course, a cousin is meant to be well taken care of.' Sister Liu's face was almost buried in the bowl of porridge, thinking to herself that the rich really knew how to play games; they were clearly husband and wife but insisted on pretending to be cousins for the thrill of it. After finally finishing the meal, Sister Liu stood up to clear the dishes. Su Huan said to Gu Beixian politely and distantly, 'You must be very busy with work, you should go back after the meal.' Gu Beixian looked at her, his gaze tender, 'You come back with me. This place is desolate, nothing is convenient. Your cousin misses you so much after just one day.' Su Huan's ears went numb from his flirting, never expecting to shoot herself in the foot by moving stones. Pausing, she looked at her injured left hand and said, 'I won't be able to work for three months, there's no need to go back, I'll just recuperate here.' 'That's fine, then your cousin will come to find you tonight.' He deliberately emphasized the words 'tonight' and 'find you,' as if he was going to do something extraordinary when he came to find her that night. Su Huan quickly said, 'No need, this place is quite far from the city center, it takes several hours to drive, it will affect your rest.' Gu Beixian raised his hand and affectionately pinched the tip of her nose, 'You, why are you becoming more and more stubborn?'
Su Huan turned her head away, warning in a soft voice, 'Could you please refrain from touching me?' 'I am your cousin, isn't it quite normal for cousins to do such things?' He raised his hand to touch her cheek, his fingertips gently caressing her flushed lips, smiling somewhat dangerously. That refined and ascetic face was now playfully mischievous, feeling too enticing. Su Huan had been polite and respectful to him for three years; he was either depressed and irritable, refined and ascetic, or gentle as jade. Even during intimate moments, he maintained a sanctimonious demeanor. Where had she ever seen such a side of him? He was like a carefree and flirtatious young master, quite profligate. She was stirred up, her face flushed and her heart burning, quickly turning her body to avoid his touch. Shen Hui's face had already turned very ugly, and he could no longer stay, so he got up and left. Su Huan couldn't sit still either, she stood up and walked towards the room. Gu Beixian followed her into the bedroom. Gu Beixian came up from behind, turned her around, moved her injured hand aside with one hand, pinched her chin with the other, and leaned down to kiss her.
