Reborn in Flames

Chapter 1: Who is A Yao?

After an intense and passionate encounter, Su Huan was covered in fragrant sweat. Gu Beixian didn't go to take a shower like he usually did, but instead hugged her from behind, holding her very tightly, as if he wanted to press her into his body. Su Huan felt as if she was melting in his embrace, her heart inexplicably filled with surprise, nervousness, excitement, and a touch of sorrow. They had been married for three years, and this was the first time he had held her like this. She felt a sense of being deeply loved. Her heart pounded like a little deer, and she slowly turned around, hugging him tightly, her face breaking into a sweet and beautiful smile, as if she had embraced the whole world. They held each other for a long time. Gu Beixian let go of her, got dressed, and sat up. He took out a pack of cigarettes from the drawer, skillfully shook one out, lit it, and took a deep drag. The white smoke curled up, blurring the contours of his handsome and masculine face, making his expression indiscernible, and it was unclear what he was thinking. The cigarette in his fingers was almost burning his fingertips, yet he didn't notice. Su Huan coughed lightly, "Didn't you quit smoking a long time ago?" Gu Beixian extinguished the cigarette, his gaze deeply fixed on her eyes. After a few seconds of silence, he said, "Su Huan, let's separate." It was like thunder on a clear day! Su Huan was stunned, her burning heart cooled down, instantly turning to ice! Her face pale, she looked at him in a daze, her voice trembling slightly as she asked, "Did I do something wrong?" "No."

"Why do we have to separate?" "Suosuo is back, I'm sorry." Chu Suosuo, his ex-girlfriend. Su Huan's heart felt as if it was being cut with a knife. Three years, a full three years of living and sleeping together, supporting each other in difficult times, yet it was all no match for the return of that woman! He didn't love her, and that was her biggest mistake! Loss, frustration, and sorrow overwhelmed her. Su Huan bit her lip hard, her body stiffening. She trembled as she put on her clothes, about to get out of bed. Gu Beixian held her shoulder, asking softly, "Where are you going?" Su Huan struggled to hold back her tears, "To make breakfast." " You always made it before, let me do it today. Sleep a little longer," he said in a deep and gentle voice. Su Huan murmured an "Hmm," lay down, and pulled the blanket over her damp eyes. After he left, she got out of bed, ran into the bathroom, and couldn't hold back anymore, bursting into tears. Tears fell like broken beads, unable to stop. She never knew that loving someone could hurt so much, hurt until he felt like a piece of flesh gouged from her heart. She cried until she couldn't stand, leaning against the wall, shaking with sobs. After an unknown amount of time, Gu Beixian called her from downstairs to eat. Su Huan responded, splashed cold water on her face, washing her eyes over and over. But no matter how much she washed, her eyes remained red, as if filled with blood.

Going downstairs, Gu Beixian stood in the restaurant waiting for her. Dressed in a well-tailored high-end suit, with straight long legs beneath dark trousers, his whole demeanor was refined and noble, shining brilliantly just by standing there. Su Huan silently walked to the dining table and sat down. Gu Beixian leaned forward slightly, looking at her red eyes with an especially gentle gaze, "Cried?" Su Huan lifted her face and forced a smile at him, "I accidentally got facial cleanser in my eyes while washing my face, it'll be fine after a while." "Be careful next time, let's eat," Gu Beixian said, sitting down beside her and handing her the chopsticks. Su Huan reached out to take them, lowering her eyelids to look at his beautiful fingers resting on the chopsticks. The rich breakfast emitted an enticing aroma, yet neither of them touched their chopsticks. Never in her life had a meal been eaten with such sorrow. Half an hour later, the food remained untouched. Su Huan put down the chopsticks, stood up by holding the corner of the table, and said softly, "I'll go pack my luggage." Gu Beixian's hand holding the chopsticks tightened slightly, "No rush." Su Huan gave a bitter smile. In such a situation, wasn't it better to leave quickly? Did he want to wait to be kicked out? She turned and went upstairs, throwing her things into the suitcase one by one. After packing for a good while, she finally zipped it up with a click and carried it downstairs. Gu Beixian came up to meet her, reaching out to take the suitcase, "Let me."

"No need," Su Huan said, lifting her suitcase and walking out with her back straight. As she passed through the courtyard, looking at the familiar flowers and trees, she couldn't help feeling melancholic. Humans are not plants or trees; who can be without feelings? Three years had passed, and what was called growing affection over time turned out to be only her own business. She loved him so much, wholeheartedly, with both passion and familial love, but what use was that? Let go, just let go. The two walked to the gate, one after the other, and the car was already waiting outside. Gu Beixian handed over a check, "Thank you for your companionship these past three years." Su Huan stood stubbornly, unsure whether to accept it. Gu Beixian stuffed the check into her suitcase, "Take it, you'll need money for many things in the future." "Hmm." Su Huan responded dryly, lifting her head to greedily look at his handsome lips, straight nose, and beautiful eyes. Recalling how he covered her eyes with his own in bed, making the whole sky full of stars, her heart felt as if it was being twisted by a knife, the pain indescribable. She thought that there must be a day in this lifetime when she could finally stop loving him. Three years? Ten years? Perhaps it would take a lifetime. Falling in love with someone seems easy, but forgetting them is very, very hard.

Gu Beixian looked at her for a while, then suddenly pulled her into his arms. His face was calm, but his eyes were surging with waves. "In the future, it won't be easy for you to be alone. Call me if you have any difficulties." Tears welled up and she swallowed them. Su Huan said, "Okay." "I was in poor health and had a bad temper in the past two years, causing you to suffer." "It's alright." "Take good care of yourself." "You too." Su Huan slowly raised her hand, hugged him, holding on as if facing a life-and-death separation. Suddenly, she let go of him. She pushed him away, quickly wiped her face, grabbed her suitcase and turned to leave. After taking a few steps, she suddenly heard Gu Beixian ask, "Who is A Yao?" Her heart trembled slightly, and Su Huan's raised foot slowly landed. The long-buried past crashed down like a landslide. She was so sad that she couldn't speak. Hearing Gu Beixian say again, "He must be very important to you, right? I'm sorry for occupying you for three years. Wish you happiness."
